Milton's Howard 500 a fresh look!

Awesometicity! With this new "foundation" will it now be possible to do HD repaints on the HW500 (I hope!)?

sorry about the hole... was firing a 20mm Lahti and had a ricochet...

looking good TuFun, keep up the good work! :salute:

A little practice when the Milton's Ventura arrives... a very quick wip paint job (not complete). Just wanted to see some color on the H-500! ;)

Nice to see the RAAF colours.

UPDATE:

Something new I'm trying, always wanted to know how to create 3d effects on metal. This may work well with those rivets on the engine cowls, but not for flush rivets. I have some ideas on metal wrinkles on some rivet areas. All new stuff to figure out. -TF

Here I need to invert the panel lines, so that appear recessed.

Still need to remove some rivets, like on the door edges and need to add rivets around the windows.

Looks cool, but I believe the rivets should be flush. Plus, still need to determine horizontal rivet pattern. Amazes me that there is no detailed 3d views of this this aircraft.

You actually can't see the rivets until you walk up to the aircraft, how cool is that! This is starting to turn out to be a long process, especially when I'm trying to do this in a virtual world what I see in the real world.

Nice to see the RAAF colours.

Inspired by VH-SFF ("A59-67") "Wiff-Oh" Even thou mine isn't two tone blue, I like the colors on the Ventura PV-1 version!

Thanks Matt, so impressed with your work on the Lockheed's, especially the cockpit, I wanted to do something for the Howard!

I think I've got it... flush rivets... just need to tweak it some more and rivets will be round instead of square. This is just a test pattern.

great shots milton, rivets look to be in a 6-inch grid covering most of the airframe... thats some great resource photos! the lighting is just right for picking up on those kind of details...

Interesting and challenging work TF. Better to do it virtually than like these guys. :)

Perfect!!! Especially the front portion of the fuselage. -TF

Was looking at an R/C site on how they do their scale aircraft.

A reference photo from there...

UPDATE:

As more resources become available, more detail arises! ;)

A better pattern, and where the limitation areas are. More adjustment required, from what I've seen from the pics Milton has provided. The ribs are a big help!

UPDATE:

Well, I thought since I'm upgrading the exterior, I would take a look at the cockpit area. The cockpit is my personal custom design in black leather and accents. I will upgrade the original design to HD standards.

The panel is by Falcon409, just repainted to gunmetal and enhanced the indicator lights panel for more depth.

Some cowling work with a few fasteners. Next step is to added rivets on top and bottom on the fuselage so they will not look stretched as you can see in this pic. Also, align windows and remove the one behind the cockpit (mirrored from the right side).

A closer look at the cowling.

Really nice work there. :)

When you get that detailed, the model shows its age a bit as do the mapping techniques.

I remember in 2005, my computer could barely fly the Howard 500 at 8-12 FPS.
It was also the "heaviest" model and package I had built to date and my computer would not allow me to "show" the whole project in gmax.
I had to limit how much I displayed to work on. LOL

Those limitations for me back then dictated how I mapped, and the format and size of textures.
That is why it seems so dated today.

Have fun. :)
