Trying my hand at the Alph P-40...

Wild Bill and Caz got me all hopped up with there great looking repaints so I thought I'd give it a try. Here's a sneak peak - just finished the Banshee! Seems the Paintkit fuselage textures don't fit the "stretched" P-40L so I'm working on that too.

Looks promising, Duckie - go ahead! :applause:

I'm still amazed about the awesome paint kit the P-40 comes with. No mapping issues - at least for the short-tailed versions.
Only thing I did to improve the "P-40E Weathering" layer:
For it originally contained the panel lines&rivets, dirt&stains and the peeled-off paint marks, I duplicated this layer and seperated those specific items to obtain better blending varieties.

Unfortunately not, mate.
I've sent the tweaked model file to David of IRIS, for he offered to make it available on the IRIS site. That was a week ago, just before the site had gone bust...
I additionally asked for his permission to include the model into my upcoming repaint, but got no answer yet.

Hey WH ~

I got to tinkering with the paintkit to adapt it to the "stretch" fuselage and decided to just rework the whole thing. So I'm re-doing the paint kit for the long fuselage P-40 -- New -panel lines, rivets and shading based on some onelines I have. The first paint I'll crank out will be of the 85th FS / 80th FG shown above. It will be well worn and combat tested! Then on to some more colorful stretch versions from the CBI.

Probably gonna be a few more days til I get the paint kit the way I want it though, but it's coming.
 
Dang Duckie, that's sweet! The rivets look especially good. When you get the layered kit finished, would you mind making it available?:wiggle:

It's such a lovely day today, I'm going out in a few, wash my car, then get a bike ride in. I just got in from morning chores and fixing some vittles for the chaps. Decided to check in here for a short spell.

Hey Cazzie, thanks very much. Glad you like it. I'd be more than happy to make it available as long as I can get permission, and if not we can probably work something out. :kilroy:

10-4 on the lovely day. Gorgious day too here in the deep south. But, alas, I'm stuck inside until lunch when I'll grab a quick sack lunch and take it to the park.

Duckie i paint for IRIS and i can see no issue with you uploading a paintkit, most IRIS paintkits i give out to people who want them are usually my masters with my 'refinements' on if you do upload and David spots it i'll just tell him i gave you the ok :salute:

But:
(Sorry for playing the rivet-counter once more)

I think the vent hole panel in front of the exhaust bank needs to be shifted a bit upwards (one pixel or two...) :

This pic shows a P-40N at Napier Field, Alabama, in November 1943 of Army pilot class 43-K.
Note the third row of the holes: It seems right about the centerline-level of the exhaust tubes.
