FS2004 Fairey Firefly AS 5 and Mk 6

The aircraft in front is missing some textures; you'll need to copy those over from one two models.

BTW Am I the only one who can barely get it off the ground? Even with half a fuel load it takes a loooong runway to get airborne.

Same here. Not sure if I am doing something wrong but I 'm having a rough time with performance too.Even in level flight with proper RPM,cooler flaps, mixture settings I can barely maintain 120 knots.Help!:ques:

Edit:will look into it Navtech.Thanks!

Just a quick note... has anyone noticed that you can see through the tip of the radome on the right wing on "BD0G"? I was just flopping around, practising some T&G's, in the spot view... lo and behold, the tip of the radome on the right wing is transparent.... only when against the plane's right wing and fuselage... looks fine otherwise. It shows up in the "Select an Aircraft" preview window too...

It's actually chrome, so the alpha can be adjusted to suit.

I may have something slightly off yes, it's my first airfile. But remember it's a heavy aircraft. 16000lbs is the max takeoff weight, 13000lbs is the weight to calculate Rate of climb. Plus it's considered a taildragger. Many things to go against. Throw a crosswind in there and you've got your work cut out for you.:icon_lol:

I don't know if you've ever built an air file from scratch but it's very mathematically challenging. I'm bound to make errors. Math is not my strong point. That part took me nearly 8 months to get it to fly the way she does, which is very true to the information I gathered. Then one has to wonder, is it right? Does it represent? Or is it just a simulation? Always things to consider in every process.

I thought so, wasn't sure what I was looking at but yes, you have to copy some textures over to the BDG folder.

Cheers, great shot.

I noticed this right off the bat. I was zooming in on the panel, from the spot view... the pilot looked over at me and blinked (kinda spookey-lookey). Thought it was a very nice touch that added to the overal quality of the model.
The Royal Australian Navy flew the Firefly during the Korean war... it'd be nice to see some RAN paint on this superb model :australia:

BB686:USA-flag:

After Christmas rush is over, I'll prepare the layered paintkit and send it up. I'd love to see those. I came across a few when I was researching.

When I have the Firefly in sim, I get a telegraph like Beep beep beep sound....like morse code sort of. I know it has something to do with the radio or ADF or one of those thingies.....had this issue with another plane some time ago...can't remember how to fix it.

Doug

You did an amazing job with the modeling and animation on these birds. For a first effort, you knocked the ball plum out of the park, beyond the parking lot, over a couple of streets, onto the subway station and way down town! Superb in every way.

Doug, I remember a while back when Sean Doran did repaints for the AFG Kingair, he included 16bit options to the 32bit textures and they had a lesser hit on framerates and suffered no loss of quality ... I would love it if you had time for these texture options - your creation looks so awesome - I really want to fly it ... Mike :)

After the holidays I'll look into the 16 bit textures as an option.

Thanks for the tip, but that one was a bit too hot for me so I went through my stack of back-up disks and I found one of my very first favourite Fs aircraft: The Fs8 Aeroplane Heaven Firefly Mk.5! It hardly works in Fs9 and it is very dated but the airfiles included provide a nice base to work with. Perhaps still a bit underpowered but that can be fixed!

Doug: You did a fantastic job on the model! :applause:

Well I guess you have to know that releasing a model like this to the mob at SOH will result in all kinds of stuff being done to it!
So there is a Racartron light set, some FDE tweaks, a Griffon soundset pinched from the Realair Spit, and so on, all adds to the pleasure!
I also haven't managed to get rid of the morse code beep, just a question of time I suppose?
But having Fun! which is the whole point.

If you'd like to try it in Recorder Module, Offsets are:
L/R: -20 and -40
U/D: -2 and -4
B/F: 54 and 100
Time: 1.0 and 2.0

Doug, you can be truly proud of what you have achieved with this one!

Is that you in the reflection of that dome, taking the picture, Doug? :salute:

No rush on the Aussie skins, mate.... I am perfectly content to fly the British and Canadian variants around. Some of my favorite scenery is in Queensland, Australia. I went for a long slow flight from Townsville to Cairns in the MkVI. Makes people wonder, mate! :icon_lol:

I want to point out something on the model. I don't know if anyone has ever done this on a model before. Has anybody zoomed in on the pilot and watched his head?... He blinks. Perhaps it's a little over the top, sure but, the command was simple the animation was easy, why not eh? Now, I think it makes him a character instead of a representation-of-a-pilot-object. Which to me makes the model way cooler for us. :mixedsmi:

Hey Doug,

Thanks for the Firefly! Awesome work mate! This one stays in my hangar and will get plenty of stick time! Aeroplane Heaven (Bazzar) has done plenty of pilots with blinking eyes, but that you did it in your first plane is proof of your skill! Chapeau! I know what it takes to make somthing like this. Wow!

Overpowered Indeed

Ferry_vo,
You are right, the A-1H air file makes it zoom (cruise at 20% power-yikes!). Grabed the air file as an 'interim' patch. Could sure use that air file you mentinoned ('Fs8 Aeroplane Heaven Firefly Mk.5'-unless it's payware). And I am looking into getting something closer to spec. Just too many things to do these days (sorry). I'll go back to previous FS versions which I have on CD as backup (after I tweak them). Have to dig them up. Cheers.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

PS: Will work on it in FS2004 FIRST, and then tweak for FSX later. Deal? Deal!

Of course .. no one explanation ... so it's help a lot :jump:
I guess it's something to disable in the panel.cfg .... :icon_lol:

I 'fixed' it by disabling the [window02] section in the panel.cfg.. (The radiostack) Not a real fix but at least the beeping is gone! :icon_lol:

It's no longer available on the net, which is why I've sent a PM to Bazzar to ask his permission to post the files here.

You can still find the page here: http://www.aeroplaneheaven.com/ahmembers/specials_OLD3.htm but the download links are dead.

BTW just noticed that our own Henry did the airfiles for that aircraft! :applause:

Scott Thomas built that radio for me, I've have emailed him about the beep. I don't hear it on my comp. Perhaps it's possible to silence in the settings or assignments. Either way, I'll let everybody know what I hear from Scott.
