Weather and Wind in ETO
1.2 contains new weather files for mission building.
Variable weather
There are several new variable weather files that make the weather change from one location to another. The MB can select from England, foggy, cloudy or rain with France Clear, or England Clear and France with bad weather. Italy and Corsica have variable weather as well.
Specialty Mission Weather
Operation Leader and Operation Dragoon have variable weather that changes from the area of the task force to the target area. The weather features wind for carrier launches of sufficient strength to launch a fully loaded Hellcat or Tarpon with no wind present in the target area. The mission builder can use these mission templates and delete other items and keep the localized wind to make entirely new missions for carrier escort missions, convoy cover and anti sub patrols and have the wind available for carrier launches.
Carrier Wind and runway Crosswinds
1.2 provides the MB with 4 preset wind weather files for use in doing carrier missions and crosswind takeoff and landing missions. These weather files are labeled
Low Cumulus Wind 3
Low Cumulus Wind 6
Low Cumulus Wind 12
Low Cumulus Wind 20
This wind will be present in the entire mission and is not localized. This wind is all blowin from 270 degrees. To plan carrier takeoffs simply select one of the drop deck carriers and face it on a heading of 270 with the speed at .01 for the first and 2nd WP. You can then place your player aircraft on the deck for a carrier takeoff at mission start. The mission must be edited in notepad to put the aircraft at zero speed and altitude.
Crosswind takeoffs and landings can be achieved by selecting airfields with the desired runway headings IE a runway heading of 360/180 will generate a 90 degree crosswind. You can make your own wind weather file by simply taking one of these files open it in notepad and change the wind headng and strength. Be sure and change the subtitle located in the xnml file as well as the exterior file name. the wind will be 180 degrees reversed from the heading in the file. A heading of 090 in the wind file generates a wind coming from 270 degrees. Be sure and upload the new wind file with your mission.
