The Just Flight Spit has appeared on the radar

In March 2006, Model Aircraft magazine published a "Spitfire Special" in which they cover the prototype in some detail including some valuable info I did not know and is not mentioned in M&S

They seem to be very certain of their facts and say that the finish was recorded as "grass-green"which led them to suspect that the paint was Yellow-green chromate primer. The alloy beneath was anodised and therefore, apparently, gave a "patchwork"look to the finish as the anodisation affected the shade of colour.

If you don't have the mag, try to get a copy. It has some excellent detail drawings of the various bits and bobs on the prototype along with some 1/48th plans.

They seem to have all the correct detail, like the extended oil radiator, early rudder balance guard and even the provision for a tail parachute.

Boy do I need to get out more...:engel016:

Thank you, I'll search for a copy.

Now go out and get a beer on me.:ernae:

We've just announced another couple of warbirds that might interest some of you :ernae:

Enjoy!

The Hurricane looks stunning - definite sale (along with the Spitfire) with just one caveat. I wondered what kind of system you'd recommend to run all that detail smoothly? I especially wouldn't want to be looking at a blank model while I wait for the textures to draw. My present system (quad core Phenom, 9800GT, 4Gb) runs the CH 190 with 2048 textures as smooth as cream, so I'd hope that would be beefy enough.

All three (Spitfire, Hurricane, ME109) produce very good FPS, even on less powerful machines. My work machine happily runs them at 50-60fps (Quad-core 2.33ghz, 512mb 9800GT, 4GB). You won't struggle using your spec.

Wow, they look incredible...definately on my to buy list :ernae:
Are they FSX native?

Joe

Bazzer,
Assuming the Spitfire is to the same quality as your Flight 1 P-51 Mustang it’s got to be a winner. The only problem with the P-51 is no one has produced any re-paints

Hi Ian,

Yes, it does appear odd though I know a few people over at Flight 1 forums have done some.
For whatever the reason, Flight 1 doesn't get much of a guernsey around here... probably because it is better known for its commercial airline stuff (?)

The new JF fighters have a few tricks up their sleeves for people to find. We've tried to make things more immersive this time around and have many bespoke animations and effects to keep you busy on your way to the "party".:engel016:

bazzar,

Will you model the lack of an airscrew control in the prototype and early Mk1 models?
Also, will you be modeling War Emergency Power with its associated increase of power?
and finally,:isadizzy: how is the DH106 Comet I see on your development studio page coming along?

Cheers,
Craig Tatley :mixedsmi:

Bazzar, this is looking like a very nice model. The overall shape looks very good indeed though there are a couple of small areas which don't look quite right to me. The prop blades look like they should taper in a bit more at the spinner and the trailing edge of the blades look a little too curved. Also the underside of the nose just in front of the wing leading edge looks a little odd too. I hope you don't think I'm being too picky here, it's a fine looking Spitfire otherwise and I'm very much looking forward to it.

On the Prototype colour question, I have just learned:

Jeffrey Quill is quoted in his recollections of the Spitfire that the Prototype was rolled out in "paint primer". The order of the day was for RAF frontline fighters to be finished in overall silver. Hence the Hurricane prototype being finished liked that. It is highly likely that the Spitfire would have been finished in silver had it not been for the interim blue coats being applied, for tests and public display. By the time she was ready for a service scheme, camouflage had appeared on RAF fighters and that is how she ended up.

The first blue colour was actually a Rolls Royce auto paint which was listed as blue/green and changed to the grey/blue Supermarine colour when the airframe was grounded for fitting of the machine guns

Just copped some flak from the C/O for trying to plug the power generator into the starter socket.
Hope this is better sir....:salute:

Jeffrey Quill's quote is good enought for me. Primer it is then!

Thanks for all your responses. Looking forward to the end product.

That's a lovely shot of your Spit,Barry, you must feel proud !

Dunno bout you but i still remember the beginning days of FS aircraft design. " I'm gonna do a Spitfire! I'm gonna do a Spitfire! And a Connie! " Yeah, right.....

If you wander off track you're going to miss the boat eventually.... that's my experience anyway... :mix-smi:

Envy you ! :d

Cheers,
Jan

Thanks very much Jan, coming from you that's a real compliment.

I have never bothered much about subjects. I think this game is like plastic modeling, the more examples of a subject, the more choice there is. Surely that is good for the market?

I understand that there are less than 20,000 "serious" modelers left in the UK now, yet the kit industry continues to bash out Spitfires, Hurricanes and all manner of machines and there are quite a number of magazines to support it all.

There is hope yet...;>)

Its a mighty fine looking model Bazza and the Mk1a has always been a favourite...

The propeller Spinner looks as though it could do with being a bit shorter or blunter though...been trying to find some decent photos I could use to illustrate ...best i could find is this one of QVI

I would have said yours is a bit long possibly.... but it just could be an illusion.
