Milton's Howard 500 a fresh look!

The 3d effect on the fasteners is simply unbelievable. I don't think I have ever seen anything like this.

Cheers
Stefan

Brilliant work :applause:

So realistic it makes me want to grab a screwdriver and check the fasteners:jump:

Pete.

You missed one Pete! ;)

I have been watching this thread and have had my jaw dropped to the floor on many occasions. I have done many "restorations" to older freeware aircraft....mostly Alphasim releases....it's sort of my bread and butter thing to do. But what you are doing with the Howard is far beyond anything I have done. Watching you take Milton's wonderful, yet dated, Howard and bring it to a level of detail and beauty that makes the gal seem like a brand new package......wow!

Thanks Tim. I'm amazed myself how its turning out! It's been almost two months transforming this beauty and almost every day a new technique is applied. It's getting to the point that the stuff I did awhile back almost needs to be redone. The metal work on the cowlings is much better than the wings and fuselage now. I had basic skills when I began this project. The Stearmans I did got me started on transforming those aircraft. If I were to do them today, they would have a different look altogether. I'm looking forward when this project is done, because I myself don't know what the finished aircraft will look like. I constantly trying different techniques working towards realism! -TuFun

Thanks Nigel for your kind words. Your incredible textures on the AV-57 and other models has inspired me to create something close to your work! :salute: You have a beautiful art-form in your textures! :applause:

Made some minor changes to the tires, only issue is the mirroring problem on the right tire... GOOD@YEAR is reversed, but you will not noticed it from afar.

Tufun,

Your work is amazing! May I ask a few questions please? It appears that the pics you are taking are in FSX, is that correct? Also, what size are your painted textures?

Thanks.

The repaints I'm creating are for both versions (FS9@1024,FSX@2048). FSX is what I fly, and affords me to see how the HD textures look on an eight year old model.

Is is possible to transform such a model to a current quality of today's models? I say it's possible. Based on the basic model is of good quality already, such as Milton's Howard 500.

Both these models are FS9 cargo version which are not FSX native, and updated according to Milton's suggestions in this thread.
One is 1024 res and the other is 2048 res.

I will continue to explore more possibilities in designing of better textures, and as you know, this project is still ongoing. If I can in-cooperate something from the real aircraft into a virtual one by using illusion of textures... then that is my goal. I hope all have enjoyed the work thus far. -TuFun

Good to hear TuFun. The reason I was asking about the size of the textures was because I was concerned you were getting that level of detail with something like 4096 x 4096, and by the time you reduced the size to 1024, so much of your amazing details would be lost. But since you are getting that detail with 2048, the loss wont be all that bad.;)

Keep up the great work, and look forward to your completed work.:salute:

TuFun; Thank YOU for your very kind comments - now look who is doing the inspiring - you have so much artistic talent.

You're statement should be the guide to all wishing to make awesome creations:

"I will continue to explore more possibilities..."

THAT is the one, single secret to success Sir!:applause:

yup to keep going, nose yourself outside your own comfort zone each time, even when it plateau's you develop new techniques for doing things, as Nigels daughter tells me; "just keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep going" words i've come to live by in recent months...

great work, keep it up! i'm no expert with FS Textures by a long means but if you ever have any Q's don't hesitate to give me a shout, always happy to assist/advise where i can :salute:

Oi, Matt! Now you're putting yourself down!
What about your 'live online tutorials', a great idea - making me want to join the paint shed!
How many of your paint jobs have I downloaded...? Too many to count!

As for TuFun, wow, just pure admiration - jumping in the deep end with your first projects!
It is not only fun, but also educational to be able to follow the progress.
You are certainly an inspiration for myself, and future wannabe painters, showing what can be achieved.

Thanks, Stuart

yeah, am already warming my throat up as i have one planned from about 1500GMT until about 2200GMT... trying to decide on an aircraft to use to walk and talk through on... probably one of A.F.Scrubs many planes... they're simple enough for the new folk to practice and develop things on...

Which programs / applications are required?
I would be a shame to get stuck if the software is not available and needed acquiring or downloading ...

Edit: Sent a PM request to Matt - I don't like the idea of hijacking the purpose of this thread... :)
