Shrike F-86F

Here is a mod that moved the Aera 660 to the instrument panel and can be assigned a button press via FSUIPC or Spad to toggle it on and off.

GE, how do you fly the conversion with nothing clickable in the cockpit?

I flew it too when it first came out as it was the only F-86 for MSFS at that time, but as soon as Shrike released their version I bought it. The title of this Post says Shrike F-86 so there shouldn't be too much confusion what aircraft these mods are for. Do yourself a favor and just delete the conversion out of your Community folder and install the Shrike F-86 in it's place. It's a great airplane for the cost, it's just a shame Milviz/Blackbird gave this to Shrike who flat out said it's going to be cheaper with less bells and whistles, and they were true to their word. I wish Blackbird wouldn't have done that and gave the F-86 the developement priority they gave their beautifully functional Corsair and sold it for the price they charged for the Corsair.

The beauty of a release is in the finer details and system functionality and modeling. I've been adding to that with several mods that are making the Shrike F-86 a more enjoyable airplane, at least for me. One big one was adding a fully functional autopilot system, which is really nice on long cross-country flights. I have a few more coming soon!
Only thing clickable in cockpit was the landing gear, nothing else.

This mod made the hydraulic pressure gauge read the electric alternate flight control hydraulic pump pressure when the pump is runnning. It runs anytime there is electrical power on the primary bus which was modeled, but the pressure gauge was not wired to read the pressure. Once the normal system becomes pressurized during engine start you need to reset the auto transfer system to turn off the alternate pump via the reset switch and then the yellow warning light will go out and the system pressure will begin to drop.

There are 52 liveries to choose from over at flightsim.to, including 5 other camera mods, cockpit textures etc:

The free version yes, how about the payware SHRIKE does it have THE HUFF livery? The freeware version has some issues, chocks don't show and
a lot of wing light key bindings are needed to open/close canopy to name a few.

Here is a F86F mod that I did this morning. Anyone who has spawned into a non-designated MS2024 parking spot, would not get these two items to show visually or function correctly. The question what did this mod do?

I attached the detailed PDF of this mod for those who are interested in the answer! If you would like to do this mod here are my recommendations.

I use Claude for all my edits and mods. I share the Shrike folder with Claude so it can read and write to any of the files in that folder. I use a microphone to dictate to Claude so I don't have to type responses. With the detailed PDF you can drop this into Claude and ask it to do the modification. Claude always backs up your files as a safety precaution.

This has been a huge game changer for this type of of modification work. It is amazing to see AI at work and results it produces.

I also use Claude in flight simming. With me it is trying to get five different software packages working together with MSFS24. I use Moza Cockpit for the AY210 yoke base and the AB6 base for the F-15/F-18 style Trustmaster stick. Both of these are Force Feedback units. The Moza units have to have a profile written for each aircraft (or type).

Then the motion platform is run by a software package called SimHub. SimHub and Moza Cockpit overlap with the Haptics (shaking and vibrations of the airplane in different situations) so Claude helps me write the two profiles that simulate, as closely as possible the real airplane, and make sure only one is doing an action that affects the airplane.

I also use Claude to help with scripting Axis & Ohs control bindings. No one seems to use the same functions to move switches and such, so I have to figure out which of the dozen possibilities works for a particular airplane. Claude has been a godsend with this.

I even had Claude write me a batch file to start each software package in the proper order. So one click and everything starts.

I agree John AI has revolutionized flight sim programing. It really incredible how smart it is, it's totally insane!

Here is a little modification I made to the interior.xml file. I was reading the preflight procedures in the F-86F manual and one of the items on it is to test the red warning light in the gear handle. This is done by pressing the landing gear horn cutout button which turns on the light.

The button is buried below the canopy open/close switch. I also wrote a lua script to control the button press with a button on one of my external controllers.

One of my favorite mods was getting the landing gear doors to open when you pull the emergeny gear extension handle. I think it looks really cool with them open and if you see any F-86 sitting on the ground more than likely they will be open. That was rather disappointing to me when I first loaded up the airplane on the ground, but with a few hours of time with Claude AI we have them animated.

What would be really cool if you could open up some panels and maybe even pull the whole tail assembly off on it's own dolly to expose a detailed J-47!

Ed, ... for that you could need the sources ... :(

PS:
Perhaps hiding completly the fuselage externe and modelizing a new one with the tail assembly off may be possible: I willstudy that.

Today this modification was completed after several hours of trial and error, and the results are a fully functional inboard drop tank system. These inboard tanks hold 120 gallons compared to the 200 gallon capacity of the outboard drop tanks. The inboard system is controlled using the fuel selector switch.

A big thank you goes out to Didier for giving me ideas on how to get this done!

Will this work in 2020?

Priller, it should. The F-86 is a 2020 model; it hasn't been updated for 2024.

Hollister56, once you have all these mods together, you should package them as a Community folder add-on and share them that way here and/or on fs.to!

Bravo Ed (y)

My indications were still quite limited, but I see that it was enough: "another string to your bow" as they say in France.
Is this what we talked about yesterday?

1788681770652.png

and the real plane to see where the "cut" should be do:

The texure comp for the fuselage can be improve with more shiny effect.

Didier that is a little too shiny. LOL

You are very right, a person would need the original source files and code from Shrike to do major modifications to the F-86F. I believe this was modeled in 3Dmax, but not 100 percent sure.

I think that Shrike should now make the Sabre an open source airplane for people to do cool modifications.

Denny I've made so many different modifications to this jet I wouldn't really know where to start.

Here is some great information on setting up default fuel loads when you spawn on the apron.

Another solution is to create a new fuselage using the "retopo" technique

This technique consists of using the original model as a base and drawing on these 3D polygons a second 3D image whose proximity to the original is customizable. Generally, it can be located within a few millimeters, which allows for a new shape that is very close to the original but respects copyright.
I exposed this technique using a 3D model by Porco Rosso, which was a very high poly, and from this base I created a much lighter version (number of polygons divided by 5).
