Solomons ETO Updates for 2009

Steve any chance we will see that Catalina thats floating around somewhere?

Hey Lewis,

Sadly I don't think so. The PBY that has ben floating around a long time has a host of problems with it and would require doing all over from scratch to make it usable. The main problem with it is poly counts that are off the chart that clobber your FPS, it also has a lot of other problems as well.

It is one of my favorite aircraft but we may never see it in ETO or PTO.

Steve

You can learn to make these planes. I takes time, time, and yes more time. get gmax and start. :friday:

"get gmax" -- where from? I see a vague rumour that it is included with FS2004... if this is correct, I'll happily go out and buy one of the conveniently discounted FS2004 packages that seem to be around at the moment :) Can anyone confirm that FS2004 will include what I need?

Drop in at the Aircraft Design and Animation forum here at SOH for help in getting started. It's not easy..... :welcome:

To let you know that not only Pat is :typing: like crazy but all the ACC members are trying their hardest to bring you new and improved airfields to enhance your simming experience. WIP screenies below are from Matching Green airfield, a class 'A' bomber airfield depicted as occupied by the 391st Bomber Group (9th AF), flying B-26s (the Hurri is just for lack of driveable Willeys ;) ):

BTW: if there is a skinner around willing to do a 391st stand-alone, by all means...

Other ACC airfields will include Christchurch (fighter), Halesworth (bomber), Leiston (fighter), Stoke Orchard (OTU and Glider training) and Winkleigh (in order of appearance below). Again, screenies are WIP!

One of the reasons for choosing these airfields is that they represent almost the entire gamma of possible airfield constructions; PSP, concrete loop style hardstands, mixed loop- and frying pan hardstands, protected and unprotected dispersals and grass runways.

Note however that inclusion in the March update is not guaranteed. All depends on the time I can devote to this work (and it's a lot!!). But some day you will be taking off from these... Enjoy!

Joost,

What great screenshots, without a doubt the ACC airfields are the backbone of the ETO install. The work you guys have done is incredible in detail and realism. I spend way too much time taxing around the different airfields and driving thru the hangars. I had the same problem over in Solomons when instead of working I spent too much time flying around looking at Bob's Islands.

As Bravo4 states it so well

"Keep Em Coming"

Hey Frosty

You of ACC Team are airfields artists for sure :faint::woot:
There are no words to describe your marvelous work !

Cheers :ernae: and have always good flying

We might also put this in the v1.02 Update:

A 3D bomb crater that effectively renders a runway useless. DON'T try to land when you find this in your way...

Joost,

Simply outstanding work, the only problem is James (Mongoose) may not be able to see them as he only flys at night and those TOW airfileds will be taking a heavy pounding.:mixedsmi::mixedsmi:
Steve

I am sure the ACC will stand James the odd bag of carrots (to obscure the fact that the RAF were using AI radar, the rumour was put out that our nightfighter pilots were fed a diet of carrots as a source of Vitamin A).

New Buildings For ETO

We just received some beautiful new buildings from Steve Seybolt for ETO. Here they are mixed in with a few old ones, note the large barn and Church. There are also two new French houses in the pictures.

These will really help to dress upthe scenery.

I am sure you're able to edit in a red Very light or something, Steve :d:d
About those carrots - I do have a stack of C-ration crates modelled. It's no trouble to ask the quarter master to add a few carrots and place 'em near James' dispersal...

And those buildings indeed look fabulous, especially the barn and the church!
