  • Special Server Maintenance

    Just when you think you have everything running some what better...

    You get a message from the Hosting company. Short story they need to move us to a new server. I have been working with them to plan a good date for all concerned. Here is what we have come up with as a schedule.

    1. November 4th 17:00 -5UTC shut off the forums and start backup proceedures. During this time there will be no access to the forums or the Resource Section.
    2. November 5th Continue with Backups and download same until complete.
    3. November 6th 7:00 turn over server to hosting company to move system to new server
    4. November 7th - 8th restore backups and upgrade forum software.

    If all goes well we should be back online on November 8th.

    To keep you updated we will post updates on AVSIM forums.

    Thank you for your support.

IRIS Bombardier Global Express for FS2004

IRIS Bombardier Global Express for FS2004 2026-10-14

Thanks Sbob, I played around with those values to try to get the nose wheel to sit just right, but getting all the other flight factors as correct as I could took precedence. It was the .air file that was causing the overstress so I borrowed the air file from the converted to fly AI Global express model.
Together we can get this bird flying right. It was difficult to get it to handle sweetly on the ground and take off but also able to happily fly at Mach 0.9 at 40,000 ft.

I'm still messing with your update. :wiggle:

The eyepoint and the nose gear are off a bit (something like 25 feet in the X direction) but I really like how it handles.
This isn't hard to fix, it just takes time.

I am experiencing the following issues:
The GEX sways significantly from side to side when cornering on the ground (even when lightly loaded), and it also pitches forward abruptly when braking.
Does it make sense to start by adjusting the following values in the aircraft.cfg?
"Static compression", max/Static compression ratio", "damping ratio" and "empty_weight_roll_moi".

The major point that needs work is the Centre of gravity moving dependent on the fuel load. I did play around with the fuel tank positions trying to get them all at the 0,0 CG position, this may seem like cheating, but I am sure the real aircraft will have computerised fuel management so this is our FS9 management equivalent.
The problem:
CG with low fuel 6.5% :
GE empty.jpg

And with almost full tanks 96.5% :
GE full.jpg

The range is almost correct with current settings (around 6500 nmi). I did two or three test runs from Genoa (Italy) to Edinburgh (Scotland) a distance of approx 1000 nm.
Stability is not bad, on autopilot (straight and level) at normal speeds is good. At 4X normal speed some flutter and vibration can occur, strangely at 16X speed it is stable again.
The wings dip a bit when taxing round corners but this will be easily corrected with the contact point adjustment.
So some work still to be done.

The real one does that too; try and turn quick taxi-ing and you can scrape a wngtip, Oh and you can also scrape wintips on take off or landing by having too much pitch attitude

The (manual) pitch settings are a little skittish. This is for SMike's dynamics upgrade, BTW.
On the one hand, like I said, the trim changes make big differences for a large biz jet.
On the other hand, you're going to fly this thing using the auto pilot 90% of the time, and the A/P is just fine. :wiggle:

I have the eyepoint really close to where it should be. No more parking near a terminal and having it disappear because your POV is now inside the building. That means the current position of the nose gear is off by many feet (X direction) which will throw off the turn radius when you're on the ground. Since I have [contact points] "kind of" dialed in based on the "long" nose gear location, changing the X axis nose gear position will screw up the nose gear elevation again, but this fine. This is how I nail the actual contact points, anyway.

As far as this thing handling like a BMW or a Porsche when its on the ground- that ain't going to happen. :LOL:
If you try to set the nose wheel steering to 40 degrees while you're taxing at 30 kts, it gonna roll. :wavey:

Let me make some more adjustments and I'll post them in this thread once I'm finished. SMike has what I consider to be some solid flight dynamics (in the air). We just need to tame some of the ground handling.

I just wish this thing had a VC. :p

After some experimentation, the following values yield the best result. (I tested with a 30% tank level each time.)
Swaying and pitching (during rolling and braking) have been completely eliminated, and the contact points fit perfectly.

roll_MOI: Increased from just under 188,000 to 1,150,000.

Pitch_MOI: Increased from 363,000 to 1,650,000.

Suspension Damping (point.0 bis .2): The ratio (Max/Static Ratio) has been reduced from 2.5 to 2.3 (preventing the suspension from bottoming out as easily), and the damping ratio has been increased to 0.75 and 0.80, respectively, so that the nose settles smoothly after braking rather than collapsing abruptly.

