F7F Tigercat SOH Project

LOL Thanks guys ... yes to a simple, WIP, low poly, low-res, freeware, FS9 and FSX tested F7F-3. The reason for getting out an unfinished, temporary-in-every-way project is that we want to fly this aircraft in the RTW race. So today hopefully you shall have it too. It is truly an unfinished project with practically everything in it to be redone. But, it is still nice enough to truly enjoy. But, we'll let you decide that, soon.
Milton, how can you race without lights?? :salute:
Here's a quick and dirty setup for the shockwave lights - a WIP, of course. :jump:

[lights]
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing
light.0 = 4, 3.64, 0, 1.99, fx_vclight_red ,
light.1 = 3, -30.2, 0, -0.15, fx_shockwave_navwhi ,
light.2 = 3, 2.30, 25.2, 3.30, fx_shockwave_navgre ,
light.3 = 3, 2.30, -25.2, 3.30, fx_shockwave_navred ,
light.4 = 5, 1.1, -21.8, 1.5, fx_shockwave_landing_light_low

...and make sure this is added to the [vcockpit01]..

gauge22=shockwave_lights!SW Lights_gear, 1,1,1,1 //shockwave light

Wonderful aircraft Milton and Team. Climbs like a homesick angel! LOVE IT! The paints are fantastic
Ted

Works pretty well in FSX, a lot of the flight testing was done in FSX accel, including carrier qualifications on the (excellent) Michael Davies Essex class ships.

Cheers: T

LOL WH, thanks for your Team SOH contribution :wavey:
LOL. Thanks, Milton.

This was a first shot for me for a folding wing a/c. One more line to add to the panel.cfg [vcockpit01] section.

gauge23=shockwave_lights!SW Lights_foldwing, 1,1,1,1 //shockwave light

This should turn off the landing light when the wings are folded. Can't do much with the wing nav lights, but you only want those on when your racing.:wiggle:

There had been so many CFS Tigercat skins in the Library lately, I saw these and only glanced at them, assuming they too were only CFS skins.

Thanks.:salute:

Made a handpainted version of the default, still working on it though, needs details on the engine and a few other places and a few more decals put in place.

The VMP-254 skin (tail code WT) is nice, but I guess no one has noticed that the national insignia on the wings are reversed. Upper surface insignia should be displayed on the port wing, lower surface insignia on the starboard wing.

Thanks, easily corrected!:salute:

Found a good "Walkaround", so I'm adding more decals and details to the fuselage a little at a time. . .about the time I finish, the final model will be released and none of this will really matter, lol. . .fun though!

Looks great so far, Falcon! I'm curious, though... is the textures' resolution high enough to put some of the fine details (stencils, etc.) into the paint job without them being too blurred to show up well? I have some drawings that show stencil locations, but I didn't put them on, thinking that they would be unreadable...
This bird just gets nicer and nicer, doesn't it?
Merry Christmas! -Mike Z.

Actually Mike, I was so used to doing FSX textures and enlarging them to 4096x4096, that the size never occurred to me until I noticed that even a 2048x2048 (the original size of these textures) wasn't usable in FS9, lol. Having said that, I haven't added any of the smaller stencils yet, but I have a feeling they may, in fact, not hold to where they are readable. You'll know something is supposed to be there, but reading it might not be an option.

I have a fair amount of experience with making F4U Corsair skins for the Il2 sim. I put in all kinds of stencils and decals that were readable in 2048x2048, but when resized to 1024x1024 they became muddled and illegible, so I know what that's like. One inch tall lettering on a real stencil becomes a faint smudge in these sims.

It's Christmas morniing, and my (adult) kids are sleeping in. The wife is in the kitchen getting things ready for the afternoon feast, so finally I have a chance to do some flying.

Took up the F7F for a leisurely flight to Boeing field. Set the ADF to 281.0, took off on runway 34 and headed towards Seattle. Crusing at 3,000 ft the ADF picked up Boeing Field and came in for a nice landing despite the low clouds and rain. Very enjoable flight.

Thanks again Milton and the SOH Team for a great WIP. :ernae:

Clarity, that's about the only thing I don't like about doing repaints for FS9. There's just no other way I've found to resolve it. I wish there was though!!
