Flight 19 European Vacation

Missed my chance to take pics last night, but I offer one today- my new DF727 (wife hates me spending money on ME instead of her)

Plenty of pics tonight and they're in order too!

We left Hong Kong Kai Tak and headed northeast to Taipei, Formosa (RCSS). Great flight with lots of great company and no one got shot down.

:wiggle:Back in the Saddle again! After some R&R for a couple of weeks it's sure great being back and flying with Flight 19! Some photos of my first flight back.

As discussed in the PM's and online, here is the plan forward to Seattle (KBFI)
Note that is was created beginning in Hong Kong so it's good to use right away on the last legs into Tokyo as well.
Zip contains both FS2004 and FSNavigator plans - just unzip and stuff them in your appropriate folders

:kilroy:Here we go onto the land of the rising sun! Interesting, I had a uncle flying this route many years ago, but he was carrying a very different cargo than we will be carrying.

Got a gig flying for Northwest Orient to celebrate their role in establishing the northern United States to the Orient route through Alaska.

We left Naha and flew alongside the Ryukyu Islands to the historic international port city of Nagasaki. During the 16th century, the local daimyo allocated the port to foreigners--as an inducement to trade. After westerners were expelled, until the Meiji restoration, it served as the only contact with China. And during the nineteenth century it became a center for western influence and then industrial modernization. (Enroute, there was great conversation including some discussion of whether the city was the home of saki-fed naugas and thus the source of naugahyde.)

The international airport (RJFU) is located on Minoshima Island in Omura Bay 11 miles north of the main city. An enjoyable flight with a chance to see many striking liveries adorning the classic steamjets: vW Air Ceylon DC-8, MaddogK United 727, SrG BOAC VC-10, Willy Icelandair 727, MM Northwest 727, Moses United DC-8, and Sky Lufthansa 727. (Unfortunately, we lost Taco's BOAC VC-10 to netstorms.)

Nice flight to Nagasaki with plenty of folks flying along. On approach, I just followed the red tail 727 in.

Last night was quite a learning experience, finally got the INS alignment procedures down and made my maiden flight in a new paint in the DF 727-100. Even had others see it ! I remember a youngster traveling alone across country to visit relatives in the beautiful United Airlines aircraft of the 60's, and was quite proud to be able to climb aboard and fly on one again. Tonight, I parked the complex DF and took the 'Golden Falcon' HJG 727 to give my brain a little rest. A real shame I didn't get a shot of the perfect landing I pulled on the short rwy 4 at RJTT- kept the nose wheel from the pavement until all the air was gone from under the wings- 40 kts aprox.

:applause:It sure was a nice flight even with being bumped off five times and ctd one time. I guess it could have been worst, but at least I was able to get back on. Getting to like the VC-10 after figuring out the A/P. Like they say: "The only thing different between us Yanks and them Brits is the language." Hehe.

We had a nice flight to RJCK on Hokaido. Although I had a landing so rough I ended up back in Tokyo.

On another note, we got to talking about our next leg which is over 800nm long and decided to wait until Friday to fly it, so we're taking tomorrow off.

Howdy folks,

Well, sure have had some bad experiences while flying near and in Japan. Being bumped off a number of times and now CTDs. We started out pretty good, at least I got a couple of pictures, and then before getting to cruise altitude the wind and poopie flew, never could get back on with flight 19. Hopefully, things will change.

Some Kodaks from Nagasaki, passing Hiroshima and over the Inland Sea, and into Tokyo's Haneda.

Then, going back to Haneda in 1965--just after the improvements for the Olympics--we head north. Sad to see the northern coast of Honshu that was so badly hurt by this year's tsunami.

We put Japan behind us and flew northish to Russia. Long flight with good company.
