Fairey Firefly

Thanks alot WH. Never seen the inside of the nose section before.
Never?? Well, darn. We can fix that.

Here are a few shots from 2005 that I never posted.

And you are welcome. Glad I can contribute to your work. :ernae:

Hope these are of some help :mixedsmi:.

Thanks RL. I live about 25 min West of Hamilton. This Firefly is my main reference. Over the past few weeks I've gone and shot 183 photos of the entire plane. One time I had to get permission to crawl under it and lay on my back. lol Amazing how you can explore the aircraft there face to face without any barriers or security. A truly marvelous place. Thanks for the additional shots.

That plane is shaping up beautifully! For a first attempt at modeling, it is clear that you are getting quite the grasp on Gmax and the art of poly pushing. Looking forward to the finished project.

Thanks for asking Hobby. I've been pushing and pulling alot of little blue dots lately trying to get the shapes and curves accurate. Just the other day I cut in the back windows on the fuselage, and now I'm just cleaning up the model before I go into animating the wingfold. Pulling out dents, getting rid of excess lines, basic fine tuning. I've just started reading about how to map the model for painting. That'll be fun, and I'll try and make it as repaint-friendly as I can. I'm exporting into the sim as I go, and it's really great to see her in the virtual skies.

I could use some help with the flight dynamics and cfg creation if anyone had some time and would like to assist.

Like Cees, I allways come over to this thread to take a peek! I'm awed by your skill Fnerg. Incredible that this is your first!!

Take your time, but I cannot wait to take your creation up in the virtual skies!! :jump:

Take care!

Firefly Mk 6 Acft cfg

Now the real problem is getting hold of really accurate data on wing areas and weights etc.

Several of my attempts since 1995 have been thwarted because I just could not get hold of the correct data and/or reasonably accurate three view drawings from which areas and positioning of wings etc relative to a reference line could be determined.

One might be able to buy an Airfix Mk6 Firefly (1/72) and use that to determine wing and tailplane etc positions but one might not if that model has beeen deleted from the sales catalogue.

On the other hand if you can find an FS piston engined aircraft of the same vintage and approximate size you might be able to use that acft cfg file as a guide.

Despite any such problems please don't give up, I am sure that lots of FS pilots are waiting to fly your Firefly MK6.

I have a Fairey Firefly book. What information do you need?

Firefly Mk6 data

For Fnerg:

Can you please let me have the following data?

a) Diameter of propeller

b) Areas of ailerons, elevator, rudder, tailplane, fin and elevators.

When I have those I shall try to produce an FS9 acft cfg which will then have to be fine tuned.

Thanks for the offer Hobby. When I have the model a little further along, I will contact you. I appreciate your interest.

Firefly Mk6

For Fnerg
Went to London (UK) today and bought Warpaint No.28 Fairey Firefly which gave me most of the information I needed. I have spent some time this evening modifying my initial acft cfg so i look forward to hearing from you.

Bit stuck for a good Griffon sound file!

Nice find! I plan on making a sound pack specifically for my Firefly, because I too can't find one that sounds correct. Lots of Youtube footage to go from. I also am planning a day at the Warplane Heritage Museum to record their Firefly before they put her away for the winter. Oh ya.....
