Freeware B-24D

Well ....

.... it does look great. :ernae: It is a big hitter on the framerates and I am going to make the LODs a little more defined than I usually do. I will make a LOD90 that will have far fewer details but won't kill slower machines. If you don't have your aircraft slider on 5 you will miss some of the amazing work. But once you back off it really doesn't matter anyway. :mixedsmi: From 100 meters or so the richness in detail is wasted. Life is full of compromises....

BTW, it makes a great target for the 190's (Mathias) and Do 217's, brings joy to my heart....:icon_lol:

The Liberator was a favorite target of Hptm Kraus from 6/NJG 101. In eastern Germany he did very well using his Do217 N1/N2's in scoring several kills...just a bit of history.

Well, ya know...

We would all like to see un-limited poly mesh on this stuff. But, unfortunately, things need to fall within reason.

I should talk, since alot of stuff I build (not released) is perhaps a little on the heavy side. Simply too easy to do. Should be a halfway point. But, I do know it's real hard to make a wheel from four polys.

The 24 VC mesh looks great. Without a poly count...I can still tell that ONLY the needed polys were used, but the shapes were gotten. That's what it's all about.

I dont know, the poly's are adding up fast :icon_lol:

Understand that, sdsbolt.

Easy to go overboard in model-building. But, the way I look at it, if it's worth fooling with, it might as well look decent. From the first look, your doing a great job!

Some big bird like the 24 is loaded with all kinds of goodies, and that kinda makes it a toss in the air, getting it done. Good thing about the VC is it's not visable unless your in it.

Hats off to ya! I know you have alot of work ahead.

I wonder whether it wouldn't be worth considering an AI-only version with a relatively low poly count? Some of the recent aircraft, such as the W40/ETO Ju88a-1, are too heavy for some of the less up-to-date computers... Just a thought.

Ju88a-1

That's odd since the A-1 was just a simple modification of the Microsoft model by clipping the wings. The best way to keep the framerates within reason is to make 5-6 LOD's.

I will make an AI version just as I did for the Lancasters and a few of the Halifaxes. Since most AI's are used as extras I used the main model's LOD 50 as the AI's LOD 100. This allows for many AI's in the sky.

Just a warning ... the JU290 is framerate heavy so only one or two can be in the sky at the same time. I may make an AI version to help with this but these planes usually flew solo so it should not be much of a concern.

That's what I'd understood you'd done, too, which is why I was rather surprised. But the difference on my machine at least is that I can fly against ten or fifteen 88a-4s, and only four or five 88a-1s before my framerates tuen into a slideshow. Foxes me, too, but there you are! :banghead::icon_eek:

The skin resolution doesn't make a bit of difference, comparing a Spitfire IX with a 1024 skin to the same model with a 2048 skin gives the very same 54-55 fps with both. However, comparing a Ju 88C-6 (Ted's work) to the Ju 88A-1 gives respective figures of 62 fps and 44 fps, both with 2048 skins, so there's definitely something in the model. Absolutely no idea what, though.

I'm away from my own rig, so I can't check - I meant how many texture files does each model use, rather than the resolution. :isadizzy:

:icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol: Glad to see I'm not going completely off my trolley!

can't wait to fly this Lib' in one of the Ploesti mission Househobbit is building!

me too! thats why I'm doing my part.

When the Masters here finish, i will be the first inline to beg for it.. Their work on this is wonderful..
And I shall have the missions ready and waiting for this Bird..
I too want to use it in the Poiesti missions..
BRAVO to all..
And THANK YOU VERY MUCH..