[contact_points]
point.0=1, -23.63, 0.00, -7.3, 1600, 0, 0.5625, 69.8, 0.35, 2.3, 0.75, 10.0, 10.0, 0, 260.0, 260.0
point.1=1, -63.43, -6.76, -7.9, 1600, 1, 1.0, 0.0, 0.55, 2.3, 0.80, 9.0, 9.0, 2, 260.0, 260.0
point.2=1, -63.43, 6.76, -7.9, 1600, 2, 1.0, 0.0, 0.55, 2.3, 0.80, 9.0

static_pitch = -1.8
static_cg_height = 7.3
gear_system_type=1 //Hydraulic
emergency_extension_type=2 //None=0,Pump=1,Gravity=2

[WEIGHT_AND_BALANCE]
max_gross_weight = 99500 // (pounds)
empty_weight = 52230 // (pounds)
reference_datum_position = 55.35, 0, 0 // (feet) distance from FlightSim Reference position, which is: (1/4 chord, centerline, waterline)
empty_weight_CG_position = -56.0, 0, 7 // (feet) longitudinal, lateral,
max_number_of_stations = 50
station_load.0 = 170, -8.67, -1.4, 0.0 // Weight(lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet)
station_load.1 = 170, -8.67, 1.4, 0.0 // Weight(lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet)
station_load.2 = 2500, -62.0, 0.0, 0.0 // Weight(lbs), longitudinal, late
station_name.0 = "Pilot"
station_name.1 = "Co-Pilot"
station_name.2 = "Passengers"

;Moments of Inertia
empty_weight_pitch_MOI = 1650000
empty_weight_roll_MOI = 1150000
empty_weight_yaw_MOI = 1850000
empty_weight_coupled_MOI = 0.0

The moments of inertia (MOI) values entered are appropriate for a light Learjet, but far too low for a heavy Global Express.
It is as if the aircraft, while on the ground, has the physical weight of a truck but the inertia of a feather—which causes it to sway excessively when cornering.

Scotty, I haven't tried it yet but have you done some touch downs from the external view? :unsure:
That's how I can tell if the gear positions in [contact points] are close.

BTW, anyone want to take a shot at the Scrape Points? :p

For the moment i have this one at the parking position. Touchdowns will follow today.

Your numbers look good. (y)

While we're on the subject-

[Views]
eyepoint= -25.63, -1.85, 3.7 //(feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical distance from reference datum

This is about as close as I can figure it, unless we get a VC.
This is also based on SMike's FD update.

Update- I made a change to [views]. I have a dandy CL-604 installed in FS2002 that uses -1.85 as the Y value. The -604 has about the same cabin diameter and also has a VC.

I also think it’s best if you work with my values yourself.
It wouldn’t be of any use for you if i send you a screenshot of my touchdown. It’s better for you if you test things using my data on your own PC and your own FS9 setup.

Sbob and Scotty I have adopted all your changes: Contact Points, Weight and balance and Viewpoints.
Additionally I have made the changes below:
Changes in BOLD:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[weight_and_balance]
// ACM V2.5
max_gross_weight = 99500 // (pounds)
empty_weight = 52230 // (pounds)
reference_datum_position = 0, 0, 0 // (feet) distance from FlightSim Reference position, which is: (1/4 chord, centerline, waterline)
empty_weight_CG_position = 0.0, 0, 0 // (feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical distance from specified datum

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[fuel]
Center1=-20.0, 0.0, -2.5, 800.0, 0.0
Center2=-20.0, 0.0, -2.5, 800.0, 0.0
LeftMain=-20.0, -20.0, -2.5, 1200.5, 0.0
RightMain=-20.0, 20.0, -2.5, 1200.5, 0.0

fuel_type=2
number_of_tank_selectors=1
electric_pump=1

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now the Centre of Gravity for full or empty tanks is within acceptable parameters:
Almost full:
Almost full v2.jpg

Almost empty (maybe some adjustment could still be made):
Almost empty V2.jpg

A delight to land, arriving at Sestri airport Genoa (LIMJ) once on the ILS glideslope put on full flaps and 125Kts. (and wheels down of course) Some 3 nmi. from touch down switch off auto speed and autopilot and she stays rock steady on the glide slope. Some pics:
Appr 1.jpg
Appr 2.jpg
Appr 3.jpg
Appr 4.jpg
As you mentioned Sbob it could do with scrape points for the wing tips and tail. Also in view of what Motormouse said should we re-introduce wing sway on taxi :unsure: ?

Haha 9H-FED, there's a good RW story to that one involving colombian drugs.

Meanwhile, Global can actually approach and touch down as low as 90Kts...
