MASH 4077 scenery

No I won't be doing that. It's my position that "stand alone" packages work best for me.

I finished a "beta" version of a Battallion Aide Station this morning as a compliment to the MASH 4077th camp. It's located within short helicopter flying distance from the 4077th.

I plan to have someone test this package for me, however, before I attempt to upload it here at the Outhouse. I hope I learned from the previous experience with the 4077th.

Stay tuned.

Sounds great my friend.....Hope to see it available soon......
I'll title Kimpo as.......Kimpo air base Korean war......
I have added some new scenery objects so I will be adding a few more things to this one....
I hope that Kimpo will do justice to your work on the 4077....

If anyone sees something that looks out of place, please let me know so I can correct it....:salute:

MASH 4077 to Kimpo

OK,

I made a Bell 47 Helo flight from MASH 4077 to Kimpo (Gimpo) and it took me about 20 min at about 105 Knots avg speed.

Gimpo is RKSS and Mash is M001. So using the FSX map I was able to eyball the general direction from MASH to Gimpo.

RKSS in FSX is in a modern mode with static jet airliners on the ramp and private Beechcraft twin recips; Not period correct for 1950's Korea
police action period, But at least I can (for now), get some idea of the ride in and out of the MASH area.

Thanks Randy for a nice scenery area (MASH 4077). This thing has been like Hobo Stew; where folks have contributed things to throw into the pot.
Mighty nice. :salute:

Looking forward to this one. :jump:

Will that be a separate item or incorporated in the Core of MASH 4077 as an update?

Great to hear....So that is one thing I wont need to add.....

I'll Agree to that Randy......Thanks for the great scenery.....Kimpo is just a small addition to what could be produced for this scenery.....
Without what you did my friend, This would not be happening....At least at this time.....

Now we need someone to do the 8063rd....and add a few more aid stations:mixedsmi::salute:

I'm wondering if back during Korea if there were portable NDBs available. Looks like I'm going to have to put one at the Aide station if anybody (well me anyway) is going to be able to find it. I was barely able to find the thing on a flight from the 4077th. Even with GPS. I'm presently messing around with some different tarmac textures under the helicopter pads.

After messing with some of the nav lights, I decided to just go ahead and make white light texture for Gary's Jeep. Here's the results. The projected light is by A2A shockwave lights (haze).

Suicide is painless

Through early morning fog I see
visions of the things to be
the pains that are withheld for me
I realize and I can see...
that suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.
The game of life is hard to play
I'm gonna lose it anyway
The losing card I'll someday lay
so this is all I have to say.

It brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.
The sword of time will pierce our skins
It doesn't hurt when it begins
But as it works its way on in
The pain grows stronger...watch it grin.
suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.
A brave man once requested me
to answer questions that are key
is it to be or not to be
and I replied 'oh why ask me?'
suicide is painless
it brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.
...and you can do the same thing if you please......

I'm pretty sure ADF recievers back then had a wide enough bandwidth and could tune and indicate(via rotating the antenna for signal peak) just about anything that transmitted.
In that situation, RADAR's radio set would be a perfect substitute for a permanent NDB station. I say go for it...Don

Well, I decided to leave the NDB out:pop4: of the scenery. My helicopter doesn't have an ADF radio....Anyway I'm getting ready to upload the project.
Don, I also didn't put the dirt in there either. I just never could get all the elevations to work. We'll just have to use really exceptional dead reackoning navigation and our 20/20 eyeballs.

UPDATE: I just uploaded the file. The aid station is located at R238. I just modified an existing airport.

RD

OK, the Aide Station is uploaded. I hope you'll enjoy it. If you have any problems with it, fuss at FXSTTCB (Don) as he was the "beta tester."

Just joshing you bud..:icon_lol:.

I must give you'll FAIR WARNING.....that aid station is hard to find if you attempt to fly from the 4077th out to it.....

I just started from it and flew around making notes about the roads, headings, etc. Only then was I able to leave the 4077th and find it. Gave this ole man a great deal of satisfaction though.:kilroy:

I bet you in real life it was just as hard to find. I suspect if you didn't already know exactly where it was, you wouldn't likely ever find it.

Considering the Korean War was the last time we didn't always have air superiority over an area, and our ground troops were sometimes attacked by enemy air, that no such aid station would put anything on the ground to make it easier to see. So, this would be a realistic test of chart orientation with terrain to zero in on the area and memorize the terrain.

Cheers,

Ken

I agree with you there Ken. This was true seat of the pants flying and true VFR. Not to get anything started in my own thread but, the real art of VFR flying is a dying skill. Even in flight sim....first thing someone usually complains about is the radios or lack thereof in a period airplane.

OK.....back to hauling the wounded.

Anybody remember what the character's name was that flew the H-13 with the dummy in one of the litters when he only had one patient?
Also do you remember the time that Father Maulcahy flew with him because something happened to the dummy?
