The Ongoing Mystery Aircraft Thread Part Deux.

I think John might be out of pocket.

Let's go open board for now and we can slot him back in when he returns.

It was a long time ago, Kevin ! This was a sort of replica built in Turkey in 2001 to recreate a Bleriot XI long-distance flight of 1914 (Istanbul-Damascus-Jerusalem-Cairo-Alexandria)

They were built by THK - the basic one called AK-01X, and the later two, which actually made the flight, AK-2000X. This one of those.

Is this that of which it was a replica?

The original has been preserved,Mike - here is with the various 'replicas' above..

I knew it was from the USA but just didn't have the energy to troll through Aerofiles. That's my excuse anyways.

Besides, I didn't have any luck with few clues and 2POB (was wrong). Must be the heat.:pop4:

Here is something easier to decipher...

I was looking for a map but the projection was all wrong. At least I found a picture - they flew from here... (Geography can be a friend)

G'day mate.

Not the Don. When they stopped looking at the model and built it - I'm pretty sure this is how the tail turned out....

Think they messed around with the tail quite a bit ! It's the Avro Athena.

They ended up with a tail about as ugly as you can get.....
