Fairey Firefly

well depends on what you want to do with it ... i thought it needed a lot of work but i was planning on updateing it.

And you'd have to ask bazzar, its still his plane and his source files :engel016:

Just trying to get Warhorse47 a propeller for a FS2002 plane which has already been heavily modified from its original version to fly in FS2004...:kilroy:

Your previous post stated that you didn't wan't to go buy FSDS and learn it again but this last seems to suggest that you might...

Perhaps Warhorse47 could go through the red tape since it is his wish to have a Firefly and you could share the source files with me as a temporary solution; I'll make a prop for the plane and you can update the VC eventually...:kilroy:

I will return the source files + a brand new propeller when done...

I'm a prop man myself and no good whatsoever at VCs...:icon_lol:

It is more likely a model problem and no amount of texture changing will fix it some ex 2002 will work ok but very few

Considering it is A FS2002 aircraft, and FS2002 was released pretty much the same time as CFS2, perhaps you can find a CFS2 prop somewhere that looks the part, rename it, and drop it into the texture file?

Well, this is what I know...

The AH Firefly is for FS 2002 and the textures have 3 prop files, but the prop does not show in FS9 with the standard mk5.mdl model.

The 3 prop files are prop3.bmp, prop.bmp and prop_L.bmp. And I have a variety of other prop files that are identical and can possibly be used to replace them, but I don't think that is the issue.

The aircraft comes with several other *.mdl files. The firetest.mdl does enable the prop to display, but it appearently is a test mdl as there are problems with the other parts of the aircraft.

There is no text file that gives any clue as to the purpose of any of the other model files, or if one works better than the other.

So... back to the drawing board.

If we can ever find Baz, maybe he can shed some light and possibly a solution.

Thanks :icon29:

actually the firefly was not Baz's first
it was the DH Hornet, i worked on both
with others
that was a while and many moons ago
but it was a great one
and still is but time goes on

Sure. I'll go through the red tape. Just tell me where to start. :isadizzy: LOL. Sounds like we still need to find Baz and get his permission.

And just in case somebody asks the obvious question, the prop should look something like this.... :ernae: Just kidding. Thought everyone would like a little inspiration.

Very nice pics Warhorse !

I can see why you want to fly that beauty.

I've got the prop almost ready; its an original Jap three bladed prop which I've modified to four from my CFS2 days which I kept for such a special occasion.

It seems fitting that such a prop would end up on a british plane from a FS2002 Sim to fly in a FS2004 Sim... :kilroy:

I'll fine tune the setup when I have the source files to match it to ...

Cheers,

Interesting post,
indeed the fairy firefly is a very desirable project to build, in fact i have all of the source files still to this day, and a hawker Hurricane as well
in fsds, i would have to up grade it to fsds v3.5 but after the Claude's and rata if you want i can finish her off for ya.

As for the record, Barry/Bazz was in simtech before he started Ah. He was the one who initiated the project Fairy Fire fly, it started out with Barry and My self but it left with Barry.
Any ways if you would like I can finish it off or if you guys have the source files you can , either way its a fine addon as it stands now, but we could make her alot better with some of this and that. Just let me know and i shall do.
hehe.

Bonjour Tom,

That would be awfully nice of you and being one of the original initiator of this project would certainly give it even more interest when completed.

I say "GO FOR IT..."

Ooups... :kilroy:

Getting excited over this one...:icon_lol:

I'll even throw in the propeller and the :icon29: to help you along, if need be !

Did you say something about a Hurricane... ? :kilroy:

ok I will do it. Actually its a pretty good addon to build, it has a good history and I know where to get a ton of new material on it includeing a real picture photo of the panel for the 2d panel, it has all of the gauges in it so I could use those to reface some good ones i have here. So i can make her as perfect as possible, so it will be started after i finish the Claude project, and Rata just to be clear.

Funny how life works, this post made me think of the old days so i went to the basement and hauled up my old simtech server, its one of those server fatty boxes weighs like 100 pounds..lol luckily it has wheels on it.
I started her up and low and behold the origional simtech web site is there still functioning. Thart brought back memories. I found an ftp folder that I setup for the team, In Barries folder there is like 4 projects we worked on that ended up going with him, I have all the source for those as well. Interesting.

hehehe

CFS2/FS2002/FS2004 Fairey Firefly NF MK1. This British Royal Navy fighter/bomber/night fighter aircraft first saw combat in 1944 against the German battleship Tirpitz. It was used mainly in the Pacific and was the first British aircraft to fly over Tokyo. Several Firefly squadrons saw active service in the Korean War. These included 827 Squadron with MK1s from HMS Triumph during 1951. Original .mdl by Ted Simko. Remade for CFS2/FS2002/2004 with new .mdl, .air, .dp and textures by A.F. Scrub.

[SIZE=-1]It does run in fs2004 fine and I think theres atleast 1 UKMIL repaint done for it

Wow. I never expected such enthusiasm on my post.

As for the AH Firefly I started with, I aliased the sounds with some by Lawdog. I raised the viewpoint a tad and added a radio panel and compass from my AH/JF Mosquito. I also added nav lights, but still need to work on the vclight. Sounds like Crashwoody may have an advantage on updating the panels and gauges. Good show.:medals:

Ah the dear old Firefly.

She just won't go away will she?...:engel016:

The model is now something like 7 years old and frankly,is just not worth
the time spending on it to bring it anywhere near up to date. Better, really, to start a new one.

We don't work with FSDS any more, in fact I've forgotten more than I learned I think and none of the other guys and gals want to know!

I am more than happy for anybody wanting to use the original source files for whatever purpose, providing they understand that I no longer have the time to spend with the project.

I remember doing a conversion into Max7 (maybe it was G-Max - can't remember now) and making a start but it didn't get too far beyond the basic geometry being imported and smoothed up.

If there is a genuine request to attempt a resurrection, I will take the time to locate all the materials I have. There's a fair bit of reference kicking about on a CD somewhere and I do remember having a fix for the undercart, prop and so on.

I still love the aeroplane and you never know, maybe I'll do an FSX version one day...

On the subject of the Hornet, that was an early SOH forum project and I remember a little brass placard in the "cockpit"to that effect!

ANother worthy FS subject worth making for FS9 and FSX...now where are those source files...:engel016:

You know... Ol Barry is right, its been a long time and frankly I can build a all new one in 3d max for you guys in less time then it would take to work out all the kinks on an older model.
I dont mind doing it for you guys and it will be as good as anything out there pay ware or freeware. All bells and whistle in and super pretty as well. All the time I was gone from flight sim i worked for Sony Games/entertainment and they taught me a heck of alot about stuff so now its just fun to do this stuff. Any ways Its good to see there is still interest in this project, Im sure it will come back in one form or another.
