Horton HO 229 jet fighter for CFS2 released by Allen!

Hiya Allen,

Thanks.

Sorry to be such a pest
kilroy.gif
but your update hasn't quite fixed the problem.

You need to flip flop the names of the two winter textures.

Right now, with the update as is, the default view is the damaged skin. When you flip flop the names of the two files everything is jake.

Cheers and thanks again for the great new ACs for CFS2.

MR

PS: don't suppose there is any way I could cojole you into adding a tad more shone to the model?

MR

Fixed the texture names and maybe the shine. I have no idea how shine works as I have no idea how MDLC.ini text values work so it is all guess.

Thanks Allen. Just got back home from running a few late night errands- getting some chow.

I'll go get everything right now.

MR

They all look wonderful Allen. The shine is perfect!

Thanks for putting in the time! :encouragement:

Cheers,
MR

Trouble after landing

Has anyone encountered the craft going over nose first and crashed?

I am having trouble with slowing down after landing.

Yes, I experienced the same issues. Finally was able to get it to land by:

1. Having a fairly long runway 6000+ feet.
2. Approach low and slow give your self time to lose air speed- you want to hit the end of the runway at a very low angle and not over 100 mph
3. Approach with flaps fully extended and gear down- she doesn't make any fuss about extending flaps above any particular speed.
4. Once you touch down retract flaps and stay off the brakes- if you need to steer do it very lightly. She has a very narrow wheel base- side to side and front to back- thus a relatively high and narrowly supported center of gravity so she wants to tip over.
5. Once you have reduced speed to around 55 mph or so extend the flaps again this will help you lose those last few mph with out using the brakes and risking nosing over.
6. Finally when you get down to 20 mph or so use the brake- lightly.

Haven't tried any fancy taxiing around. but Im sure its probably an adventure!

Is it possible to post your great skins. Also any DP files with guns and rockets for the aircraft. Thanks from on of your many fans

There is no info if the Ho229 could carry rockets and I don't have any for it. Plus Air to Air Rockets don't work well at all in CFS2. The rocket logic cause them to drop way too fast.

BvsA,
I did trying to turn while taxiing. Try moving the CG aft by editing the "aircraft.cfg" file.
In the Weight and Balance section, change the highlighted number to at least -2.5 to -3. The -3 works well for me.
empty_weight_CG_position = -3.0, 0, 0

It may also help to reduce the steering angle a bit, from 45 to 30 degrees in the "contact points" section;
point.0= 1, 1.49, 0.000, -7.05, 1600, 0, 0.330, 30.00, 0.400, 1.250, 0.400, 3.000, 3.000, 0

Please keep in mind that I am flying the Horton in FS9, so my recommendations may need tweaking. Good luck and let me know
how (or if) it works.

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - German

Description: Probability historically inaccurate but I was not able to find any info what the 2 seat Ho-229 V4 and Ho-229 V5 prototypes under construction looked like. I took the CFS3 Ho-229A model I already converted and move the pilot forward and with a smaller nose wheel I could get radar operator in the back.

Has most animations with breaking parts and damage texture logics. Model is Multi LOD. Flight Dynamics only tested in Free Flight! Anyone is free to test and rework flight dynamics.

To check it out, rate it or add comments, visit Ho-229A Night Fighter.zip
The comments you make there will appear in the posts below.

Thanks Allen,
I took the first release for a spin the other day, lots of fun.
Got to grab this one.

Hiya Allen!

Thanks very much!

I have a teensy issue.

There seems to be a typo in the Allen_Read_Me_Install.txt file.

In each of the install steps for gauges, weapons, dp files, etc, we are instructed to go to the listed folders and delete the listed files all except for the cdp files which apparently we are also expected to delete- although it never specifically tells up to do so.

Same goes with the aircraft folder itself, instead of being told to add it to the aircraft folder we are instructed to delete it.

Like I said, no biggie, as I am sure most of us understand what we are supposed to be doing. However, you never know, some newbie might be scratching his/her head wondering why nothing seems to be showing up in the game! ;^)

Cheers,
MR

Have fun with it. Also if any CFS3ers are lurking I can sent you the gMax files.

MaskRider
How I read it is delete the listed DPs and also delete the CDP if found.

Doh!

Okay. I get it.

Those instructions I mentioned are all under the "Uninstall" heading.

Sorry for being so obtuse!
