FlightSim Developers P38 Now Released

Hi Tim,
I saw your PM to late, and did a complete redownload of your newest version, now everthing works fine: lights, gauges, redbull frames! The loadmanger still resists to close, anyway repaints will be added by hand.
Thank you Tim, Chuck and the others involved, I´m quite happy and looking forward to your reduced
texture resolution set!!

Thanks, Thilo

Hi, Tim,
saw your PM to late and did a complete redownload a hour ago, everything is working fine now, just the load manager resists to close, repaints will be added by hand.
Thank you Tim, Chuck and all in the team, I´m very happy and looking forward to your resized textureset!

Thanks, Thilo

Oh no, doublepost, sorry but I thought the first one was gone... no chance to delete?

I uploaded the reduced resolution texture set and they should be available soon , the lights issue was resolved with a bit of wizardry to release FSX of the control of the bright/night textures, currently if you turn on the cockpit lights the exterior lights will work , i had uploaded the files for this over the weekend and they will be included in the main installer containing a complete set of files for all new clients and for current users to reload when they are completed.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />
We will keep you all informed of the proceedings, many thanks for your patience .

available here or on the FSD website?

For those waiting for some lower res textures, I just finished uploading Gentle Annie and Maloney's Pony in 2048 textures. I've also included new spec and bump files in 2048. Flies beautifully on my comp now..

I should have the others up soon as well.

Looking forward to them Jan, they look gorgeous

*EDIT* I was running the original release install, patched it, patch didnt work, so yesterday I reinstalled my original file, today I decided to delete everything and download the latest main installer, I must say I dont know why but im getting better performance so far, plus I now have the disappearing yoke, and smoke.

I have the YF-23 working fine.

But when I went to run the P-38 SR, I get "The program cannot update your Lockheed P-38 Lightning because the original installation directory is missing or corrupt. Reinstallation is recommended."

However, I haven't done anything to the P-38 directory. When I originally installed it, I did get the error at the end, but it actually worked fine.

This is under Win 7.

So current status: YF-23, latest SR installed, working fine, except for a "Could not validate license" message at the top of the screen if I use the Shift-F1 helmet HUD.
P-38: Working now (instruments back in the Red Bull version), but unable to install the SR with the other fixes due to the installer error above.
Reinstalled both the P-38 and the YF-23 using the new "full" installers.

The YF-23 now seems perfect. The HUD message is gone.

The P-38 installed correctly. GPS popup now works, etc. The only remaining issue I've encountered with this version is that I can't throw the switches to turn on the exterior lights in the restored Red Bull version; they do work in the WW2 P-38J I tried.

I have a question for FSD, in aircraft payload it shows the 500 pound bombs only as 5 pounds? is this a correct or should the bombs be 500 pounds?

Also by adding 180 to the aircraft.cfg for the nosewheel turning deflection will that make it accurate for non-steering nosewheel just like the Real P-38?

Regarding the Bomb load , when the external fuel is set to 0 then one can add 00 to the 5 to = 500 in the payload menu and the bombs will be available to be deployed .

The castoring nose wheel is set up for this model and turns as it would with the hydraulic resistance pistons in action , it wasn't designed to spin in complete circles

Thanks for clearing that up.

Also can you guys check it almost sounds like the left engine is on the right side on my speakers, When I do an engine run up they sound switched. Also I did single engine and it seems like they have no tendency to yaw very much. I did full throttle on one engine and other failed and had no problem keeping it straight after liftoff with only about quarter rudder.

2 quick questions. 1. I mentioned this earlier but it got overlooked i think, the restored p-38 has no turbos correct? However it uses a soundset with a turbo whine. 2. When im flying on main tanks my reserve drains first then the main starts draining, is this normal? Thank you.

I want to publically thank Tim, and the entire FSD and MilVis crew, for making the Lightning one of the most thrilling releases for FSX.. I have been "hit-and-miss", as far as development to the release has progressed, but I must say that the customer service that has been evident with this release is not only notable, but raises the bar from past releases by any developer.... Thanks, guys, for making these fantasy flights reality, at least virtual....Ooooh Rahhhh!:icon29:

The restored P-38 was a late additon and more of a free add-on. We dont have access to a good sound sampling of its engines. It also sounds like a FedEx truck at idle. Not very attractive if you ask me ;)

Great work, FSD/Milviz, in delivering an incredible set of simulations here with your P-38s. Still flying her like a madman. Go figure.

Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated.

Now, can you write a note to my wife to that effect? :ernae:

Now she`s a beauty with performance! The 2048 texture set is highly recommended to every user of decent hardware.

Cheers, Thilo

The USAAF repaints I've posted so far are all 2048, so give them a try too.

Tim, feel free to host mine on your site.

Meanwhile, I continue working on this one:
