New C47 from Manfred Jahn

Manfred, you are a plane designer. Par excellence. I just went through a rivet count on your C-47 and cannot fault it in any way.
Small things that most people will ignore from the air speed venturi tube on the port side to the bobbed tail that C-47s had in order to tow gliders. Most put the pointed tail on the C-47 that only appeared on the DC-3s. You even have an unlocked tail wheel. I am truly impressed! You are the master.

In Virtual Cockpit view you are unlikely to see much if anything unless you zoom out a bit and/or move forward a bit (Ctrl-Backspace) and then use the hatswitch to pan around. Yes, I wish it were more natural but as far as I can tell I am battling against a modeling restriction here.

Helldiver, thanks for that comment. One user has pointed out that the cockpit window frames had too much of an angle on them, and he may have been right.

Just to add one more detail that often gets neglected, but (no surprise!) is depicted correctly here:
The small trim tab on the starboard only aileron!
Some of the "earlier" MAAM models show trim tabs on both sides, due to mirrored aileron textures.
 
This really is an amazing C-47 and it's freeware! The new cockpit textures really spruce up the tired looking stock FSX VC textures. This just gets better and better. :jump:

Also really like your continued support and tweaks on the Connie and now looks like the C-47 too.

I'm reminded about a trip I took from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Atlanta via Florida Airlines with my wife. The plane was an ex C-47. The pilot wore sneakers which I pointed out to my wife. I told her the only way to get on board was to walk up on the wing. She believed me and then decided that Florida Airlines was not for her. It wasn't until they opened the door and put down the boarding ladder, then she changed her mind. I wonder if Florida Airlines still exists?
I can remember the Gaslight Service that Mohawk Air Lines ran from Albany to Boston in ex C-47s. Beautiful hostesses in Gay Nineties costumes.
 
I just uploaded new textures for Manfred's Douglas C-47.

The textures represent one of the aircrafts used to ferry home from Russia some of the French personel and crewmen which were part of the Normandie-Niemen Regiment, at the end of WWII. This is a C-47B-25-DK from the unit : GC IV/2 "Ile de France", Armée de l'air, Serial; 4 (44-76283), Le Bourget, France, June 1945... :medals:

Contrary to my habit of weathering war time planes on the plus side rather than less, I refrained and respected the profile which showed a pristine painted C-47 with festive markings. Victory stars and Kremlin stars adorn the fuselage, underwings and tails. I might have fallen again to the "urge" if it had been a locally built LI-2 (Lisunov), but that's another story...:icon_lol:

Marvin's VC textures are just the ticket for this lady and the inside matches well the outside dress.

One of the pics attached represents the Normandie-Niemen flag Regiment with all the battle honours that have been won by this Regiment.

Sadly, Florida Air Lines went out of business in 1980.

Now that's the Florida Air Lines I knew and loved. My wife and I got stuck on an overbooked flight on Delta from Fort Lauderdale. Apparently there were eleven others that got stuck. Since the next flight wasn't until 5:30 Delta gave us a free ride on Florida Airlines. This is the plane we flew in and you can see it's C-47 heritage with the bobbed tail. I'd love to see this colorful aircraft to fly in FSX.

A long time ago when I was a kid I took a flight from Cedar Rapids to Chicago on an Ozark DC-3. I remember it was an experience being my first flight in an airplane. I think we landed at every small town with an airport along the way, more like a bus trip than an airline flight.

Back around 1962 I rode in a Navy R4D from New Jersey to Mildenhall, UK. The plane was on the
way to the Mediterranean with a group of Navy SeaBee's and their equipment. I was just grabbing
a ride OTW to meet my ship in Portsmouth, England.

I recall that the loadmaster came around asking everyone how much they weighed. When he got to
me I replied, "oh, about 130 pounds". He shot back, "Not 'about'..how much, exactly?" :)

I also remember seeing daylight through the rear cargo door after it had been closed. It was
very cold enroute and the only warmth we had was coffee warmed in a plug-in electric pot.

The co-pilot was a Chief Petty Officer.

For the life of me I can't remember the exact route we took but we probably made stops
in Newfoundland and Iceland. Possibly Greenland as well. We made a stop in Prestwick, Scotland
before our arrival at Mildenhall. From there I took a train into London and spent a week or so there
waiting for my ship to arrive from a Northern Europe tour. My sole duty during that period was to
check in at the US Embassy every morning at 10 am. The rest of the day was spent carousing
around town and hitting a pub or two...or three :)

There were a great number of Aviation Pilots (non commssioned) in the Navy. They mostly flew multi-engined aircraft, princibly for the Navy Air Transport Command (NATC) the founder of the MATC. They also flew R5-D, PBYs and PBMs. We had a twenty year vet in our barracks that was a second class Aviation Pilot. He had broke his rank many times.

Great Work Marvin and Manfred - one of the first things i have done after start with FSX is to roll the Stock DC-3 into the Hangar and close his doors - now it has come back to Life - fantastic !!
