Wilco Tiltrotor's out

So then I assume there will be 'many' patches/upgrades to the aircraft? If so, and they are as well addressed as the first few, this has been money well spent.:ernae:
 
Yep, already at work on the next upgrade - trying to cross-link those rotors to each engine like the real thing...(each engine can turn both rotors at the same time) ...not the easiest thing to do in MSFS especially 9.

We're also working out an instrument package for those who are experiencing framrate probs and some functionality...stand by...:mixedsmi:
 
Since you mentioned the topic of instrumentation...Any chance of getting some lighting (individually switchable) to the MFD/PFD's? Right now they really have none. Just the VC light illumination....and I do a lot of night flying, so floodlighting in the VC isnt the best thing for outside visibility. Just a suggestion/wishlist item, but hopefully it can be done without becoming a total pain in the butt. Thanks again, Bazzar. :ernae:
 
Instrument lighting will be there once we have organised things for better frames. Glass cockpit stuff is not the best for FS but it has to be cracked for future generations. It's the future of GA in the real world.:mixedsmi:

Yeah...no stranger to that, Barry. I'm actually in the process of finishing up my 'real-world' Cirrus SR-20 checkout; Very much enjoy the intuitive interface and easy information readouts of the Avidyne. As for the Tiltrotor screens, I'm not seeing terribly bad frames, but if that is on the list for an improvement, I welcome it...and good to hear about the lighting, also. Thanks!
 
I haven't seen this addressed here or in the FSX forum, but the display in the center of the panel that has info in it so small it would fit on a matchbook cover. . .anyone know what that is and if it will be corrected?
 
G'day Falcon, it's fuel and engine performance. Fuel information is acquired by hitting the small button on the gauge panel. I agree it is a little small. We'll include it in the next round. It's where we think the gauge should be from prototype pics we have but it doesn't translate to well to the FS view. If it gets bigger it'll have to go somewhere else.

Not really, if the text just filled the gauge screen it would be fine, right now it only fills a quarter of the that area in the upper left.
 
Hi Falcon,

That engine/fuel gauge is ok in FSX but is too small in the FS9 version. The bitmap/gauge are sized wrongly. Not hard to fix - Do this:

1. Open the Wilco FSTR directory in FS9/aircraft
2. Open the panel directory in Wilco FSTR
3. Open "PANEL.CFG"
5. Scroll down to Vcockpit05
6. Under Vcockpit05 comment out the gauge (add "//" in front of the gauge details) ie:
//gauge00=WP_PFD!WP_Engine_readout, 127,360,300,256

7. Above it add a new line with new positioning (copy & paste this):

gauge00=WP_PFD!WP_Engine_readout, 120,344,532,485
//gauge00=WP_PFD!WP_Engine_readout, 127,360,300,256

8. Save the file.
Try her out!

Also one other tweak I noticed:
Some people have issues with trim and hover , which are COG related. Check this:

1. Open the Wilco FSTR directory in FS9/aircraft
2. Open the .AIRCRAFT.cfg
3. Scroll down to "Weight & balance"
4. Does it read "empty_weight_CG_position = -2, 0, 0" ?
5. If so, change "-2," to "0,"
6. Save
7. Take her for a spin and see if there's any difference to trim/hover stability.

These aren't official fixes; just a couple of things I found whilst tinkering :)

I couldnt quit flying that thing last night... I am going to do a jump from LA to Phoenix sometime when I have a brake from work. This thing is awesome.....


I have wanted one for ages.. Finally have one. The 'shininess' of it in FSX really gives it a good 'new' look. Well done model...

I love it but am definitely looking forward to a patch adding the night lighting and a few other fixes...but it is a blast to fly; Especially rooftop to rooftop in Flytampa's Kai Tak scenery :ernae: ( if my sim didn't suck so bad i would take and post some screens lol)
 
bazzar, If may please make a Fs9 req could you please work the USCG paint into the Fs9 version. I know i had port reverse wise. But since updateing my tilt the USCG paint know is like see thru. Thank you.:applause:

Last night I got the Wilco Tiltrotor for FS9 (v13), and in researching for paints and mods I came across this thead and thought I would add a few comments and a few questions. :kilroy:

Apparently there have been several updates since the package was first released. Unfortunately on my old machine, I'm encounting some framerate issues. Externally, the aircraft looks great. Internally with the 2D or VC, I get a slideshow - even with simple terrain and weather. :salute:

I've converted several of the texture files to DXT3 format, and that's helped. But I suspect that the gauges or their textures are causing the framerate impacts. So at this point I'm looking for any suggestions or additional panel or gauge tweaks that might make it more enjoyable to fly. :isadizzy:

Also, I noted that there was some discussion about making the Coast Guard repaint available for FS9. Was that ever done? Is that available somewhere? It would also be great to see some FS9 military repaints as well. :jump:

I remember watching this one as it was getting developed. It caught my attention because the design is both plane and helicopter. Those massive props seemed to be looking for something to tear into when on the ground. Having dual roles of flight design must have been challenging and well thought through in prototypes. And now we see it in the skies. An amazing addition to the fleet.

I would like to purchase this one. I'd forgot about it entirely. Considering the reply previous to yours Warhorse, it's been a while.

I'm curious of the flight simulator model now. Does this thing fly as it should, or as close too that to justify my purchase. Last I heard there were still issues with it not being able to take off vertical. Now that I'm reading it stutters when in inside view, I'm still very unsure if I'll get it. Money is almost known as precious paper.
 
Oleboy, it actually flies quite well - despite the stutters. I've had no problem with vertical take-offs or landings, I just wish it was a little smoother and not so process intensive for FS9.

I brought my AS V-22 Osprey out of the hangar just for some side-by-side comparisons. Both use VTOL rcb-gauges for flight stability. The Tiltrotor uses the prop pitch for thrust, whereas the Osprey uses the throttle like most helos.

I like the panel and gauges better with the Tiltrotor - more eye candy, functionality and realism. The Tiltrotor models come with full interiors, but as mentioned in this thread there are less animations and textures than expected.

The Osprey has lots of freeware textures. The ones I've found so far for the Tiltrotor are FSX and need conversion. And there are no military ones for the Tiltrotor, either.

The Tiltrotor has some additional gauge features that makes the flight transition a little easier than with the Osprey. In horizontal flight they seem to handle much the same.

Keep in mind that they price may seem steep, but it covers both FS9 and FSX versions. Although I do not have FSX (yet), soesn't stop me for downloading and saving that version for when I do upgrade to FSX. :mixedsmi:

I bought it the day it was released; And I have downloaded and installed all the new versions as they became available. My verdict is sit on your money unless your PC can handle high-load VC's.....it is fun to fly, but i no longer have it installed due to poor performance on my computer. I fly exclusively from the VC, so that is the deciding factor for me. Otherwise, cool plane.
 
I've been flying it most of the day. My machine can barely handle it, and I fly from the VC a lot.

Spent some time downloading and converting a bunch of textures from FSX. Still no luck in finding any Coast Guard texture.

I did figure out how to reconfigure the prop pitch to my joystick throttle through FSUIPC. Much easier to handle, now.
