PMDG 737 NGX released!

ROFLMAO:: +1 ::LOL::

That sounds like a fun error to figure out. We totally need a new sim engine...

Flew almost 4 hours tonight without any issues, cold n dark to cold n dark. :mixedsmi:

Just like Oregon right now.. Cold and Dark ::lol:: j/K..:)

They may be right.. out of some thirty flights i've done in this thing since it was released, I just had my first successful flight.. The difference was that before flying, I reduced the texture size from 4096x4096 ( the default size ) to 2048x2048. Thats the only change i made. I'm gonna run a few more test flights tomorrow as i'm not quite ready for the big Eureka yet, and we'll see how it goes..

Just made my 1st complete LNAV flight CYYZ to CYFB. Went real good and as always I do my own landing, the heck with the autoland.

When I got a reply from Ryan, he said that whatn they are looking at is the possibility that some of us with massive video setups and SLI are4 seeing issues with graphics memory being re-mapped to main memory and running FSX out of memory..

Yes, if you are running SLI on 32-bit Windows that would explain it. Be sure to get a 64-bit version the next time you upgrade :)

NGX OS Recommendation...

Hi Pam, et. al. - Check page 11 of the Introduction pdf -

"Choose a modern, 64bit Operating System: We strongly recommend that users run their simulator from a 64bit operating system. The best operating system currently available (at time of writing) for FSX is Windows 7 64bit. The advanced memory management capabilities of modern operating systems are far superior when running complex simulations such as the PMDG 737NGX."

If you're trying to run the NGX on Win32, you will run into problems! I'm using Win7-64, and I have not had the problems you are experiencing....the only problems I've had were occasional panel freezes, which seem to have been cured by hotfixes 2 & 3. (They happened using the EFIS/MAP DU layout...probably because of the added graphical strain over the PFD/ND style. Also, one freeze happened when I had to change an arrival RW & STAR. All happened prior to hotfixes). AP disconnect returns full control to me through CH yoke and pedals.

The only odd thing I'm experiencing now is the loss of the lower DU functionality when selecting the EFIS/MAP/side-by-side config - I cannot get the SYS page to display in the lower DU. (This may actually be how the real NG is, though. A couple of years ago when Southwest was still using the EFIS/MAP config, I asked a Captain about it, and she replied that SWA didn't use the lower DU. They switched over to the PFD/ND display in April 2010 to give them full RNP capability). So, it may be a moot point if the lower DU is not used with that "older" config. I did submit a ticket about it two days ago, though.

I hope you can get your difficulties sorted out, because the airplane is absolutely incredible....best airliner for FS that I've ever flown, hands down! (And I've flown all the rest - Level D, Ariane, iFly's NG, CS, PMDG744 & MD11, FT 733-4-5, etc).

Good Luck!

I think i miscommunicated something somewhere.. I'm running 64 bit windows 7 Ultimate.. Its FSX thats still 32 bit.. And i have goit to admit. I own all those others as well. Like you say, so far, this plane is better than any of them.. OH, and resizing the textures appears to have worked :)..

Oh, ok...glad you got it working with the resized textures! :salute: (yeah, too bad FSX is 32 and not 64!)

I havent tried it with weather on yet, but i suspect that now that i know what directions to move in, I can handle it..

I successfully completed my first EGKK -> EHAM tutorial flight up until a head on collision with a 747 taking off from 36L, opposite direction of my assigned 18R landing runway... :banghead:

I mean, what's the fun in meticulously programming the FMC for half an hour, sit in the ( extremely beautifully rendered ! :applause: ) cockpit and watch the aircraft fly the route, take over the controls at 2 miles from the threshold, perform a perfectly greased landing only to end up in a bowl of flames....

I mean, if you want to fly a programmed route you can forget about ATC and AI as well, right ? I.e. be all alone up there again, like with FSII ....

Don't get me wrong, i think the PMDG 737NGX is THE most exquisite airliner model ever produced for FS, i just can't see the fun in having to revert back to FS when ATC and AI were just blimps on the virtual horizon.

Cheers,
Jan

I think theres a utility out there that vectors AI away from you.. But yeahh,, its a real PITA when FS does that to you..

I think theres a utility out there that vectors AI away from you..

I believe that's true, yes. If only some FS wizard outthere could make ATC be aware of SID's and STAR's... fat chance i guess.... To quote Jack Walsh in Midnight Run " looks like i'm walking... " :running:

I think RADAR CONTACT deals with this kind of situation.

Absolutely. Used it a few years ago but i can't do with these computerized voices anymore. It's a great program though but no AI neither...

Cheers,
Jan
