Hello Boxcar, my old friend!

I tried the SEA camo scheme on for size and it's not a bad fit after all!

SEA_Camo_1.png
SEA_Camo_2.png
SEA_Camo_3.png

It's just missing some decals/insignia and the obligatory nose-art!

A quick search did turn up this site though so I may be be able to get some inspiration and artwork to copy from there!

It was originally for FSX Mike and is a full blown FSX model ..........

Let me know if you folks would like me to release it for both FSX and P3D and if there are any texture artists out there willing to finish the VC walls and Jeep textures shout up and I can get the paint kit out to you.
Like he said "YES PLEASE".
I used to watch these, and Noratlasses coming and going at Northolt in the early 1960s, and was bewitched by the layout.

Larry,
I would love a copy for FSX as well as P3D v4, please. Perhaps the prop blur texture could use a little more visibility after comparing the startup in the videos in posts 7 and 22 (but this may be dependent upon which sim is the main driver for that texture file).

Thanks again for all your work on this and your other contributions . . .

I have no idea as I don't have v5 so can't test it and v4 still had wet paint on it when we were working on this! All I can suggest is that someone needs to be a guinea pig and beta-test it in v5. I suspect that either:

a) The 'Configurator' option for v4 will either work OK for v5 or it will fail to see it as a legit option due to there being no P3Dv4 root folder and fail.

or

b) Selecting 'Other P3D Versions' may give you the option to navigate to your v5 root folder but you may loose the ability to install the 'FireFighter X' (FFX) gauges required to integrate the Boxcar seamlessly into the FFX add-on. (Not applicable if you never intend to fly the tanker versions).

As Roman unfortunately passed away several years ago (F#CK CANCER!) there is no way I can access the .exe file code and make it check for later P3D versions.
I can test if you want. Fortunately i also have V4, so in worst case i just copy the files. I hope if i choose V4 then i can change the path before installing.

The same download will work for both sims Ro, the 'Configurator' will then put the correct gauge files in place (32-bit vs 64-bit) depending on whether you select a flavour of FSX or a flavour of P3D in the selection screen.

All screenshots were taken in P3D v4.5 so it may be that P3D handles the alpha channel a bit differently to FSX, personally I like a paler prop disc but that is all down to personal preference. It's easy to find a disc you like and copy and rename the file to match the file name in the Boxcar common 'texture' folder (the only thing that matters is that the file name is identical).

Let me get it finished and I will fire off a beta to you and thanks for offering Dan as there is no way I can test it in v5. If I remember correctly the difference between the FSX install and the 64-bit P3D install process is the DSD XML sound gauge files (32 vs 64 bit) and possibly the location(s) of the XMLTools utility files and registration.

The 'Configurator' is smart enough to seek out where your sim of choice is located and put files in the correct places but it was written before v5 was created so it probably won't even look for that location. If you already have Doug's 64-bit sound pack and XMLTools installed in v5 you should be good to go but that is why we need to test to see what works.

I wish we had a coder who could crack open Roman's C++ exe file and add P3D v5 to the install process and then the problem would be solved (I don't think FSX native aircraft are compatible with v6 so that's probably a no-go)!

@Tako_Kichi

Thank you for all your hard work on this freeware project.

No problem, I'm just trying to clear up old projects on this PC box before running the risk of losing everything in a Win 11 upgrade!

There are several other unfinished projects too but I doubt they will all get released although two more aircraft are close to being finished.
