Thank you, Priller. Yeah, having seen your PC specs and others here and in other MSFS forums, I decided on a completely new PC. I was going to wait until later this year, but I don't usually have all that much time for flight simming from September through May, so I thought I would enjoy it now while I still have another five weeks of time off work. I just got up and running with it yesterday, and after making sure things were setup properly to my liking (factory limits on CPU and memory, the latest drivers, and ensuring that the system is using all cores of the CPU), I couldn't be happier with the results. Flying over New York City at full 4K resolution, default Ultra settings, DLSS Quality anti-aliasing and Frame Generation turned on, the FPS top 100 at times and rarely dip much below 90 - the lowest I've seen is 63 FPS when touching down at JFK, but never a stutter or lock-up. It's crazy to see the CPU usage is only about 10% at the highest and GPU usage about 65% at the highest, and both running 60-64C temps at the warmest, when flying in the heart of NYC. Incredible the difference it has made with VR as well, compared to my previous PC (i9 9900K/RTX 2800).

I've had the 182RG for a while now, but never flown it much. I'd forgotten why until I climbed in today and remembered that the default eye position felt like I was about five feet tall. So I opened it up and to my delight, found that the camera.cfg is editable. So after a little trial and error, I managed to get the default eye point about equivalent to the default stuff. If you want to do the same thing, open up the file and in the [CAMERADEFINITION.0] section, change InitialXyz = 0, -0.030, -0.154 to InitialXyz = 0, 0.030, -0.154. All you're doing is removing the negative sign from the second coordinate, essentially raising the view up 0.060 whatevers (meters maybe?).

Anyway, I took a flight from Dunkirk to London city by way of Dover to check out the cliffs after the new update. Gotta say, I'm impressed. Last time I flew over them, they were abysmal. The flight was in real time late evening, so the sun was directly in front of me, but I altered the time long enough to get a better shot before reverting back.
Edit - I now have two lines edited. One to jack up my seat and one so that I'm not looking down so much.

Original:
InitialXyz = 0, -0.030, -0.154
InitialPbh = -10.459, 0, 0

New
InitialXyz = 0, 0.030, -0.154
InitialPbh = -2.0, 0, 0

Thanks for that, Mr. Clayton. I have grown tired of having to manually adjust my eyepoint every time I fly the 182RG. This worked a treat.

which monitor are you using with the new rig John?

I'm still using my 4K 43" Roku TV, which works really well (gaming mode on, there's no latency issues, and tuned to display very closely to a PC monitor). Very affordable compared to a comparative monitor, and is very convenient to be able to switch over to streaming when I want. The native resolution is 3840 x 2160, and the PC actually performs better at that resolution than it does when lowered. The only draw back is that it's 60 Hz, so despite the system constantly providing higher frame rates, the most I actually see of course is 60.

Having been so absorbed with the CAS Piper J3 and Taog Huey, my equally-admired FlyingIron '109 has been hangared for at least a few months now. I decided to pull it out of hibernation this morning and take a couple flights from Duxford to Old Warden and back to Dux. I put a lot of hours on this aircraft last summer, and it feels right at home to be at the controls again.

Nice shots Ferry_vO! Personally I'm kinda partial to the low viz schemes, but as we say in French "Les gouts et les couleurs..."

John, those shots of yours are pure art!

Having some issues with my rig, but a couple of mates are coming over tomorrow morning to sort them. Haven't built a rig myself in years, so I need help from hardware gurus, but that's sorted. More than likely it's the cooler and cooling paste that need some TLC.

Cheers,

Priller

Thank you, Priller. I hate to hear your PC is out of commission and I hope it's back up and running well again soon! I've seen so many cautionary YouTube videos over the past couple weeks that I haven't been able to be fully relaxed yet using my PC - I keep regularly checking of all of the temperatures almost expecting something to go awry, but so-far so good (knock on wood, and all fingers, toes and limbs crossed).
