Vultee XP-54 - Texture Artist Needed

There is some stuff missing from the FSX civil variant.

Tried adding the textures from the Texture.common folder to the .civil folder but that didn't remedy.

Interesting; looks okay here but seems not to be finding the common.civil folder for you.

I'll look at it more closely.

EDIT: Ensure your texture.cfg in the civil folder reads like this, and that the common folder has the textures in it:

[fltsim]

fallback.1=..\..\Vultee_XP-54_FSX_00\texture.common-civil
fallback.2=..\..\Vultee_XP-54_FSX_00\texture.common
fallback.3=..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\texture
fallback.4=..\..\..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\texture

EDIT2: Seems like a texture.cfg issue because it is not finding the common folder either. So, I will attach the one I have here.

That worked. Thanks Milton.

Really like the engine sounds. Great stuff!

I haven't found any issues yet in FSX, although I still have more work to do to get my buttons my new JS working. It's great getting to fly this rare bird in FSX. Thanks to the team who made it happen. :)

Stunning!!! That gear retraction animation is beautiful! Flight dynamics,this bird has character.:biggrin-new:
I can not find a thing wrong with the 54 but there is one thing I am assuming Milton you are planning for the final release and that is VC interactions(lights,mixture,prop,ect with mouse).Other than that this is a winner!:encouragement:

Kevin, glad that got you squared away. Engine sounds by Nigel Richards with some mods by James "Magoo" Banks.

Great! Thanks for testing this Sundog.

Hi,
What a beautiful creation this is !
The 2D and VC are fantastic...thank you to all who worked on her.

Andy.

Exterior textures by Mike Kelley. Mike also did our Dash 7 textures you may recall. He does awesome work.

The panels are borrowed from the XP-72/47J we did a couple years ago. Those VC textures are by Nigel Richards.

Joel, Flight model by me, Tom Falley, and with some James "Magoo" Banks tweaks.

VC mouse tooltips and animations work fine here in FS9 and FSXA. What sim are you using?

VC Clickspots were apparently de-activated when the eyepoint statement was changed putting it behind a seat poly.

Substitute this statement in the aircraft.cfg:

[Views]
eyepoint= 7.6, 0, 2.56

This moves the eyepoint slightly forward.

The gear retraction is great but so is the pilot access - have you tried <shift><e><1>?
:encouragement::encouragement::encouragement:

John,

The entry/exit animation is a bit crude compared to the elaborate system that was designed in (thanks to the military changing the role to high altitude and and required pressurization specs).

That did the trick! All is well!:untroubled:

I made a few preliminary flights in the military model, and the big Vultee's handling and flight model characteristics appear to be consistent with the airplane's
development history. Ground handling is superb and cockpit visibility is very good both on the ground and in the air. Max airspeed near sea level is spot on at
around 290 m.p.h. I'll need to do more tests at 28K to check speed at that altitude.

With the nose down, the XP-54's clean aerodynamics allows speed to pick up quickly even with power off. Stability and control in a dive is excellent. On approach,
good control at full flaps with +8.8 degrees elevator trim at 120 m.p.h., over the fence at 110, and touch down on the main gear at a hair at around 98 m.p.h.
More refined numbers will no doubt be developed and provided with the final package. Another likely addition to the final package would be a "vc01_L.bmp" from
the XP-47/72 texture files to back light the instruments.

As other members have said, the complicated animations work very well and are mesmerizing to watch.

It would be interesting to see what the XP-54 would have been capable of if completed to the original low/medium altitude specification at a lower gross weight.

Many thanks to Milton and crew for developing this FS9 model that represents a fascinating example of 1940's era U.S. aviation engineering.
