There's Nothing Like Fresh Mesh ...

Thanks for the update Milton. Have you got a wire frame texture for the misc .bmp? I'm looking for the cockpit levers and landing light textures.

Steve, that misc.bmp is for general purposes texturing for over a 100 small parts, especially the right-bottom quadrant.

If I were to individually map all those small parts, I would still be mapping. :)

Most dark parts are mapped there. These colors on the left handle lever knobs and switch covers, etc.

I had a go at hunting them down and got this close, before I started too affect the window seals. I can live with black.

LDR Development are pleased to announce that they have offered to take on the native FSX conversion of Milton's Mallard. :jump:

The source files were received on Wednesday evening and we already have the model in FSX with native FSX materials. Now we need to work on all the animations (they don't copy over) and make the VC a thing of beauty.

No ETA as it will take a while to do all the work.

And thank you Larry for taking the Mallard to FSX Native :applause: I do look forward to the possibilities. :jump:

If she had a camper´s interior, she could be used to fly around the globe... wing fold brings out the BBQ&chairs&beer cooler :-D and the tail hook moores her in the middle of some lake.

The camper conversion would only work if Milton also changed the pilots too having long hair and a beard you could hide a ferret in.

I have been concentrating on the externals the past couple of days, and almost have the wings and engines panel lines, rivets and details done. The fuselage, wheel bays, and tail textures are going through final tweaks. The interior cabin is done, and the cockpit area is awaiting a going over once I have finished the exterior paint shop layered masters which will allow people too paint up some schemes.

Heh heh... any chance LDR would convert the Navion for FS 9? :untroubled:

Steve -- your Mallard looks fabulous! I can't wait until the Final version is done!

Alan :biggrin-new:

I'm sorry but that just isn't going to happen. There are too many polys in the model and the exporter would puke before it completed the job. There is a limit to the total number of polys allowed in a FS9 model and the Navion has waaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy more than that figure. There are ways of exporting in chunks and then re-combining the resulting bits but I've never done it and it's a lot of extra work.

Milton I was playing with the undersides and I spotted the tyre was still poking through slightly, this is on the model with the shelves removed.
Sorry for the slow reporting on this but I have been playing up on top recently.

Been reading up on this plane just a bit. The initial cost for the radial powered version of the Mallard was around $115,000 per copy, but the PT-6 Turboprop version went for a cool $4 million. There were only 3 countries that flew the Mallard in the "civil" role, Australia, Canada and the US. Egypt was the only country to use the Mallard in a Military role.

Was just Googling the Mallard in anticipation of when this fine model will be finished, and looks like there was at least one used in the civil role in Japan:

Look for Nitto Aviation photo here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grumman_G-73_Mallard (although it shows a U.S. registry number???)

and a Mallard accident description that occurred in Japan in 1964 with a Japanese registration number: http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19640218-1

Personally, I'll be flying the Mallard in Alaska/Yukon Territory/B.C. when she's finished. I've fallen in love with flying the float planes and amphibians in real time weather under the worst conditions I can find!

Wish I had the skills to contribute something to this project but all I can say is "thank you" to those who are making the Mallard happen!

Bill

Oh my dear. I just love the "kit" approach here with each installment just making it better and better. That paint scheme looks the bee's knees ..

Here is an updated Mallard model replacement folder.

Also change these 2 statements in the aircraft.cfg Geometry section:

spoiler_limit=0.001000

spoiler_handle_available=1

Changes: 1) improved OH switch bases 2) ability to show/hide yokes 3) preparatory changes for top of nacelles to add exhaust headers 4) fix nose tire show thru
