Dino's Cat is out!!

I completely agree Stovall's VF31 is a work of art I just can't wait for Yago's paints too tho!

These two addons have changed my Fsx experience forever, and I'm very gratefull to the developers and repainters!

Many thanks guys!

Its Diego Garcia I'm flying from, its UK soil but only used by our American brothers for the longest bombing missions in history and when I say only used for, I make it sound so easy lol and it's not as most of us here would know.. it's located here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Indian_Ocean_Territories!
Just go to United kingdom in select airport menu, type in "Di" and hit Enter select real world weather trust me its always nice and the Sun is huge lol!
Thats the answer to my previously posted question about fsx geography too thats where I am lol!

Paranormal things are happening with my afterburner..It shifts by itself..Now I got a perfect position, next time when i start FSX it moved out of wack , In the cfg file numbers remain unchanged, still the effects are changing position,or the fuselage is rubber made, god knows but it,s frustrating that makes me jump back into the F-16 wagon.

The reason the afterburner moves is because something in the FSX engine got changed/broken when compared to the FS9 engine in dealing with that type of effect. If I remember correctly, it gets worse or better depending on heading. AFAIK there isn't an effect work around. How Aerosoft's F-16, IRIS's F-20 and the default Hornet get around it is the afterburner is not an effect but part of the model.

Thanks, Peter, your elaborate advice worked perfectly. It is a pleasure to fly with the Iris HUD. There is one strange thing: in the original Iris F-14 it was collimated, but not when I use it in Dino’s plane. Dino, the adjustment knob in the cockpit does not solve the collimation problem. Firstly, as soon as you move your head even a little bit, the HUD is out of alignment again, and secondly, you have to know exactly where the horizon is at your altitude in order to be able to set the HUD correctly. And the horizon may be obscured by clouds or mountains. Especially during carrier landings you need a very precise HUD in order to be able to really rely on it. I noticed how much easier carrier landings were when I flew the Iris plane again. But having said that, using the Iris HUD with Dino’s Cat is a great step forward. Even if not collimated, the HUD looks much more realistic and it has an ‘angle of attack indexer’ near the flight path marker that makes it easier to hold the correct speed (it is much more precise than the AoA lights left of the HUD and shows the direction in which the speed is changing). I hope ultimately there will be a new, collimated HUD. The Iris one works very simple: it projects the image not on the HUD itself but on the outside landscape. The only drawback is that the symbology remains visible even if you move your head away from the HUD, but in a real plane you would seldom do that, if only because you are strapped in tightly so it is uncomfortable, and your helmet would quickly touch the canopy. So, this drawback of the Iris HUD is not really a problem. The Aerosoft F-16 HUD does not have this limitation, but its design seems much more complex to me.

Yes it is much more complex and it giving me a headache lol, I agree about the Iris HUD I just put up with the downsides to it as the benifits, as you say are much better information presentation wise!

At Simkid Aerosoft's F-16, IRIS's F-20 and the default Hornet have burners built into there models but only the f16's looks real especially when you get the mod to make it more orange, but the length is perfect for the Tomcat too, its a shame about that!

This are not gentle cosmetics of the default texture so it will be a slow progress. A texture wire frame would help me work a lot faster.I had the chance of taking photos of the Black Aces 116 myself ,back in 2005,and i,m using that as photo texture material.

yago9, I see 3 new paints, and hope they will be finished in proper time. Thanks for making them and letting forum visitors see them at this time.

Dougal95, ‘collimated’ means ‘stabilized’. In effect the symbology presented on the HUD stays in the correct position relative to the outside world when you move your head. So, if you start with the horizon line right in the ‘real’ horizon outside the plane and then move your head up, the horizon line stays on the outside horizon and hence seems to move up in the HUD. With, for example, the default F/A-18 HUD used in Dino’s Cat, you would, in this example, see the horizon line on the HUD moving up relative to the horizon outside. Try it. This means that you have to keep your head very still once you’ve captured the correct position of the HUD symbology, in order to use, for example, the flight path marker to indicate the place where you will hit the carrier deck during landings. And when resetting TrackIR, the HUD horizon line often is in the wrong place anyway. Especially when you are in clouds you have no way of knowing where the real horizon is, so you cannot assume the correct head position. And of course you are bound to make unconscious head movements in flight. I never flew a real aircraft equipped with a HUD but I flew many professional fighter simulators (F-16, F/A-18, JSF, Saab Gripen), and believe me, a collimated HUD is invaluable for landing on a carrier or, with the Swedish Gripen, landing on a precise spot of a country road used as an auxiliary runway. By the way, when making precision landings, for example on a carrier, you have to allow for the wheels being a few feet beneath your head position, so you will touch the deck a bit earlier than you might think. It seems that in the U.S. Navy, experiences LSO’s can see when a pilot uses the HUD flight path marker to aim for the deck instead of visually flying to the cables, since such a pilot will more often catch the second instead of the (optimal) third cable.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Yago9

IMHO the wire frame is at the top of my list when judging a paint kit and it being user friendly.

Yeah Yago, making the "cosmetic" changes can be done rather quickly, I see you are doing more than that now and that is where the time comes in and boy does it. Looking great! :ernae:

Miramar F-14D

May I please recommend that you great repaint artists include some schemes for Pacific Coast F-14D squadrons. Both VF-11 (Red Rippers) and VF-31 were assigned to NAS Miramar from 1992 to early 1997. We have a couple of VF-31 schemes (but we need an earlier one for the Carl Vincent). There is no VF-11 scheme yet. VF-11 was also assigned to the Vincent Air Group.

What we have now is wonderful work - but only applicable to NAS Oceana.

A picture is worth a couple dozen words…

The top two pics are the VRS Super Hornet in FS9, which has a “collimated” HUD. The bottom two are the FA-18C from FSX, which does not.

The other amazing thing about this collimation business is that the HUD symbols are “focused to infinity”, meaning it appears that the symbols are really out there painted on the sky, and not on the HUD glass. This is important because amount of time it takes to focus your eyes from outside to a gauge in the cockpit, is a half second or so, long enough to make a difference, especially during landing. With a collimated HUD, you can keep your eyes focused outside… This is a non-issue for us arm-chair pilots because everything, outside and inside, is painted on a glass monitor.

, I see you are doing more than that now ...

Not now,ALWAYS..When did I ever make superficial repaints on top of others Bob ? What are you implying by throwing in that extra word ? Are we going for masked jabs now ? Why?

Oh jeez yago quit starting pissing matches for no reason. Or do you just like whining about something all the time? I severely doubt that bob was jabbing you.

Get a life, man. Quit making this thread into attacks on others and keep it on topic..! My annoyed $0.02.

So..I just downloaded v.95 and man oh man is it nice! Dino, great work!!! I love the new shape of the nose and canopy. Its so accurate!!! :ernae:
