FlightSim.com is OFFICIALLY Offline...

FlightSim.com I honestly think is GONE.
Speaking AS someone in the I.T. field, (since 1984), I find it HILARIOUS, it's taking those bunch of clowns as long as it is to re-do!
A visual, makeover should take NO MORE that 3-4 months tops, not 6+ and counting!
I think you will find FlightSim.to has quietly taken it's place, (but you aren't supposed to know that!).
As I said earlier, "bunch of clowns", and we ALL know it!

FlightSim.to is pointless to me, I've never been there and have no desire to go as I don't use any of the new MSFS products and never will.

All those lost files...feel so sorry for the creators
I only upload my creations to SOH but I wonder if the former Flightsim.com members who only uploaded their files to the Flightsim.com library have any legal grounds regarding the fact that their files are no longer available to the public thanks to the removal of the site from public access?

I guess that would depend on what was in the fine print when they uploaded to the library and whether there was any comeback for failure to make available.

Everyone, members & uploaders, got plenty of notice that Flightsim was shutting shop for a while..
Seriously.. legal grounds for 'missing' freeware?

Anything is possible if a lawyer gets paid enough, look at all the lawsuits currently being fought for stupid reasons! If a developer submitted their files to a file library on an exclusive basis and that file library then with-holds access to those files then a canny lawyer could argue that the public is being denied access to those files by the actions of the file library owner. Stranger things happen in courts across the USA every day!

The fact is that the new owners of Flightsim.com have got day jobs and family commitments just like the rest of us.
They are NOT full-time Flightsim.com employees or contractors.
If the new website takes longer than estimated to create and launch, so be it - projects like this usually do.
Maybe a progress update on the Flightsim.com landing page would be very much appreciated, in place of this message:

People, look SERIOUSLY, their message "appeal to a wider audience" is just as stupid as the message Hollywood is shoving down people's throats right now, changing things to suit "The Message"!
It is fact many have said "why change it AGAIN?", indeed WHY, if not to destroy it?
I stand by my assessment, with 42 years of knowledge backing me up. Those who control FlightSims.com ARE CLOWNS, clueless to the end!

Before they closed the FlightSim site down, I defended their decision to do so, and to make the site whatever they wish. They are the ones who bought the site and all rights associated with it. I still stand by that assessment... It is their site, they can do whatever, or nothing, as they see fit. And should it return, each of us will make a decision to utilize and participate, or to place your efforts elsewhere. There are probably very few on this site, SOH, who do not participate on other sites to some extent. And many of us who met online at FlightSim, now share our time here. We will each make a decision as to our level of participation once they return So the hand wringing, Monday morning quarterbacking, and name calling, before they even re-release the site, is pointless and tiring.

For me, personally, the FlightSim closure brought me to increase my participation on SOH. As FlightSim was shutting down, I also approached the SOH team about adding the Rotorhead Forum. They did so, allowing me an opportunity to participate at a different level, and for which I am deeply appreciative.

So let's just wait and see what, if anything, happens with FlightSim. And again, should it return, we will each make our own decision on participation at that time. Until then, why keep stirring up dirt.

I agree with you, Dick! but for some members, complaining about this or that is all they seem to have. I have one guy over at AVSIM, who is in the Moderation Que,
that has absolutely nothing good to say about most developers. I guess he feels he got ripped off by one for 5 Quid a long time ago and constantly lets everyone
know about it. They seem to thrive on negativity!

Here is the point, whether they have jobs or not doesn't mean they should chop a site that many use. If they CANNOT run it correctly, then let those of us who would, run it.
WHY change the site in the first place, if it is not broken?! Old saying "if it isn't broke, don't fix it"!
I repeat my last statement, 3-4 months should be the Maximum amount of time taken to "upgrade" a site!
I find it amusing people think "Flightsim.to" is not Flightsim.com, the former is for FS2020/24, while the latter is for everything else.
Really?
Wasn't Flightsim.com SUPPOSED to be about ALL variants of Flight Simulator? Funny how the new one is operating yet the older is "under reconstruction".
I'm coming to the conclusion, the whole thing is a joke, as a qualified REAL Pilot, I think I'll stick with the real thing from now on!

Contact them and make an offer to purchase FlightSim, put YOUR money where your mouth is. They bought it, and they can let it totally disappear, if that is their desire.

as a qualified REAL Pilot,
Ohhhh... a "qualified" REAL Pilot. Like that has any weight in a discussion of a site designed to promote home PC flight sims.
If you wish to play liars poker, we can go toe to toe with our Certifications and Logbook entries.

But that would be an exercise in futility as well. Other than experience we might offer to sim only pilots, being an actual pilot means nothing concerning the status of a web site.

I think I'll stick with the real thing from now on!
Not clear as to what the existence of FlightSim has to do with you flying your sim or not... seems to be an odd agument.

I'm not sure if it should be a "qualified" REAL Pilot, or a "QUALIFIED" real Pilot, or a "qualified" real PILOT?
And these 'qualifications' matter because??

YES, really!

Apples & Oranges!
A qualified REAL Pilot should know the difference!
