Flaps causing overstress crash on Razbam Banshees

Not bad at all for someone who should be falling-down tired. Much appreciated, believe me.

I've added the GPS from the Lear, only because it came from a jet. I normally use the 172's GPS for prop planes. I can get the Banshee's beacon (located on the fuselage tail, not the top of the vert stab) to work if I hit my "O" key - it is assigned to the "strobe light" function. Looking forward with great interest to what transpires. Again, many thanks.

I would like to thank you for all this, you guys really rock.We had this issue reported the same day we released it, and we posted a fix on our forums (no defunct) and sent the fixed material to the distributors, I wonder if you bought it directly from us, which means our files are still messed up , also, it seems this is a FS9 issue since no reports from the FSX crowd.I´ve been literally killing myself looking for the fix we had to no avail, OBIO, please, once you find the fix and else, post it at our forums, if it´s a set of files, send them to me, i will put them at the type´s subforums.
I´m very sorry for this, there is no excuse for my lack of response, please accept my apologies.

Best regards

No need to apologize at all. As I said earlier, the level of support and service RAZBAM is known for was never in question. I knew that if given time, you folks would find the problem and fix it. I thought it would be nice to free your team from having to work on the Banshee so you could concentrate on new products. You guys have been good to us over the years, figured it was time to return the favor.

I have the air files for the -2, -3, and -4 variants fixed and can send them to ya or upload them at your site. I am currently working on the panel config, effects and lights....getting them updating and fully functional. I can either upload the air file fixes now and the rest of the tweaks when I get them done, or wait until I get the whole shebang done and upload a comprehensive patch upload. Your call.

Glad to be of service Tim! When I saw the G limits in the the air file, it made sense that G limits and stress crashes would be related.

I am so appreciative of the efforts that Ron and OBIO and the SOH hive mind have made to solve this little problem. At the risk of really dating myself, You guys are the Bomb! Thanks again to all of you.

andersel,

You are more than welcome....actually, we all owe you a thank you for being the squeaky wheel in the process. Without your comments about the flap crashes, without your PM to me...I would never have known the problem existed. I usually have my "stress causes damage" option shut off in my sim since I do so much crazy, hi-g flying...and with that turned off, I never experienced any issue with the flaps. Thanks to you bringing this issue to light and making it known at this time, the problem has been hunted down, fixed and all who own the Razbam Banshee packages will gain more enjoyment out of the packages. YOU ARE THE MAN!

Ron (Razbam)

Send me a PM with an e-mail address where I can send the fixed air files for the -2, -3, and -4 Banshees. It's a small zip....15K I think. That will get the fix into your hands so you can post it on your forum for people to get quickly.

Once I get the lights and panels tweaked and fleshed out a bit more, I will send you those files to add to the site for people to grab.

OBIO

Okay fellas....here's what I am doing. The F2H-2n originally has its panel aliased to the F2H-2, the F2H-2P and the F2H-3 have their panels aliased to the F2H-4. I am giving those three planes their own panel set ups....copying the F2H-2 and F2H-4 panel bmps and config files into the planes that use them via aliasing. This way, I can adjust the panel set ups to exactly fit each of the variants. Will take longer, but the end results will be better. Once done and I have the package ready for distribution, there will be some "copy and paste" work that will have to be done on your end before using the individualized panel config files. I will write up an easy to understand How To for the package.

I am incorporating some new effects into the Banshees and tossing in gauges to control those effects. You will have to have other planes installed to have the effects...if you have the IRIS freeware jets installed, you are set. Also, will be including aircraft.cfg files for those who have the Shockwave 3D lights package...and for those who don't have the package, there will be aircraft.cfg files using stock lights.

Question: Would the wingtip tanks prevent the Banshee from having wing vortices when pulling 2G or higher maneuvers? I have the F2H-2 set up with wingtip vortices when pulling 2Gs or more...but not sure if that is accurate or not. Looks nice....I will keep it on my planes, but not sure how well they will be received by those who want more accuracy and realism in their "cartoon" planes.

I usually don't pay attention to the 2D panel, since I don't use the 2D view when I fly....but I am being mindful of those who do and am making corrections on the 2D panels for ya'll. The really tall 2D panel...the IRF panel I guess it's called....I will fix the reversed RPM gauges, but won't do anything about the fact that when you have it pulled up you can't see where you are going.

