Fairey Firefly

Ok I've never built a plane in Gmax, but this appears to be a start. :wiggle:

And this seems to be a continuation. I'm not completely sure I know what I'm doing. I imagine I'll be PMing some of you in the days, months ahead. This is fun, and it's starting to look more like a Firefly all the time which is exciting.

Crash, by all means please do us a Firefly with your expertise, mine is just an experiment that may prove to be alright in the end. I look forward to your progress shots.

Cheers,

You know... Ol Barry is right, its been a long time and frankly I can build a all new one in 3d max for you guys in less time then it would take to work out all the kinks on an older model.
I dont mind doing it for you guys and it will be as good as anything out there pay ware or freeware. All bells and whistle in and super pretty as well. All the time I was gone from flight sim i worked for Sony Games/entertainment and they taught me a heck of alot about stuff so now its just fun to do this stuff. Any ways Its good to see there is still interest in this project, Im sure it will come back in one form or another.

Knowing you have other projects in the work, your offer is very gracious. :applause:

I'd go ahead since Barry is not sure he can find that certain CD with the fixes.

I think the a good Firefly for FS9 is well overdue. :ernae:

PS: How's the little one?

looking great! You are doing awesome! keep trying and dont give up and you will make this into a great little model.
Tip, try to stear away from 16 point fusies, go for 32 or 64 every time then you wont get those funkly weird flat anomolies that are soooo hard to paint out. even with smoothening they are hell to paint over.

Good work, giver pal! :ernae:

Progress shot. The fuselage is coming together nice, and just today I discovered the taper modifier to shape the wings. Lots of time spent trial and error. Great fun though. I spent some time at the Canadian Warplane Heritage museum photographing their Mark 5 for reference shots. I've got lots to work from now.

Gmax Firefly update

Hey guys I thought I would give you an update on my progress. Been working at it steady, a few hours a day.

Your progress so far looks awesome! Thanks for keeping us informed..Fnerg!

Why yes I do, thanks for asking.
In the past couple of weeks I've been learning about lofting and how I can use this technique. I created the landing gear main strut using that as well as the guns, and prop spinner. Then, it came time to animate so with the help of Milton and some online tutorials, and trial and error of course, I made the landing gear assembly and started on animating the flaps.
With only 1 Youtube video showing the extend and retract of the Fairey-Youngmann flaps, I hope I've animated this correctly. You guys are welcome to let me know.
I just hope in the end there are no export issues. So here are a few shots of my most recent progress.

Thats looking like a mighty fine looking Firefly, can't wait.:applause:
