Rise of Flight, anybody?

I did say I wasn't going to post here again, after the recent scuffle, but something about this thread keeps drawing me back...

...like my score finally reaching 5:1 - I got a Spad using a Fokker D.VII! :wiggle::wiggle::wavey:

I love this game. It kills me a lot, but I love it. I can certainly see me parting with money very soon for the SE5a.

I have yet to shoot someone down... arrgh.. :banghead:

But! I always have a blast flying in it. One night, after 2 long, drawn out dogfights with AI German planes, I took a brake out in the night sky and relaxed.. My hand was all twitchy and cramped up, lol... Heart was racing.. Man....

How about that little town? Is that cool or what?

By the way, I downloaded that Fokker Dr1 Tri-Plane for FSX from this game group. What a great little plane. Flies like the ones in ROF, lol.. All over the place. No trim, arrgh..

Did these guys make their own game engine, or is this FSX?

I absolutely love this game! I have spent more time on it in the last couple weeks than I have with FS in a long time!

It's their own sim engine, as far as I can see - it certainly isn't FSX.

Unfortunately the only mission I've tried so far for the Allied side is the Rickenbacker 5 on 1 mission. Unsurprisingly, I didn't survive.

It would be cool if you could go out and explore the country for a while. Some great scenery. Wouldnt be cool if you could turn off the attacking AI for a bit?

Just temporarily, lol... (Dont throw tomatos at me).

:kilroy:

you can do that - I do it all the time...just select 'mission' then - freefly - then your plane type - then 'takeoff' then 'freeflight'

now you can just takeoff and fly around - no enemy planes

Awesome! Many thanks Heywooood.

Ive wanted to take these planes up and just get used to them, lol.. Hard to do while being shot at.

your welcome Bill - that's what I use this setting for also - getting used to the planes..enjoying the scenery and self-shadowing - and flying under bridges and a whatnot.

you really get a nice FSX kind of experience this way and....

there are trains and cars below, if you can spot them, that you can practice your strafing and bombing on if you want to as well.

That's what I just got doing with the Se5, loaded up the bombs and put it on unlimited ammo and just practiced bombing runs, fun as heck! I think this and the Fokker are my favorite for flying and fighting, right now anyway, LOL, at under 8 bucks a plane, it's a steal IMO with the quality you are receiving. :ernae:

Well, I just ended my first SE5a career... Forced landing the first mission after being shot up by a recon aircraft (mission failed), then scored four artillery pieces (bombs) and a truck (guns) on the second before making one too many strafing runs a few feet too low. Crump. Clatter. Screeech!

Oh. Nuts. You're not supposed to ram the trucks, are you? :isadizzy:

I'll start another character when I get back from real world aviating tomorrow. Weather permitting. :engel016:

Unlike FSX, since you cannot easily edit the aircraft or game config settings, you are forced to actually fly and enjoy the sim as opposed to endlessly tweeking it.
Some jaggies, deal with it. Shadows with big pixels. Oh well.
I still enjoy FSX but the days of me yanking my hair out, buying $400 video cards and endlessly tweaking to achieve that holy grail are over.

This is a very frustrating yet rewarding sim that still needs some work. I think the hardcore crowd will stick with it but newbies will become discouraged and drop it. I sat behind a enemy plane a hosed him down with lead for a solid 15 seconds yet only a small piece of debri came off. He got behind me and in one quick burst I was dead. This a happened many times.
I think once a internal joystick program is added, the ai continues to be improved,a better campaign and a few other issues, SOF will continue to grow.

I agree, both on the $400.00 graphics cards, (lolol... ) and the hosing down of bullets on planes and they just keep on flying.

It would be nice if the guys at this gaming studio added a 'beginners' mode or easy mode or level for guys like me so I can finally shoot something down, lololol...

Great game otherwise.

I've had a hard time shooting AI down too lately, I see lots of pieces and parts flying off but the sucker keeps trucking along and then he gets behind me and a couple of bursts I'm seeing the dreaded red eye of death, LOL :monkies:

I was having some trouble but have since reduced my gun convergence to 84m (about 240') and am again able to do serious damage to the enemy...when I can close in on him that is.

Thinking of going to 50 meters....hmmm
