F7F Tigercat SOH Project

Okay, here is a model replacement with the tank mapped and a new tank.bmp template.

I have also updated the paint kit above to add the new tank.bmp.

EDIT: I am also replacing the original Tanker download zip above to include these updates.

EDIT2: I forgot to mention that I had trouble with the cylindrical tank mapping and could not get it resolved after an hour so you will have a streak of untextured area down the centerline bottom of the tank.

Also, I have not included the gauges to open the 4 doors on the tank as that is part of the panel that is unavailable. They are gauge controlled.

Its a quicky, i threw it together so i didnt have to just see black

Now that is looking awesome my friend. :applause:

Milton super job, launched it off HMS Victorious catapult a few times in FSX she behaves well, thanks.

Thanks that tank texture worked out no problems at all :wiggle: Got a question tho any ideas on where the texture would be for those little white areas around im guessing the air intakes on the inboard and outboard areas on the wings?? theyre like little white rectangle you can see them in the pics.

if anyone is interested in the textures you can PM me your email and ill send them :ernae:

That looks very cool right there ... yup! :applause:

I do believe that issue is a mapping anomaly where those bottom polys got picked up with the top mapping. Send me those textures if you will and I will verify that's the issue.

Mr. Shupe:

Thru this together last night and today - since I'm new at this painting stuff, it isn't anything great but a little better than all Black!! lol

THANK YOU to you and your crew for a very fine aircraft.. :salute:

Bill

Thanks Bill ... just a work in process but I think it will turn out well eventually.

Tankerguy et al, yes, the mapping was for the F7F-1 with the smaller round tail and so the vertical stabilizer cuts into the ailerons on the map since the F7F-3 has a taller tail. Since this was just a temporary mapping so I could throw some paint on it for the FSX testers, it will have to do until later.

Hey Jeremy!
I like it a lot.It has that "this tanker has been working Overtime!" look.Job well done.:salute:
This will definitely hold me over tell the finished product is released. From the models to the flight dynamics to the textures,so much great talent at the SOH!
Thank you again.

Very nice paint you've done Bill :applause:

Sent you a pm.

Pete.

Greetings to all-
I really was paying attention when Milton said that he doubted anyone would "waste the efforts on a temporary paint scheme", but I thought it would be good practice and educational to work with it anyway... Besides, it does look and fly very sweet... I'm looking forward to the finished product as well- I'm sure it will be great!
I found a livery that I was intrigued with, for a F7F-3 based at MCAS Cherry Point in 1949... Here's what I have so far, still lacking insignia and stencils...
Many thanks, Milton, for letting everyone have a little taste of what's coming...

Hey Bill, that looks alot like my painting efforts too ... we all have to start somewhere, and the cool thing is that it is your scheme and your work. Keep after it my friend. :jump:

Thanks Milton, I appreciate the comment...

The "finished" project I'll be more fussier!!!!!!!!!! lol

That looks great Mike ... love the colors and scheme. :applause:

You chose a scheme that allowed the mapping deficiencies to be hidden. :)

I got the texture and it looks good except for the tank is still grey. What did I do wrong? How can I get it fixed? I'm only good for just dropping texture into the folder. I let the pro's do all the painting. This paint will work well for this bird. I got the fire-retardant placed well, so it looks like it come out in the correct location.

Talk soon,

Thanks, Milton-
Speaking of colors, I wasn't sure about the blue... The color you see is 'Glossy Sea Blue' from the swatches at Simmers' Paint Shop, which I had understood to be the correct blue for these- but it looks more grayish, and definitely not as dark blue, as most USN textures- or photos and videos, for that matter- than anything I've found. Can anyone enlighten me on this?

I'm pretty sure you need to grab the latest attachment (F7F-tk.zip posted by Milton on the last page). You put the replacement MDL file contained in that zip into the model folder. That's what I did and the tank is red for me. :)

Mike, are you sharing that paint? I'd love to fly it :wiggle:

Hi there-
Sure, I'll be happy to share the skins! It's OK with Milton, as well... Be advised, though... these will only work with the current 'work in process' model!
Who knows- maybe if enough people find out just how sweet this bird is, it will inspire someone to take a shot at making a VC for it- something way out of my league!
