FS2004 Fairey Firefly AS 5 and Mk 6

A million "thank you" to you Milton. Your help with Gmax kept me going. Every time I learned something from you, I couldn't wait to get on to the next thing, and the next. Here we are 2.5 years later, and this is the result I was hoping for. Thanks for being patient and a great teacher.

Oh and yes...lol Scott. Corrected..doh!

I know what you mean WH, I built it and I still can't land the thing well. But I know others who have tested it for me say it lands fine. It's a heavy aircraft. When you approach the stall speed you really have to work to keep it flying.

She does look at home over Duxford especially when she's with a Sea Fury, Sea Hurricane and Sea Fire ( well a repainted Real Air Spitfire ;) ) and she'll even hold course with a Swordfish too but damn is it hard work

Hopefully a nice video as a thank you will be available of all the aboev over Duxford....That is if I can land the damn thing properly :icon_lol:

Yes she does. Can't wait to see the video.

Yes, the textures are 32 bit and they do take a while to load on a slow machine like yours...and mine. But don't convert them to DXT3, if anything DXT1, FS2004 doesn't read DXT3. You will lose all the detail and clarity though. Is the minimal frame gain worth that? You can reduce the sliders in FS9 to speed up loading time. You might be better off Mike to shut down unnecessary programs with AlacrityPC or similar, and set your FS9.exe to a higher priority process. Also make sure you keep defragged and Ccleaned. That's the best one can do with a slower rig.
You could always beg and plead to the guy in the red suit, and hope he thinks you've been a good boy all year. That's where I'm at. :icon_lol:

This is one fine peice of work, Mate. But as is always the case, I am compelled to mess with it a bit. Here are my Shockwave bits and some start up effects. I also swapped out the sounds for Nigel's crazy/loud Bristol Centaurus set.

Yes she does. Can't wait to see the video.

Its not the finished article as I have a few commitments to honour I forgot but just a quick pass to show the road im going to be going down

Photobucket has also squashed it a bit so a click of the full screen tab is needed, the final video will be on youtube at 1080p

:jawdrop::jawdrop: Holy smoke that's awesome!!! Nice Diamond formation at the end. I watched it like, 9 times.

I want to point out something on the model. I don't know if anyone has ever done this on a model before. Has anybody zoomed in on the pilot and watched his head?... He blinks. Perhaps it's a little over the top, sure but, the command was simple the animation was easy, why not eh? Now, I think it makes him a character instead of a representation-of-a-pilot-object. Which to me makes the model way cooler for us. :mixedsmi:

I noticed this right off the bat. I was zooming in on the panel, from the spot view... the pilot looked over at me and blinked (kinda spookey-lookey). Thought it was a very nice touch that added to the overal quality of the model.
The Royal Australian Navy flew the Firefly during the Korean war... it'd be nice to see some RAN paint on this superb model :australia:

Not Too Bad, for a first try...

Late to the party I am, but only because I have been playing with these wonderful toys.
Of course Duxford beckons, so the timing of the release is good, too!

And not just one, but a few of 'em!

EDIT: New video driver, I just noticed the ghastly AA settings...
UKV might yet beat me to the draw - the video can't be used now.
No matter, getting there is half the fun...thank you so much for this brilliant Christmas prezzie, Doug.

Doug, I remember a while back when Sean Doran did repaints for the AFG Kingair, he included 16bit options to the 32bit textures and they had a lesser hit on framerates and suffered no loss of quality ... I would love it if you had time for these texture options - your creation looks so awesome - I really want to fly it ... Mike :)
