For those who had given up all hope... (Fokker G-1A)

Believe me I can fully understand your feelings. I did put a lot of effort in research for this model and made the textures. But in the end it is not my model.

Huub

This was a team effort, was it not? A modeler, a flight dynamics guy, and a texture artist, correct?

It's been almost a year since Michael disappeared. Contact Benoit, get his vote, and if he says yes, give Michael full credit for the model and release it as "abandonware" with a disclaimer that it is "as is" due to the disappearance of the modeler. If Michael should show back up after a year's absence and complain about the release, it can always be removed from the library....

Just my two cents worth....

I totally agree with Astoroth - modeling is a team effort - and this model is to good to not see the light of day!

I also agree with Astoroth. The 140+ posts in this thread certainly confirm the continued interest in seeing this airplane rolled out. As for releasing it "as is", it's always easier to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission. ;) If Michel returns and has some heartburn with the plane being uploaded it can always be pulled from the d/l files. You other guys in the project deserve to have your work seen and appreciated.

My thoughts exactly ...

If I understand the jist of this thread, three of you agreed to colaborate to bring to the FS community a rendition of the Fokker G-1A. The agreement was there from the beginning to release this aircraft to the FS community. Some time later, one of the three, the individual doing the modeling, fell off the earth (see it IS flat). All attempts to contact this individual have met with silence.
At the last known contact, the intent was still to release the aircraft to the FS community.

In my opinion, that intent still stands. It has never been rescinded by the modeler so the other parties to the production of the aircraft would be within their rights to continue their respective efforts and then release the aircraft. They would have to use the model as it stands though. It would not have to be a Beta version, just a release.

The modeler alone does not own this aircraft (notice I have said aircraft not aircraft model). It was and is a colaborative effort. By asking others to contribute to the finished product they have relinquished their sole ownership of the aircraft. Whilst they still have sway over the aircraft models in development, any versions of that model released to the other developers becomes community property of the development team. A majority decision of those developers could release any of those versions to the wider community.

I believe that the remaining developers could release this wonderful aircraft to us. Please.

Now I wait with trepidation while the lawyers out there destroy my beautifully crafted arguments with the trivalities of legal argument and facts.

Regards
Paul

I love WWII twins.

Paul, I'd say you pretty much nailed it.
BTW, my sympathies to you folks in NZ regarding the coal mine tragedy. :(

As a modeler and project leader, I think the best thing to do is make an all out effort to contact oldliner52. He may have frequented other forums especially in his native language. Certainly he has had friends in his favorite FS genres, maybe some in France, that might be able to bring clarity to the situation. Put out an all points bulletin in several forum sites, maybe those where designers hang out, as well as forums like these.

The idea is to get closure on Michael's existence and well-being first. If after scouring the web produces no results, then I think you have every right in a team development situation to release the package. His copyright is on the bare model source and compiled model unmodified. You are enhancing the model significantly with FM, sounds, gauges, textures, effects, and documentation. All these enhancements IMO to the bare model make the team's package a significant embellishment to the bare model and nullify's any concerns of legal matters regarding a team freeware project especially since the original intent was to collaborate with a joint ownership freeware project delivery.

Giving him full credits for all his work in no way detracts from his leadership or contributions to the full project. Whether he left by choice, fate, nature's intervention, I believe you have in your rights and his best intentions the right to release the project. Not knowing what VC deficiencies exist. you may wish to call it "uncompleted", not "beta".

Just my opinion here.

Last weekend I have send some e-mail to people in the French Flightsim community. Hopefully this will bring some news. And when it is impossible to restore contact, I hope at least to learn something about the whereabouts of Michel.

Depending on the outcome of this, I will make my plans.

Cheers,
Huub

PS Milton, is a model ever finished?

Never finished ... not until 10's of thousand actual parts are fully modeled and textured accurately. We only produce "likenesses". :)

I hope Michel is well.

While reading this whole topic I got an impression things were amiss in a reality sense and was forced to take leave of the project. Things appeared to get back to normal and Michel returned to update us in the progress. Then fell astray once again. For whatever reason no one knows. Michael is truly an asset gone M.I.A.

Huub,

You've done great work (as always) and do everything you touch great justice. The era looks depicted very nicely.

I hope this story has a safe landing so everyone can view her.

Well said Oleboy. I hope Huub can trace Michel......

Nothing heard from the French simmers I had contacted, but I think I have his phone number (Amazing what you can find on the internet). I will give it a try later this week.

Cheers,
Huub
