The Thorp has been uploaded!

Anyone seen one of these with a fake warbird paintjob?

I'd look really slick with a midget Mustang paintjob....

Smoothie was working on one during the testing a couple of weeks ago. It was looking really good then. I hope we see it on the final product!

Last night OleBoy noted an issue with the wing mapping that I am hoping to resolve without screwing up the great work done so far on repaints. He's been a big help with getting the plane up to speed for the painting crowd. :applause:

The update is ready once we iron out the issue on the wings. It's a geometry thing involoving the inner/outer panels. I'll get it - just takes time. :salute:

The mention of fallback came up so I revised the read-me I include with my repaints. That should make it easier for everyone, and less space taken up by un-needed files scattered throughout numerous paint schemes. Right now it's not an issue for me. Eventually it will be down the road. So, it's changed. Thanks for mentioning that Bjoern.

There are actually quite a few engines that have been put in them, including a few auto engines. We started out with an 0-290G (125hp) and now it uses an 0-320 (150hp). Currently it has a climb prop on it so we are actually a tad slow on cruise, and in fact on the real one because there are no fiberglass parts it's heavier and slower than a standard Thorp.

I'm pretty certain the original design was for the 0-290G, which was the engine found in the ground power units for fighter jets back in the '60s. There were many surplus engines around, and they were cheap.

So you can basically put anything in there you want and there is no standard in terms of configuration.

Thanks for mentioning that Bjoern.

No prob.

Thanks!!

You know something Naki, there is a tiger on the tail, and another sticker in the stripe. Also, there's another triangular sticker on the left side below the canopy. Is there any chance you know that those are, or where i can find them? I would really like to add them if at all possible. Could you look around for to see if you can find them? I'd sure appreciate it.

No luck I am afraid...I even went to the local library...found an old picture in a book there of EDF from the 70s..what I can tell you from that pic the Tiger picture on the fin was there but the little red sticker wasn't...that must of been put on later (it was probably a reference to our local EAA - which was called the AACA) I suspect the triangular sticker on the fuse maybe a reference to an ELT?

I appreciate your efforts Naki. You went above and beyond what most would. You didn't happen to get an image of that tiger did you? If it was better than what I did, I'd use it.

Either way, thank you for your time.

No unfortunately..the photo in the book was small and black and white and the Thorp was parked at an angle...the best picture I have is this one but I think you probably have it..

Maybe Peter can help yuou he has flown EDF in RL ..most likely in the older scheme..

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?53801-ThorP-T-18-Repaint-ZK-EDF

Unfortunately I can't get your new "EDF" paint scheme to show up in FSX..I've done what Falcon409 has said he did and double and triple checked the CFG entry but no go. Your orange "Tiger" scheme shows up fine

I changed the set up for textures based on input earlier in the thread. In the updated version the "stock" external paint textures are in a separate folder, and only the "common" textures are in the "texture" folder. Until I did that I had problems loading repaints. Now it works well for me. Hopefully the change will eliminate the problems some of you are having.

Regarding the update...

I have resolved the wing mapping issue. The only thing that appears to have been affected are the bump maps, and that will only require a minor tweak to fix. That means that the repaints done so far should work fine. My intent is that once I'm satisfied with the updated package it will go up here, and at the other main FS venues. Barring anything bizarre happening I think that will happen this weekend. I'm hoping to include the original paint (the one with the Green trim) in the new package. If the planets align just right I would also include the bare naked Thorp, but I won't promise that...:icon_lol:

That's strange. I don't understand why it's doesn't work for you. All you should have to do is create a folder called "texture.ZKEDF and drop my files inside. The fallback is already there, along with the thumbnail.

Remember though, your texture.cfg was there for mine as well but it didn't work. I had to
edit your cfg file before it worked for me.:salute:

If this is the case, I'm wondering what the heck I did that's wrong? I would think more people would would be having the same troubles, and be speaking up. I honestly do not know what the issue is because I am not having any trouble.

Regardless, who, what or why, this needs to be fixed so I (if actually needed) can upload an edited read-me, or a complete new file.

Here is my current aircraft.cfg. Disregard any that you don't have. Mine all work flawlessly.

Yep, of the ones I have right now, they all look like that but don't show up unless I edit the texture.cfg file:
for me, the third line must have 4 sets of parenthesis a backslash and "texture". . .nothing else. If I leave it as it comes with the liveries I only see the default livery.:salute:

Sounds like Robert may have to sort this out. I'm working with what he originally gave me, and it works fine. I wish I had a better answer for the trouble :kilroy:
