VRS SuperBug Heads Up!

I haven't engaged any enemy C-172's yet!:costumes: I wonder, do you get a lock on tone? Guess it's back to the manual!

You’ll get a tone from the Sidewinder missile if the seeker locks onto a target, but you have to have Sidewinder selected to get that. And if the missile isn’t tracking a heat source you’ll just get that annoying “growl” tone. You can “lock up” a target with the radar (Single Target Track mode), with any AA weapon selected, but does not produce any tone.

Amazing how many systems work. I love that the FPAS (Flight Performance Advisory System) works. Sort of like a super trip gonculator! Good stuff!

I am having a problem. When I downloaded it and told it to go to FS9 it made it's own directory and never put the various items in the correct directories. so, I manually, copied the aircraft to the aircraft folder and effects to effects, etc.

However when I try to run the ACM I get an error that says, "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

I can find it in FS9 and load the plane. I see the external model but no VC.

You probably screwed it up when you manually installed it. There is a fair bit of anti-piracy as well as severe coding which is VERY specific about where things are.

Make sure when you reinstall it, you select the correct directory. Barring that, ask on the support forum.

By default the aircraft.cfg is set to run the no VC model and panel. I manually changed the aircraft.cfg to load the VC model and panel, and that worked. But then I learned that you’re supposed to do all that stuff from the ACM. I only mention that because you could do that to get the VC model, at least until you get the ACM running. The ACM seems to be rather heavily “intertwined” with this plane, and there’s a lot of stuff you can do from there. Odd that the installer did that. I was worried it would do that to me because my “Program Files” folder is actually called “Program Files (x86)”, probably something to do with this being Windows XP 64 Bit. Many installers “assume” the folder is called “Program Files” and copy accordingly. This one installed correctly, though.

Which directory should it go to? It couldn't find FS9, gave me a blank line. I have FS9 on a separate drive from the OS.

Hey Loganpass (or any admin), can you add a link to the original post? I sent this thread to a friend for him to check it out, and i just realized there is no mention of a website.

Just in case, here's the link to the F-18 by Vertical Reality Simulations:

What you want is for the installer to point to [Insert FS9 Root Path here]\Aircraft.

That's it, no aircraft name or anything else. We've had a few issues with the installer not being able to parse the FS9 installation directory from the registry on some installations. It shouldn't matter what drive it's on, but alas, something is buggy there.

Also, making changes manually to the aircraft files is generally a very bad idea. The ACM uses a ton of Regex to set everything up for you, so if something goes wrong in there, you may have to load the backups within the ACM.

Anyway, please feel free to stop by the madness at www.vrsimulations.com if you have any problems, and we'll try to get you sorted.

Thanks for the great comments everyone!

OK, now I AM STARTING TO GET IRRITATED. First the installer can't find FS9. Then when I manually move the files over, I still can't get it to work right.

NOW, I went to the forums (as advised) and registered. After receiving my email and activating the link, I tried to sign in. The goddamn site didn't recognize the password, it has just confirmed to me. After three or four tries it NOW says I have to reinput the damn scrambled code.

All I want is for the plane to fly. The manuals make it seem wonderful. I bought it to help you guys out, even though I don't fly FS9 anymore. Well, I have it and I want it to work. Please either tell me what I am doing wrong or get your site and installer to work.

If I have f*&ked up, tell me so. I can handle it.

Ok, the email clearly says what the password for the support forum is. It is NOT the same as the public forum (and it says that too).

If you send an email to support@vrsimulations.com I will give you the password.

Now you have not installed the aircraft in the correct directory
, and you cant just pick up and move the aircraft folder. It won't work. I'm sorry you're irritated, but the fact is it requires paying a little attention to what we say to do.

UNINSTALL the software.
Download the initial installer
Install in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft
IF that is where flight simulator's root aircraft directory is on your machine.

If it's not, then you'll need to find it and type the path into the installer.

Jon, I spent most of the afternoon reading all of your eight pdf tutorials and checklists. I did pay attention. However, I will admit missing the part about not moving the files.

Still, I just reinstalled the aircraft. I STILL got a blank "install to folder" with the second installation. I told it to install to FS9/aircraft. It tried to install to FS9/aircraft/New Folder. I backspaced over the New folder part. It did it's thing and when I tried to run the ACM, I got the same, "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." error.

Now, is that me or the installer?

Hey All,

I don't normally get involved in this kind of stuff but...

...Install in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft

John I think you need to know the path and type it in the blank space. You apparently cannot point at it. You might be able to just edit the C in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft to D or F or what ever the path is though depending on where you installed FS9.

I'm thinking about getting this plane - but want to know if it is faster than the C/D models.

Just a thought.

Thanks Ed. The folders are in the proper place. After I corrected the installer's path and reinstalled, it put them where FS-9 expects them to be. However, the ACM is still giving me the error.

The manuals are amazing. It looks like this aircraft just may change the way a lot of MSFS aircraft are built. According to the tutorials this aircraft does things others only imagined.

Too bad, I can't get it to work.

John,

Just got back to my computer this morning and I'm going to work with you right now. Just give me a bit to put out some other fires and I'll be back with you via email.

Thanks Jon! I appreciate your efforts.

Jon's a good man Jmig. Just give him the opportunity to help you fix it. When you are up and running, I promise you that it will be worth every effort. You haven't experienced a fighter aircraft anything like this.

I'll second the good words about VRS support. I had the same issue on the download and Varmint worked with me and got it sorted out fairly quickly.

Don't worry, jmig, they'll get you up and running in short order !

Thanks for the encouragement Cody and Odie. I am still waiting for Jon to get back with me. He emailed me earlier to day.

Too late for me, however. The company starts coming in at 6:30 this evening and I am expected to be there and entertain them. :costumes: Then our children and grandson come in, so NO flight simulation for me for a while. :banghead:

I am doomed to never fly again! BUT, there is compensation. Yes there is, I get to eat a lot and drink a lot of :ernae:

Merry Christmas all

John, I'm about 30 minutes away from a new upload, but tomorrow, go ahead and uninstall (yes, again;), and download the new ESD. When it goes to install, point it to your FS9 ROOT directory. On your system this will be E:\Flight Simulator 9.

All should be cake from there, and good luck.

I got it Jon. I saw on the VRS site where people had used the Reg Fixer. I tried that and reinstalled. It found the folder and the ACM worked.

Now, I am going through the set up procedure. Just hope I finish before the company comes. :costumes:
