SZD-30 Pirat released

Any chance of a Paint Kit empeck?

Not really necessary using the skillz I have attained due to tuts and such from this wonderful place.

I toyed just 30 minutes getting this done for my pleasure. Had to take it to New Market, soaring heaven in Virginia. Sweetness! And who needs brakes when you land, I do just like I do in real soaring, make a rather steep approach to keep airspeed up in case one hits a thermal and then line up on approach and deploy the spoilers for a very gentle sit down. Never applied the brakes, just rolled to a stop pretty quick.

Anyhow, this is yet another complete suprise, well worthy of being payware and just an absolute delight to fly and look at. Top shelf mate! :medals:

WIP, need to switch the wing registration code for the US and play some more with some colors.

Empeck - Thanks...this is a terrific sailplane! I just took her up, and even though her gauges may not work with CumulusX, she still took to those thermals and ridge lift like a champ (lift generated by CumulusX and Sim-probe).

You're right about the brakes...you don't really need them as she lands like a feather.:applause:

Paintkit is installed in FSX\SimHangar\SZD-30 Pirat\ folder :)

Awesome work Empeck! That cockpit is spectacular.

How did you do the textures? The instrument panel face looks like the real thing, and how did you get that spatter paint on the sides of the VC? Did you find a texture of that?

I've used few tiled textures here - noise on the panel (colour texture and normalmap), spatter paint on the sides is 256x256 tiled texture, it's cropped photo of real Pirat walls, I did this photo by myself. Check texture SZD30_int_detail1_T.dds in texture.common folder.

This are the material settings. All the magic is the detail map texture and the slider just below. There is nothing but ambient occlusion baked on the walls, and then this detail map is added.

Mike kindly sent me a link to DL it last night and all I can say is WOW!!!

This is one of the best freeware FSX projects ever, in fact I think it might be the best yet!!!! The detail and thought that has gone into it is similar to the Let-39. It puts to shame many of the recent flood of buggy, rushed and expensive payware we have discussed here.

If you never use the gliding side of FSX, NOW is the time to start!!!

A bit OT, but I guess any glider users will be monitoring this thread...

I have been trying to get WinchX from the developer's sight but am coming up against the same DL problems I had at Simviation. I think FTP sites being the common problem, in both IE and Firefox. They just stop after about 12kb!

I cannot find it (and his other glider utilities) anywhere else. Does anybody have any ideas of where they might be or how I can get the DL's from his site!

Me again, has anybody got the winch to work?

I have the window with all figures set 0 and winch at ready. I have tried everything I can think of to get the figures to change. I said yes to the gauge on install and have tried the mousewheel. Still just a dead window.

Mike "Some1" should reply this, but perhaps you need some C++ libraries from the MS ? The values are pre defined and they contain some basic settings.

:medals::ernae: Will transfer it to my FSX Repaints right now.

By the way, stick input is excellent and rudder turns are also excellent, in my opinion. :medals::applause:
The left variometer doesn't seem to work. I can rotate the outer ring.

After the 1st install, I selected the szd30 from the aircraft selections, then got a request to ok gauges and said yes. But when clicking on the launch button there was no launch.

I uninstalled, restarted, installed, but the same problem. I have vista. The dll is in the c/Program files/Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator X/simobjects/airplanes/SimHangar-SZD-30_Pirat/panel folder. In the same panel folder is another folder "szd30" containing an xml "manager_window" file and a "manager_window bmp" file. Would a manual install be better?

I'll test suggestions. It's not a big problem as I can use the tow plane and slew at this point.

I just got this Empeck and so far I must say I am very impressed, bravo! :applause:

I haven't been sim gliding for a while but logged many hours when I first got FSX and actually have some stick time in real gliders too. I really like the winch feature and it worked flawlessly for me at the first attempt.

I love your modelled gauges but wondered if you would consider bringing out a version that has Imperial airspeed, altitude and climb/sink gauges too. I am guilty of not spending enough time in aircraft with Metric gauges and find that I spend so much time trying to figure out how high and fast I am that I forget to fly the plane with dire results! :redf:

That would hardly be realistic. The SZD-30 is a polish plane an has metric instrumentation. See it as a 'feature' and 'added realism' - just like in the L-39. That metric stuff bit me in the behind in the L-39 already because I misjudged the vario. It's different and that makes it fun. Doesn't it?

Speaking about the vario, can somebody tell me what that left vario in the Pirat displays? It differs quite a bit most of the time from the right vario. I'm a bit puzzled about those double varios throwing different m/s at me...

Left vario shows me loosing altitude (~-1.8m/s) while the right one shows me gaining altitude (~+1.5m/s).

Left vario is showing loosing of energy. You are gaining height, but loosing speed. It will show positive values in thermals, or when you are towed. Right variometer is simple vertical speed.

Sorry, I won't make imperial gauges, it would require two sets of 3d gauges, or complicated coding, but I may add imperial tooltips. You know how I feel in almost every plane out there :engel016:

I guess I'll have to make a patch.

Here's a good explanation:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Total_energy_variometer#Total_Energy_Compensation

The Total energy vario should work with everything, including CumulusX and even Slew Mode ;) but there's confirmed problem with standard variometer and CumulusX, I think empeck will soon fix it.

About the winch and vario not working, do you run FSX as administrators? Maybe try to download and install this file: http://www.microsoft.com/DOWNLOADS/...34-3e03-4391-8a4d-074b9f2bc1bf&displaylang=en (shouldn't be needed, but just in case)

"About the winch and vario not working, do you run FSX as administrators?"
In my case, yes, and the install was as admin.

Thanks for the explanation. I'm not used to that total energy vario yet. Now I know what it is about. Thanks again.

Fully understood Empeck but I thought I would ask anyway. ;)

I guess I need to brush up my skills on Metric gauges. :icon_lol:
