The Ongoing Mystery Aircraft Thread Part Deux.

Well you got me here. This is, to all intents and purposes, a Besson MB-411.

But that tail is a new one on me, and my researches are getting me nowhere !

Here is what I know. A single MB-411 was delivered to the Royal Navy for evaluation. At some point they redesigned the tail section. It was returned to the French around 1941.

:guinness: Over to Fife-

Interesting history, that Besson - one of them went with the Surcouf to liberate the French island colony off Newfoundland. (St Pierre/Miquelon) Which, until today, I never knew existed !

Well, after that digression, here's an aircraft I posted on this site a long, long time ago. Then, it actually baffled everybody. I suspect it will last 5 minutes with our current band of aero sleuths, but it's an interesting machine anyway.

Ah, an oddball pusher. This is the Rich Twin 1-X-A(2)? of 1939.

This must be the original version with pantless nosewheel and smaller fins:

Pressing on with this twin boomer-

This looks like a version of the much altered Emsco B-4? Maybe even the Rocheville A?

Your tail matches this version:

I have it as the Emsco B-7, (X-869-N) which was indeed a modified B-4. Instead of the 85hp Cirrus, it has a 165hp Wright Whirlwind. Zooooom !!

Over to you, sir.. :icon29:

I came across this again the other day when looking for something to post. So we'll see who else spots it.....

Big hint: Late 1930's USA...

The top airfoil could function as a proper wing or rotate like an autogyro. Odd one for sure.

Sorry for the silly remark on the red Herring. I hoped it would be a hint to the name and that somebody would know.
Is this the Herrick Vertiplane (aka Convertaplane)?

It's the Bloch MB-160. Any idea about the three lower cockpit windows which appear to be on the port side only ???
