World Flight

Furthered the cause to Benghazi, Libya (HLLB). As a side note, Benghazi was the original intended destination of the Arabco C-82 in the movie "Flight of the Phoenix."

Arrived in Tel Aviv by way of Port Said, Egypt just after midnight local time. Was in the pattern for a spell as ATC vectored me in behind two commercial jetliners (Ben Gurion Intl-LLBG).

The weather has been optimal so far. My journey gets interesting from this point on though. Lots of restricted airspace to negotiate on my way to the old country...

After an interesting flight plan of skirting Lebanon, following the Turkey border along Syria and staying clear of Iraq & Iran, I made it to Yerevan, Armenia (UDYZ). A robust tailwind helped push the Goose along. In real life, I hope to someday take the whole family on a trip there.

Note: The Duenna shows it as UGEE.

Long trek over the Caspian Sea to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan (UTAA). UTAA opened in 1994 and is the only "official" International airport in the country. Weather still has been optimal so far. Going to have to get creative again with Afghanistan looming.

Decided to fly to Kerki in Eastern Turkmenistan (UT51) which is close to the Afghan border. I will save the mountain trek into China for daylight hours. Of note: Kerki sits on the bank of the Qaraqum Canal which is the largest irrigation and supply canal in the world.

Duenna shows UT51 as TM0D.

Hey Moses,

Very interesting routing and some fine shots, I look forward to checking out how well you and the "Goose" are doing.

That's a great plane innit?

Best regards,

Thanks salt_air! Yup, the Goose is one of the best defaults. Hope to make it over to China this weekend.

Skirted Afghanistan & Pakistan on my way into desolate far Western China. Landed at Hotan (ZWTN). Long flight but the amazing scenery through the mountains kept me alert. Also, the Tarim Pendi range seemed to go on forever as evidenced in the air to air photo.

Here was my route through the mountains. Had the 'ol Goose gasping a little from time to time:

Hey All,

Moses is that Google map a kml file? I'm gonna have to figure out how to do that if it is. Good job on the journey.

Made it to Diwopu (ZWWW). ATC denied my approach due to IFR conditions. Seeing no one in the pattern, I put down anyways. Didn't have any other options for alternates out this way. Hope they don't revoke my passport and ground me.

OUCH

Nice knowing you Mose03 see you in about 15 years if you get out of Prison that soon.

Maybe we should contact your local congressman and see if he can lobby to get you out early. :icon_lol:

After explaining I had an emergency (wink, wink), they let me go on my way. I decided to hop over the border into Mongolia to stop at the famous Bulagtai Resort (ZMBR).

Still in Mongolia, I moved along to Choibalsan (ZMCD). Good sized airport for such an out of the way place.

Have a great New Year!

Hey All,

Enjoy New Year's in Russia Moses! Don't get into any vodka drinking contests - I saw how that turns out in an Indiana Jones movie. :costumes:

I find follow these flights interesting, however when ever I try to plan a world flight I get bored with planning the route. Hope you complete you world trip.

Some where here in this mess of threads Willy explained that syndrome. The cure is to take off and head a direction intent on flying in the end you will have traveled around the world. Don't bother plannig the trip around the world.

No Work....All Play!!

Dave's right!

"shut up and fly",,,,,forgot where I heard it, but it sure makes it easy and really that's all ya want to do anyway......

Best plan is to have a good time, looks like Moses is doing just that.

Thanks for sharing this great journey with us,,,,,,won't be long now I'm starting to see the "West Coast" on your maps.

Hat's off brotha!!

Best to All for the New Year,:ernae:
