Flight 19 European Vacation

Jeff, you just never know what's going to happen...

Went into George Town to visit with Merc Air's local contacts. Farquhars Bar at the Eastern and Oriental Hotel (the E. & O.) provided a suitable location. In our discussions, it became apparent that we might have a lucrative business opportunity. Apparently, one of our men has been in touch with an undisclosed agency that would like to conduct a number of discreet freight operations in the region. The guys over at Flying Tigers have agreed to the enterprise and need a pilot with the right reputation. (Don't know why they went to Merc Air's men in Panang. Wonder if that means anything?)

In any case, I shall be flying a Flying Tigers B727-100F while moving a few goods about the region. Some sort of Export-Import operation, from what little that I understand. Other pilots and aircraft will be needed...provided that they have the "right character."

You can get an AI version of the Flying Tigers aircraft here:

Fortunately the Icelandair 727 is a convertible model. I've taken the seats out and given the passengers plastic 5 gallon buckets to sit on. At $1.50 per bucket with the lid, they're cheaper on my end than seats anyway. And they double as stowage and flotation devices. Plus I can make room for some cargo now.

Here we were getting ready to take off to Indonesia and next thing I knew we were heading 1000nm to Cocos Island. Although a bit longish, it was a nice flight accentuated by moments of terror when the overspeed alarms started going off as I was riding the "barber pole". Fortunately the aircraft never went "poof".

The pictures are reversed.

Glad to see you all made it to my little oasis :icon_lol:
I got in early yesterday morning via WIII ( tour operators wanted to check out properties in Volcanoworld.)
Alas, a fine BBQ and drinks interfered with me flying escort for the Motley Crew but I should be fueled and ready tonight with the 720B ( it's faster than the -07 and has enough range= 3000nm) - and the short-body looks nicer!

Since it looks like speed-creep season has returned, I may have to sort out the gauge/panel/texture issue with the CV990 that's giving me OOM's (btw, it happens with the "late model" HJG Boeing panel too )

MAERSK??? ever wonder what's in all those shipping containers we move around the world??? hmmmm...

:salute:Darn, sure looks as though you are having some great and funfilled flights. Sure wish I was flying with you all. Should be home in a week or so and then back in the cockpit.

Jim

Nice flight to Christmas Island. Had few overspeed issues, but nothing major happened.

Looking forward to your return Taco!

Islands on the Rim

We have a suggested list of intermediate stops between Christmas Island and Tokyo Haneda. You can get a Triptik that describes each of the stops and indicates several addon sceneries that might be helpful. In addition, included is a landclass for the Philippines.

You can get the zipfile at MediaFire here:

Nice flight from Christmas Island to Surabaya, Indonesia. Although things got a bit wonky after we landed and a bunch of us got kicked off the server and had to reconnect. All and all a good time was had.

Enjoyable flight out of Christmas Island, passing the volcanoes of Java's Ring of Fire and descending into Surabaya's Juanda. Good chit chat. But this crew simply cannot match up with vW for enhanced hilarity...

Great flight to WAAA from Surabaya. Although it was a little foggy at WAAA. Although, I think Rob had a little issue on final that involved doing a little surfing before climbing back up.

A couple of snapshots showing flight operations at Makassar's Hasanuddin. SrG Maersk 720B taxiing, Willy's Icelandic 727 rollout, and Sky's Lufthansa 727 on short finals. Then Moses greasing his Cathay Pacific 707 landing.

Enjoyable jaunt over Mindanao and into the heart of the Philippines--with Willy, MaddogK, and Sky_Warwick. Mactan-Cebu, on a small island, serves the Cebu City, the second largest metropolitan area of the archipelago.

We left Cebu for the RPLI in the north. Great flight with some interesting terrain on descent.

Next up, the dreaded Runway 13 approach at Kai Tak! Hopefully it won't prove to be a crash fest.

Jealous

This has been a very entertaining thread fellas.

A Prop Guy forever, but I do enjoy some of the earlier "Tubes" with the Whisperjet right up at the top-o-the-list.

Good Luck on the next flight ... an all time favorite.

Thanks Salt!

Found a Lockheed L1011 TriStar freighter that they were needing a flight crew for to fly to Hong Kong carrying a load of explosives for making fireworks. The money is good and they agreed to deliver the 727 to Kai Tak as part of the deal. Shouldn't be that much more difficult to fly than the smaller Boeing. Shucks, they both have three engines. How much difference can there be?

Well that was an interesting flight. It went pretty good until landing at Kai Tak. Both mains folded up under the aircraft and with the resulting fire, Fred and I jumped out and let the crash dozer push it into the bay. Good thing that the 727 was there waiting on us. Everyone else made it in okay.

Here's some screenshots, but they got scrambled around when I uploaded them.....

Yep, good flight into Hong Kong. I got there a tad early to watch the traffic roll in (so to speak). Enjoyed watching Willy push that old L1011 into the bay.

The Cathay 707 will remain here. Off to the back ramp to see what is available...
