Netwings?

So Netwings is gone? I have so many good memories from the days when their CFS2 forum was the most active on the net. It is almost like losing an old friend whom I had not seen for ages. Who remembers now the endless bickering about the way such aircraft should behave in flight and how to better render it in CFS2? Was the 1% really accurate or not? All the 1% evolution, the slow process of redoing the flight model after each new version on the excel spreadsheet? Who remembers the heated discussion about the best paint job on such or such a plane? And the ever arguing Bruno Duffort who would say the opposite of everyone else just for the sake of arguing? Sometime it was tedious, but all these discussions really made CFS2 better.
All this was before a thread that almost turned into a street fight after sept 11. That's when a lot of people (probably fed up with the political arguments, like me) left more or less definitely for the out-house.
Of course, all this was before real life caught up with me (you know, a job, a wife, a family, a house, and all these time demanding hobbies that still keep me away from flying my PC....)
If Netwings is gone for good, I really find it sad.
Having said that, I think I have a copy of all the different mossie versions somewhere on a CD. If somebody's still interested, I probably can upload them here.

And that's why I like it when the political threads here get locked or moved to Oso's. ;) The post-9/11 fighting was really destructive to NetWings. If it doesn't come back up, I wonder if the download library could be packaged up and moved to another website. Was Neil still running it???

You and me both, pburnage - I remember it well. It was a shame.

Hi all

That was the time of the political misunderstanding that the time and the way of the History have shaded off, I hope ...
Bruno Duffort was surely not a adept of the policy correct way :karate: but by his ,sometime surely irritable, exacting level about all the aspect ,planes ,texture ,sceneries etc.... of the MS flightsims all these advices and tips that he shared has given for us french addons makers the directions to take for all that we produce today I think particulary about the Brunosk Spit V ,that was a challenge to replace the already hight level BR2spit V,that finally give a better plane than the original Br2 spit V that disapear with all the br2 planes to dwld for the community for some obscure reasons that i've not completly understand ,perhaps about the french fries ,let's remember, the french or liberty fries that was the big question in this troubled times that take many hours of talk show on foxnews tv with all the expertise guest etc... ,anyway the question was faked ,the fries are belgians for ever :d

I remember a Netwing's CFS2 member by the name of Hawkeye, he was there all of the time. There were others who helped me a lot back in the early days, wish they'd come around and say hi once in a while.

Jean, I had forgotten all about the "french fries" ranting. :d And your description of Bruno Duffort is very accurate. Too bad he left flight sim, the BR2 planes still look good after 8 years.
I remember Hawkeye, IIRC Revolutionary War re-enacting was another of his hobbies. Another good guy was Jeff "Ranger" Hendricks whom I exchanged e-mails with a few times. Lotta good folks, some of them have since come over here and that's good. :)

Your offer to upload your Mossies is gratefully received pburnage!

I'm sure there will be plenty of interest from those hereabouts that don't have them secreted away!:ernae::wavey:

I suggest contacting netwings admin. If they are closing down the site I'm sure they will be pleased to share the data with others.

You can do a whois at networksolutions.com and find out the owner of the domain and go from there.

http://www.networksolutions.com/whois-search/netwings.org

Like most of you I have all the 1% files and several CDS full of downloads that go back probably 10 years.

It would take a half day to just sort through the stuff.

I'm sure most of it is up right now here at SOH. This site has always been a great resource site.

It is a real test of your resolve to rebuild after your site gets hacked a few times.

I've been admin on avsims.com for several years, and we've been hacked often. We just shut down the forums and downloads and all elements that allowed users to upload data onto the site.

We only have some articles about Il2 mission building now, and that is probably going to be the extent of it. It takes so much time to maintain a competent site like this one. Little things can grow into huge time wasters.

Until governments intervene and start prosecuting hackers and crackers with some real enforcement it remains a cat and mouse game. The game isn't fun, because human beings are very resourceful. Heck, I don't know if a brain surgeon or rocket scientist is smart enough to keep a site from being hacked.

We have tried and found out Neil owns 6 domains 2 are on the same server as Netwings. It seems all the domains on the Netwings Server are dead. The server IP won't resolve so either the server is loocked-up, off or just disconnected from the DNS.

We found several email addresses for Neil but most were associated with his domains and just bounce back with a no mail server error. The other email address we had for him also bounce with a no username known error.

Neil has been battling several serious health problems and just may be unavailable or in the Hospital and can't reboot a locked-up server.

Hopefully Neil is OK and just MIA for a few weeks.

I think there is a physical address and phone number on whois. It would not be out of line to make further inquires, especially if he is in bad health.

By that I mean just to tell him of our concerns for his welfare and hope he gets well soon.

On a side note.. I remember moving a DNS once and they locked out the site for 90 days. What a nuisance. I don't recall all the issues, but it was a major thing... which we thought was a "nothing to it".

D'accord, mon ami

Hawkeye was a good dude - fellow South Carolinian! I've often wondered what he's up to.

I remember Hawkeye's P-40B. One of the first aircraft I ever installed in to CFS2.

I hope netwings isn't gone. I remember when it used to be CFS2Online (remember that?:wavey:)

A lot of good designers have gone over time. Bruno D was an interesting sort. I never really understood why he left. He made several aircraft. I still fly his P-38J and L along with his Yak-9 U, T, and P-40C. Sure they are a little long tooth in years, but the way he modeled them is fantastic. I especially liked the added gun information on his Yak-9T.

Paul Burnage is another person someone here mentioned. I have always wished he would have updated his Tempest as he did with his Typhoon. But his Tempest is still a gem as are all of this Mossis. I fly them just as I fly Bruno's.

Hi all.

4 days ago I asked both on the 1% forum, and emailed Bear to get permission to host the CFS2 1% files at SOH... no reply, yet.
