TrackerIR

Hi All, Whilst there is a current thread on Trackir running, I have question. When you are looking at the tracking screen and you have the 3 green dots,is there any preffered orientation for them or do they just need to be in the centre?

If you're using the TrackIR Pro 4, then I think they replicate the position of the actual 3 IR heads. Therefore I believe you need to position the TrackIR screen (on the monitor top) and your head mounted unit, so that the green dots are more or less central/vertical on the TrackIR screen. Sort of setting a central datum for TrackIR.

My experience shows the best orientation is to adjust the dots in a slight diagonal arrangement in the dot pattern so that either a pitch or a yaw motion will not cause the dots to coincide but stay separated.

Yes Sandbagger, Trackir4pro is the one I'm using with the Trackclip on my headset. I have recently bought it especially for Phase 3 when it arrives.

TrackIR

Well having seen some of the P3 videos and how awesome TrackIR makes the experience, I just ordered my own TrackIR w/ headset clip last night. It shipped this morning and should be here tomorrow.

I read a bunch of reviews on it first, because it is a bit pricey, however I couldn't find a single review that didn't absolutely gush about how incredible the equipment is. They all said it was a breeze to install, amazingly useful in air to air comat situations for keeping track of your opponents and that the immersion factor will simply blow you away.

I plan to get the most out of P3 when it ships because I just love WWI dogfighting sims. No radar, no electronic gunsights, no jet power. Just a prop, a gun and a lot of courage and skill needed to outfly your opponent. It looks like P3 AI opponents will have me challenged for some time too, judging by the videos.

Anyways, my rig is Duo Core 2 3.16ghz cpu, 2 GB DDR2 800 ram (corsaire extreme), 680i Nvidia motherboard chipset, 280 GTX 1GB video card and a 22" flat panel monitor. If my flying skills don't look good, at least the enemy aircraft shooting me out of the sky will. :)

Yes it would be interesting to know if Free track works with OFF...

If all goes according to plan I'm going to pick up a Track IR4 at the RC Simulations show on Saturday week in Bristol. It's been on my "Want/Need" list for a year or more so with P3 beckoning, probably I can't put it off any longer. Would you say that rudder pedals were equally as "necessary" for OFF? I use the twisty stick method at the moment.

My TrackIR is scheduled to arrive on Friday. I did ground transport, since I would not really have the time to mess with it anyway prior to the weekend.

Am really looking forward to the experience. Will make some trials with P2 (though I don't really like P2 because of the buggy campaign just kills immersion), but it should be good for calibrating for P3, IF AND WHEN that ever comes out.

Sorry guys...you're dragging this out beyond endurance--particularly when you ask for pre-orders in February, stating that the sim was nearing completion then, followed by an endless procession of teaser reports (which are great) and preview movies. I am with Hellshade--I really like WWI flight simulators and don't really care for others, primarily because the aircraft go too fast for real visual enjoyment.

Take pity on us and release P3!

I use Thrustmaster Pro-Throttle and Fighter Stick with CH rudder pedals. I find rudder pedals responsive and they take the work load from hand controls, as they are 'natural' to use. The CH pedals are good, although they are a bit close together (used for driving sims I guess). My previous Thrustmaster pedals were much more robust and had a better foot spread.

He is right you heartless beasts :costumes:.
Torturing us for months now :isadizzy:.
But anyway..i am so sure it is gonna worth it in the end :d:applause::ernae:.

I used to have CH rudder pedal way back before USB came out, they are much better than the twisting action employed by joysticks these days. Does anyone have any inside knowledge on the Saitek pedals? I already have the Saitek X52 Pro joystick/throttle.

Even if Phase3 came out tomorrow, I know I'll still have a considerable wait as I've only been on the waiting list for a liitle over a couple of months

All this hanging about for the launch of the REAL THING and seeing the occasional videos and mesmerized by the flying adventures by the lads who've managed to install it safely, well, its all a bit like stripteaze only with veteran aeroplanes instead.
(Erm, not that I've been to a stripteaze show myself you understand, only using that as an example because of what I've seen on films....cough. shuffle..)

That's an important issue, Sandbagger, having size twelve boots, could cause me to go for the pedal format which allows for extra big plates of meat. Maybe the Saitek pedals then.......

Definately, because your only other choice the C & H's are way too close together. Even some with more . .erm. . Normal Hooves, have commented so :ernae:

Don't you believe him, that Petejh, he goes into those dodgy clubs wearing an overcoat and dark glasses wiv 'is 'ands in his pockets wiv no bottoms to them

For as long as we've had to wait, they should have solved all the distribution issues way ahead of time; however, recent update posts seem to indicate that they are just now engaging with the problem.

They should have gone with a download service and have been done with it, rather than physical shipment. I know there were threads on this that debated it to death, but I would be a lot simpler to distribute in this way.

The main issue would appear to be the sheer size of the d/load, 8gbs I understand. That would be O.K for some with very fast b/band connections but not for every body. Perhaps it could be an option for some.

It took me a month to download Phase 2 with dial up. I couldn't even comprehend trying it with Phase 3. We're talking what, 5 or 6 months? The missus almost had a coniption fit over me tying up the phone on the first one!
