Milton's Howard 500 a fresh look!

Oi, Matt! Now you're putting yourself down!
What about your 'live online tutorials', a great idea - making me want to join the paint shed!
How many of your paint jobs have I downloaded...? Too many to count!

As for TuFun, wow, just pure admiration - jumping in the deep end with your first projects!
It is not only fun, but also educational to be able to follow the progress.
You are certainly an inspiration for myself, and future wannabe painters, showing what can be achieved.

Thanks, Stuart

Jump in Stu! - the water's fine.

For anyone contemplating texturing: there are plenty of good friends here willing to help interested folk get started.

Don't wan't to post on the threads? Go PM!

Never be afraid of making mistakes - THAT'S when we know we're learning.

It may be an idea to start up a thread solely to help people on with their texturing questions.
Anyone could jump in with their ideas and there should be something for all to learn from.

As Matt boldly stated; "I'm no expert",
Well said, that makes two of us - the 'expert' bit gets too much in the way of the learning proccess.

So let's take example from TuFun's most wise observation:

"continue to explore more possibilities..."

Which programs / applications are required?
I would be a shame to get stuck if the software is not available and needed acquiring or downloading ...

Edit: Sent a PM request to Matt - I don't like the idea of hijacking the purpose of this thread... :)

i'll be using photoshop and Model Converter X mostly, but the principles are the same for most graphics softwares... if i can locate my copy of psp i might load that up also... so many tools...:icon_lol:

Wow... awesome responses and please do hijack, enjoy the camaraderie from you all!!! Nigel, Matt, Duckie, JanKees, and many others, who create some of the best repaints, got me start in repainting aircraft. Always looking forward to the next incarnation of artistry you guys come up with!!! :salute:

When it comes to software used, I do have Photoshop S5, but all the work done thus far is in Paint.net with plugins. -TuFun

Lol, see what you've started, TuFun!

"Got me start in repainting aircraft", he says.
Well you're way up tops on the learning curve, that's all I can say.

Be proud of your progress - you justly deserve it.
You obviously know your way around aircraft and it's admirable that you take the trouble to research/observe details.

If you can make the step, at some stage, to Photoshop, do so - you'll be richly rewarded with it's awesome capabilities.

Photoshop is still arguably the penultimate paint program available, and is the longtime choice of most professional designers/illustrators/photographers.

Started riveting the window framing. Front view is straight forward, but the sides needs some massaging due to warping. Also, looked at the wheel wells, nothing I can do there, would have been nice to texture that area.

"Paint.net with plugins"?

What plugins please and where? Im very interested as I have been playing around in paint.net with Milton's dash 7 trying to Canadian North it. What can I say I have a thing for fictional and besides Milton's Dash 7 is my favorite Milton and team creation.

Well Sir, you have done amazing things with a very old mesh created at a time when I was still trying to cope with learning curves and a very slow computer so my hat is off to you for making this look a lot better than it is. :)

Sorry about those wheel wells ... my realistic view is the only way to see in there normally is with a powered light, flash, or to land her on her top unless you do a lot of 60 degree banked turns with gear deployed. :)

Awesome work you are doing there TuFun. :applause:

Hopefully the new release will bode well with you then Sir. :wiggle:

errm.... whoops! :icon_lol: only 60 degree banked turns? i've been taking her to in excess of 110 degrees to get onto an approach :icon_lol: get slow, get everything down, idle the ole' girl and (nearly) play 'Stuka'... i'm certain Milton has posted recce teams around my test field perimeter :kilroy:

Under "Help" menu in Paint.net program click on "Plugins". You will see a bunch of plugin packs that's available.

BoltBait's Plugin Pack and MadJik all plugins are the ones I have. Blur, smudge, cloud, grid, emboss, and relief are the main ones I use.

Don't be, I'm just dreaming and just looking at all angles and possibilities. When I see the kind of artistry at Military-Meshes.com, I would wonder if It's possible to reproduce at least something of that caliber of painting for FS models.

I wanted to give the Howard at least the same quality as the current Lockheed "Rounder" models.

Back to the wheel wells, this pic got me thinking about the wells, or at least the inner door panels. Those holes would look cool!

That's ok, the MS flight sim engine allows a lot of aircraft to do things that the real ones cannot. :icon_lol:

110 degrees of bank...why not, if you don't try to maintain airspeed and altitude....you can bank a J3 cub like that ;) I do agree however as real as it gets does not always apply to flight dynamics in FS and even if ultimate care has been applied in creating the specific ones for one aircraft....there still are limitations of the old FS physics engine that let us get away with things the real one simply could not do.

Cheers
Stefan

The Esc key is always a great comfort, especially near the bottom of that classic manouvre known as the,"auger."