Well...back to work for a while. Then to bed. Then get up and fix my sister-in-law's driver side power window and begin tearing my snow blower apart so I can lube it up, replace a few belts and get it ready for this winter's snow fall. The NOAA people have predicted a colder and wetter winter for the northern part of Ohio....and guess where I live! Yep, right in the middle of all that colder and wetter. I bought the snow blower at a garage sale this summer so I could use it on the 400 foot uphill driveway at our old house....it will handle up to 2 feet of snow and will clear a 2 foot wide path per pass....now that I have a 50 foot, level concrete driveway....it won't take much work at all to clear the driveway with this monster!

Great work OBIO!! Looking forward to the finished files. All work on the Banshees is on hold pending the results of your efforts.

My birth and adolescence were in SE Michigan, but during my career I got smart and married a Southern girl, post-retirement I am living here in SE GA on the coast and thinking about you lubing up the snow blower. Sorry, but better you than me!:jump:

I'd rather face cold weather and deep snow than hurricanes and hissacanes and themacanes and such.

I have just gone through the four variants, making notes on what needs done on each...the hardest thing on the list will be repositioning the VC gauges...only the F2H-2 had the VC gauges lined up with the underlying VC Panel texture sheet.

One thing that I did run into was on the F2H-3. That variant has models without the wing tip tanks....and adding secondary lights to the plane is problematic. On the -3 with the wingtip tanks, the shockwave lights look great....but on the ones without the tip tanks, the lights are floating in mid-air. I will either have to leave red and green nav lights off this variant or break it down into two sub-folders...F2H-3 Tanks and F2H-3 No Tanks. For me, I'm going to separate the two so I can have nice nav lights.....

OBIO

Makes sense to me. Do you have plans for the AI (airborne intercept) radar scope in the night fighter?

Gotta be PC nowadays - those are "himacanes," in the interest of fairness. Yeah, we watch 'em - living about 50 or 60 feet from the pond like we do.

I know there is a radar gauge or three out there that will show the position of the AI planes in your area....have never downloaded them, never used them. I might dig around and find one of them and jazz up the Banshee with it.

Nah, you're ok, they are all over in the FSX forum!! :icon_lol:

Tim, seriously .... dude, I am in awe!! Well beyond the call of duty, it's going to transform these planes. :medals:

If you have real problems in the snow, you could always follow the Russian example ......

We had similar in RAF; 2 Derwent engines (or similar, dependingwhat was lying around at each base) on a rig that was hooked up to sit on front of a fuel bowser
scroll down this link for a piccie or two ---> http://www.pprune.org/military-aircrew/401005-snow-clearance-3.html
Bowser had to be driven by a MT driver with an aircraft tech to run the engines!!!

Back on topic.... Brilliant work sorting out these gremlins guys; I think 'Razbam' Ron was a bit hard on himself though, this is the 'senior' forum after all.

Only used the russian picture because I couldn't find a decent RAF one! Used to go to the Cottesmore Family Day back in the day (my ex-father in law was ex-mob, and HIS next door neighbour was an instructor on the TTTE), their snow clearer was definitely Derwent based.

Thanks, OBIO, brings up all sorts of interesting possibilities with that radar scope.

Re: snow and snow-blowers/melters - I used to work for a Detroit-area railroad. As such we were constantly bothered during the winter with snowfalls that turned to ice, got into the switch points, especially on the main lines, and resulted in a LOT of overtime for the signal maintainers and the trainmen (they got a day's pay for every switch they had to sweep out). Company's solution - a J-33 engine on a flatcar with a fuel tank, pushed by a locomotive. I used to wonder why they didn't make the thing self-propelled. This jet on a flatcar worked fine until they realized through experience the melted snow still turned to ice after it cooled, and the switch was frozen again. Finally they got smart and installed propane switch heaters.

I just sent Prowler1111 (Ron of Razbam) a link to my YouSendIt folder so he could download the zip containing the fixed air files for the -2, -3, and -4 Banshees. Give it a few days, and I'd think that the fixed files will be available over on the Razbamsims.com site under the Banshee forum.

I will do more work on the panels and such tonight. The -2 is done and ready for use. The -2N will be the next gal to have her hair done for the stage.

Great stuff,

but just had a brain fart, rather than make the old FS9 models redundant and abandon-ware, why not donate them to the OH as donationware, even at a small price, they would help raise funds? And Obio will do the support, lol. Just joking, I'm sure we all will, he's just good at it.
