Exactly, Robin. We all know these things take time, and we all expect someone who claims to have "42 years" of IT experience to know it too.
I know bullshit when I smell it, and so do you. I hope he's a better "pilot" than an internet troll, because he really needs more practice at the latter...

Ohhhh... a "qualified" REAL Pilot. Like that has any weight in a discussion of a site designed to promote home PC flight sims.
If you wish to play liars poker, we can go toe to toe with our Certifications and Logbook entries.

But that would be an exercise in futility as well. Other than experience we might offer to sim only pilots, being an actual pilot means nothing concerning the status of a web site.


Not clear as to what the existence of FlightSim has to do with you flying your sim or not... seems to be an odd agument.

A quick heads up to advise that ranting & personal comments are uncalled for, here at SOH, as is criticizing management of our sister sites.

To be analogous, you can purchase a rare 1957 Ferrari TR250, take it home, get a sledgehammer and beat it into a pile of scrap metal if you like. You bought it, it is yours, that is your right. And every auto enthusiast on the planet can deem you a pile of ambulatory excrement for doing so. That is their right.

Flightsim.com is gone. It will not return. Oh, at some point in the future there may be a website accessed by that URL, but it will not be the site everyone remembers, the site we all visited for decades, that site will exist solely in our memories. And its legacy is not tarnished by the "respect" the new owners claimed, it will outlive them.
 
From this we learn that nothing online is permanent; that technology is transient and that obsolescence is built-in and inevitable.
Finding a reasonably future-proof platform and format for an online forum these days must be a nightmare with Android, Apple, PC, PS and Xbox compatibility to consider.
Will it be a PC website as before, or a cross-platform App?
A cross-platform App takes time and money to develop, and if that's the road the new owners have now chosen, so be it.
 
Gotta say... it's disappointing to see FlightSim.com is still dead. Were they still selling First Class Memberships up until the end? I'd be pissed if I'd paid for a membership just for this to happen.

For background... I worked as a moderator with Nels before he sold both FlightSim and Trainsim... With his help, I was able to get Nicholas to sell me Trainsim, and I'm eternally glad he agreed to that. We still have our 25 years of forum threads, screenshots, and more importantly, 25 years of user contributions and mods... Had that not happened, that would all be digital dust in the wind now.

Seven months.... that's just poor management. Never shut down the servers if you're not ready to move forward with the redesign or new software. They've already lost most if not all of their audience. Perhaps a fraction will return.

For comparison... I managed to move Trainsim over to new servers in about two weeks, and only took six hours of downtime in the process with no loss of functionality for the members. We recently had a server shred itself, and had everything restored off backups in 72 hours (while still doing my day job...). Had there not been a problem with the actual forum software, we could have been back in under 24 hours.

I'm glad to see this community was able to pick up the slack. Y'all have earned the loyalty of the FS Refugees, and I hope they continue to stick around even if the new FlightSim.com ownership team gets their act together.

I was thinking that too, 7 months to sort out a website, which in all DID NOT need to be changed yet again seems excessive!
Have the feeling, Flightsim.to has taken it's place, even if it is not evident.
I still say, I cannot see the point of "updating" something that isn't broken!!!
