SOH Team Project - Grumman Tracker, Trader, Tracer

Hey Milton, Duckie, et al - I included Al, as you can see - everyone associated with this project has done magnificent work on every aspect of it they've touched, no exaggeration. On a larger, metaphysical scale this is proving people can still perform in a truly outstanding manner for the love of something other than money!
:salute:

I have a question for our planners and project managers. If you explained this in the past, and I am "re-asking" about it, I apologize for my slackness. Somewhere in the dim recesses of my memory I recall seeing photos of S2Fs with a small "football" radome on a pylon above and behind the cockpit. For some reason the USN aircraft with this accessory were, in my memory, in dark blue overall meaning they were early S2Fs.. I know foreign S2Fs had them also. Are these being considered, or is this radome/pylon a possible later attachment?

The S2F-1 to which you refer is being done by Jan Visser. If all goes as planned, it may well be the best of the brood.

E-1B's for Enterprise

Duckie, Any chance that you might consider one of Enterprises E-1B's squadron for a texture? VAW-12 Det 65 flew from her for a number of cruises from August 3, 1962 thru Feb 8th 1964. VAW-11 Det M embarked for the final E-1B cruise in Oct 26, 1965. Bill

I'll look into it, Bill. No Promises 'cuz I already have 2 picked out but let me compare and see what I come up with.

VS-24, sister squadron to VS-27 on the same cruises together aboard USS Yorktown, 1965 - 1969. Upload tomorrow night.

Hey Duckie!...not so fast - just wanna say thanks!

I originally wanted to post these pics of gratitude on Monday, alas issues with my internet.

Okay, I'll come clean;

It's been months since last flying these awesome birds - its just a result of trying to keep ahead of other project schedules.
Most of my Grummans were original 'Milton Blues' the untextured dev. models used for building the soundsets.
(yes Gentlemen, so far, you only have half the story - the turbo birds are yet to be released).

Anyway, I've kept my 'aiming eye' on the texture developments of all you talented texture artists and have every intention of savouring this impressive array of paint-schemes.

So Steve 'Duckie' has imaginatively put us on the Yorktown circa 1969.
Sometime during that year, USS Yorktown made a tour of the 'Med'
with primetime spent participating in exercises in the Aegean.

Here are some pics of one of the events which follows;

A pair of HAF regulars are sent to sniff out a contact near the Mt Athos peninsular.
The SLUFS were the nearest available aibornes and radar had already concluded that the intruder was a slow flying multi-engined aircraft.

"Hey Matt look at that cheeky flyer just showing up here, unannounced!"

"Yeah...looks like a U.S Navy bird...what's he doing so far North - thought they were on exercises down near Crete!"

"Think I'll take a closer look at this guy - hey they do really nice paint jobs on their ships"

"'Afternoon' Navy Bird...need any assistance"...
"Hey! wait a minute...'Duckie!...Steve buddy, is that really you?"

"Sure looking good, if I may say so!"

"Yeah! You guessed! That's 'you-know-who' checkin you out inverted!"

Time for an ouzo and a breeze?...

"Good - just follow us down."

"Choose your parking Duckie - just make sure its where we get plenty of eye-candy buddy!" :wavey:

Really glad you like the Stoofs Guys. :salute:

I'm truly enjoying painting them and flying them.

Great little illustrated vignette, Nigel! :applause::applause:, reminiscent of an updated Terry and the Pirate episode! :icon_lol: You should put pen to paper (fingers to keyboard?) and sell that stuff! :icon_lol: Can't wait to see the next one.

PS - Matt, that Short Little Ugly Fellow(s) looks really good in it's natural environment!

Does Jan's announcement (referenced in another thread) mean the end of the S2F-1?

Apparently this is the S2F-1 with the roof-mounted football aerial Milton mentioned a few entries back. No reason to doubt Jan's word re: his actions, so unless he finishes what he's currently working on before he takes what we all hope is a sabbatical rather than making a clean break, someone's going to have to finish what sounds like a first-rate job in the making.

With all due respect... THAT will be a hard act to follow....:salute:
