World Flight

Thanks for the encouragement. :ernae: Like Dave & salt_air said, just have a good time and see where the wind blows you.

I took Ed's advice and left Russia before anything happened. Made it to Wakkani, Japan (RJCW) after a long flight over parts of Russia, China and the Sea of Japan. Had a tough approach with a nasty crosswind that kept jumping from side to side, bumping me all over the place. Was feeling a bit green after landing.

I know those FSX water shots can get old but the ocean just looks so nice.

Nearly tripped the 5hr/800 mile (798.4) barrier on the flight to Yelizovo (UHPP). Followed the island chain right on up. Strong headwind most of the way but still fortunate on the weather overall.

Next stop Adak...Alaska. Yeehaw!:running:

A little over 3 months later, I'm back in the USA.:unitedstates: Made it to Adak Island (PADK) after again fighting a headwind most of the way.

I really pushed the little Goose, going over 900 miles in just under 6 hours. Now to deal with the the Aleutians in January...gulp.

Looking good Mose! I found that island chain to be of immense help when I went through there in the Twin Beech a few months ago. Just glad I got out of the Aleutians before winter set in. Although that kind of flying can be most fun and a learning experience.

Thanks Willy!

Made it safely to Dutch Harbor (PADU). Water was calm enough to put down in the seaplane basin. Looking forward to a crab leg feast tonight!

That's the nice thing about multi-surface a/c like the Goose .. you can always scud-run and do a temp. landing in a bay to dodge the worst weather

Didn't get the Goose wet on the flight to Middleton Island (PAMD). I felt like a conquering hero. The people manning the weather station don't get much traffic through here and were glad to have visitors. The island also served as a DEW (Distant Early Warning) site in the late 1950's. Much of the infrastructure is still in place from that time.

Note: Hit the 100 hour mark on the leg.

Take off to Canada eh?

Set the Goose down at Port Hardy, British Columbia (CYZT) this evening. Not much to report other than a drafty cabin and a lot of frigid air. Could have possibly made it to Vancouver without the headwind.

Note: Discovered a little quirk about FSX this flight. When I zoomed in to the pilot figure, he blinked! Never noticed that before.

Blinky the pilot:

Feet dry in the lower 48. Bellingham, Washington (KBLI) is the place. Enjoyed the view of downtown Vancouver at night as I passed by.

Nice hop down to Walla Walla Municipal (KALW). Was treated to some nice scenery in and around the Lake Wenatchee area.

A short flight through big sky country down to Boise (KBOI). Pretty soon I'm going to run out of nice scenery.

Note: Thumbs up to JM for his latest Duenna!

Yep on the Thumbs up.

It is nice how it tracks the flight path and not just the straight line between two points. :ernae:

Hopped the border down to the East shore of the Great Salt Lake in Utah. Followed Route 84 for the most part. This was one of those "$100 hamburger" flights. Fort Ranch (2UT3) will serve you a full pound beef patty with all the trimmings.

Note: Duenna shows 2UT3 as UT29.

Utah faded into the distance as I made my way across to Grand Junction, Colorado (KGJT). Skirted the northern stretches of the Moab desert.

The little Goose is still going strong.

Note: Duenna shows departure airport as UT29 instead of 2UT3.

And so goes the world flight with a hop back to Frisco, Texas (DDJ). :wiggle: Satisfying to finish what I started.

Had originally planned on stopping in Albuquerque or maybe Dalhart in the Texas panhandle but was feeling a little homesick and decided to go all the way from Grand Junction. Besides, we have a big race looming and I wanted to wrap up the adventure.

Final Stats

Total flight time: 116:36:30
Total distance: 19739.4
144 days to complete. (Started on Sept 27, 2008)

Misc:
-Yes, I did crash once. About 30 min after I departed 2UT3 the first time, I left to go help around the house and had not adjusted my otto for enough height. When I checked on the Goose it had hit a 8500' ridge just east of Ogden, Utah. No worries, was just a scratch. ;)

Moses signing off from DDJ...

Thanks fellas. :ernae:

Dave- Nothing really to write home about on the FSX rewards. Just a lot of seaplane hours racked up.
