Brian / others .... Opinions about the Velocity. Thanks.

I just picked it up on the JustFlight sale, so I've only flown it about about 2 hours, but I like it. Good systems depth, and pretty (I love a good Rutan-inspired design). It's not up to the level of Black Square's newer releases, but it's quite good. The flight dynamics feel believable to me (no idea if they're accurate). It has interesting flight characteristics (don't get too slow on approach -- this stalls nose first), and I'll have to get used to not having flaps. You also have to make sure to follow the checklist for startup. I think I'll be flying it a lot. IMO, well worth the $22 I paid, and I think it's even worth the full price.

Another Velocity query... I like to get a flight set up and then step away for a few minutes to do things like laundry or whatever. The TBM has automatic tank switching, and planes like the 172/182 pull from both at the same time. How is fuel handled in this one?

I like to do the same thing -- flying while getting some work done makes the work less . . . well, work.

Here's a quote from the manual:

"This Velocity XL build is equipped with two upgraded wing fuel tanks with 46 US Gallon each, totaling 92 US Gallons. Fuel flow can be turned on or off to each tank by red valve handles marked “L” and “R” on the center console, in front of the throttle quadrant. Fuel balance is maintained manually by actuation of these valves. When both valves are open, fuel will gravity feed into a 4 Gallon header tank located behind the aft cabin bulkhead, and will be used at similar rates from both tanks, though variations may occur depending on flight conditions."

In the two flights I've made so far (each just over an hour), I had both tanks open and had no imbalance issues. The "header tank" seems to work just fine. Be aware that only 87 gallons of the 92 are actually usable, just like IRL, according to the manual.

That's different terminology, but the same theory that the 172 uses - thanks. I think I might just have to get this one - I've been looking for something different with a kick to it!
