Fairey Firefly

Well, I can! :icon_lol:This must be taking a lot of time. That's looking absolutely stunning Fnerg!

Cees

Thank you Cees, yes, a labor of love. I think I'm hooked. I find myself rushing home to get back to it. So I must be. I want it to be just right, and I'm a tinkerer by nature, and that's both a blessing and a curse!:icon_lol:

Hi Doug,

The flaps on a firefly slide back and down so that the leading edge of the flap is close to the trailing edge of the wing. The big stickie out housing on the trailing edge of the wing holds the actuating jack.

Best wishes
Steve P

Hi all, I finally got the Firefly into the sim for a look - wow:jump:....here's some screen shots.

I noticed I had the model a complete 180 backwards, so I turned it around in Gmax. Gotta fly straight. I also have to adjust my pivot points for the ailerons and elevators lol . Back to it. Cheers.

Thanks, Fnerg. Appreciate the update. Looking good. :ernae:

Say... the Reno Air Races are next week, and we're going to be in the area... and there is always the possiblity that the Firefly might be on display as it was a couple years ago.:173go1:

If you need a photo of some part of the plane, send me a PM. Might get lucky, who knows. :mixedsmi:

Worth a try, I'd say. If I know in advance, I'll give it a shot if the Firefly is there and if I can get close enought. :jump:

Firefly

Long silence on progress of this new model, I hope all is well. Keenly looking forward to flying the Firefly Mk6 in FS9.

Thanks for asking Hobby. I've been working away constantly between work and sleep. I must be a Gmax addict.:isadizzy: Anyway, the challenge of late has been the animation. I animated the landing gear 3 times! Gmax is so in depth that things seem to change on you at the click of an unrelated action, I always have to be aware of what I'm doing. And saving of course. Recently I had the landing gear perfect, discovered the model was off center, and the fuselage was to short. After the adjustments I lost all my pivot points and had to redo the gear ...again...grrr. But today i'm pleased to say that I am back on track and pushing forward. I've exported the model into the sim already but, she's just a baby still, not ready for the outside world yet. lol. So here are some shots from today. I just built the props this afternoon after reading and following a great prop twist tutorial.

I must publicly thank Milton again for his help. He's been very gracious in sharing his knowledge.

No idea what's involved, so no idea of how stunning an achievement this is.
But I'd say you're doing alright...:d
Thanks for sharing the progress.

Firefly Mk 6 Progress

Thanks for the update on progress with the Mk6 Firefly.

I congratulate you on your attention to detail and skill in building the GMax aircraft. I tried one of the acft building programs some years ago but stopped when I found that I could not make a wheel satisfactorily - but I did learn that making a complete acft for FS was not as simple as assembling an Airfix kit!!!

Looking forward to my first carrier landing in your Firefly.

Firefly Mk 6 Rear cockpit glazing

I am sure that you have the above matter in hand and that you have recently been concentrating on undercarriage animation plus, as detailed above.

However, the rear cockpit glazing does continue over the top of the rear fuselage.

Still some fine shaping to do in that area before I cut in the windows overhead. That way I can use the cut-out's as window panes and the canopy will have the correct curve over the fuselage.

Doug--

This is my first day back home from our trip to Nevada and the Reno Air Races. Attached are some shots of the Firefly on static display. I couldn't get any details on the flaps, unfortunately. Hopefully, these might be of value.

And, I also found the website for the aircaft if you're interested.
