NEW! FS2004 Pander S.4 Panderjager

9:13 AM Ohio time. I am awake, but just barely. Have the trash out to be picked up, the dogs out for their morning business, the bird uncovered and chirping his little blue head off (he is the happiest little Parakeet I have ever been around). Need to brush my hair, comb my teeth, wipe my eyes and rub my butt....or comb my hair, brush my teeth, rub my eyes and wipe my butt....which ever is easiest this early in the day....then I will be ready for another day filled with Honey Do chores and plane tweaking.

10:19 AM Ohio Time.

I have done all that I can to the config file to get this plane straightened out. She handles much better on the ground and in the air.

With the fuel capacity and locations moved around, the plane no longer nose dives into everything. Taxiing can be achieved at 1500 RPM and roughly 15 pounds/.6 ATA boost. At this power setting, the plane will taxi along at about 7 knots. Takes a bit more throttle to get the plane rolling, but once rolling 1500 RPM and 15 pounds/.6 ATA will keep her rolling along just right.

Tail lifts off the ground at around 55/60 knots. Take offs are much nicer, flight characteristics are much cleaner and easier to trim out. Landings are a breeze.

The plane is still too slow perhaps. I upped the max RPM to 2500 and upped the Max horsepower to 430 and lowered the critical altitude from 19800 to 8000 (to be honest, I have no idea what critical altitude does in relation to flight speeds and such) and the best airspeed I can get with a full load of fuel is 166 knots. Haven't tried her with a lighter fuel load....but will. Historic specs on this plane show a max speed of 194 knots and a cruise speed of 162 knots. I think with something far less than max fuel she may hit those speeds.

I added nav lights, adjusted the VC lights, added differential braking when rudder is applied along with brakes.

I reduced the gear retraction and extension times by 3 seconds. Instead of 10 and 8, the retraction and extension times are now 7 and 5 seconds. Still slowish, but not OH SO FREAKING SLOW.

The Pander is now a much more enjoyable plane.

Nope...she's slow. I fired her up with just 80 gallons of fuel and reduced the crews' weight to 110 pounds each...they aren't BBWs by any means...and still the max speed was 166 knots, cruise was around 130. Basically the plane is 30 knots too slow at cruise and max. And I have no clue how to adjust that.

With this very light load (just about 800 pounds over the empty weight) the plane lifted off the ground at around 82 knots with no flaps.

thank you for the changes you made. The plane is now more comfortable to fly in my opinion. The exact configuration is tricky. For an example, at http://www.fliegerweb.com/geschichte/flugzeuge/lexikon.php?show=lexikon-239 the fuel capacity is 1,090 liter (approximately 240 gallons at all), but trying this I couldn't get the maximum range of 3,240 km. I had the same speed problems too and couldn't reach the specified cruise and maximum speeds using nearly real configurations, that's why I decided to publish the aircraft with my "wrong" configuration. It's possible to change the max_design_mp up to 72.0, this will give you a better maximum speed but also a unrealistic manifold pressure of 2.3 ata. But your configuration is better at all and I hope we'll get the maximum speed sometime.

You added navlights to the aircraft file. Navlights are built-in in the 3D-model and normaly there shouldn't be a need for additional navlights. Using your aicraft file the navlights are doubled now on my computer. The story at http://www.aviacrash.nl/paginas/panderjager.htm makes me shure that there were not landing lights, otherwise Geyssendorfer had seen the ambulance car.

A readme-file for installation is included. The air speed indicator will show the indicated airspeed in knots. The altimeter will show the altitude in feets. The vertical speed indicator will show the vertical airspeed in hundred feets per minute (don't forget to adjust the indicator). The fuel gauge will show the fuel quantity in gallons. (Position 1 - Center, 2- Main Left, 3- Main Right, 4 and 5 - not in use.)
Please notice that you have to change both the model and gauge textures!

Thank you oh so much for this plane, and all the fine planes you have graced up with. It is a shame that you are hanging up the modeling...but I fully understand. Some people just don't get how intense modeling an aircraft is and they expect nothing short of perfection. I have not modeled a plane...but have spent some time trying to do so...and it is HARD. Then add in the complexities of the flight dynamics, gauges, panels, sounds, textures....and it becomes mind boggling. Your talent will be dearly missed in this hobby...but the fruits of your labor will continue to be enjoyed for years to come.

Nav lights...should have looked a bit more closely before I added them via the config file...actually, I didn't even look...I saw that there were none in the aircraft config and assumed that there were none. Ooops!

This is one tought plane to get right. I am sure that given a few weeks time, someone will come up with the ultimate combination of settings and tweaks to get this plane as close to the real deal as possible. I took her as far as I could take her...now I hand her off to those who actually know what they are doing.

I am sure that there will be plenty of folks who grab the Americanized version. I have gotten the hang of flying with metric gauges....I just do a hasty conversion of the metric to American in my head and get an idea that I am about to crash AGAIN! LOL!

Again, Ralf, thanks for the planes you have blessed us with, we will miss your talents. Go, enjoy your retirement, enjoy flying without the fear of some talentless ungrateful knuckle head spoiling it for you.

OBIO , I've searched through my panel files and I reckon the Pierino Primavesi JU-52 2D panel bmp is pretty close.

OBIO, I do like the new cfg, but I did notice the double lights, so I went back to Ralf's originals.

She is a delight to fly and very controllable.

I have taken a look at the air file...nothing there that wasn't in accord with the information in the config file. And FS2004 only uses the air file for when something is not spelled out in the config file.

I have been doing some more tweaking and testing...and I think I have this nut cracked. I had a small, minute, very teeny tiny flash of genious...didn't last long at all...but it lasted long enough for me to quite possibly have the answer. A memory from some CFS2 discussions on air speed came to the front on my head, thumped on my back of my eye lids and made itself known. I went into a CFS2 aircraft config and copied out the Flight Tuning section and added that to the flight tuning section of the Pander. This addition allowed me to reduce the parasitic drag and induced drag scalars...which basically reduced the friction and air resistance on the fuselage of the plane...made it more aerodynamic. Lest resistance equals more speed. That coupled with a slight increase in the propellers' thrust-scalar setting have resulted in a top speed of 191 KIAS...with a light payload...80 gallons of fuel and three 110 pound hottie crew members. I need to do some more tweaking to get the COG really dialed in, do some more flight testing to get the speed really dialed in...haven't checked to see how close the cruise speed is to the referenced 162 knots...but the top speed is no longer limited to 160 knots!!! That is a step in the right direction.

If I keep this up, you guys are going to start thinking that I actually know what I am doing...trust me...pure dumb luck in action.

This is it ladies and gentlemen. This is the last update I will do to the config file....it's as close to perfect as I can get it. The Pander now has a max speed of 180 KIAS fully loaded, max speed of 192 KIAS with minimal fuel (80 gallons) and the crew, cruising speed of right around 163 KIAS. I don't think I can do any better than this. Pure luck, a little skill (very little) and some vague memories from a CFS2 post were what it took to get the plane to this level of performance. I am attaching a txt file that is actually a zip file. Save the file you your computer, rename it to pander.zip, unzip it and drop the aircraft.cfg and the Pander.air files into your Pander S.4 folder. Fire it up and enjoy!

Now I can concentrate on what I was originally hired to do...create a sound pack for this amazing aircraft.

I have deleted all the previous attachments to prevent confusion since I attached 3 or 4 different config files. The last attachment contains the most tweaked config file and air file. If that one doesn't work, let me know and I can e-mail it to you. I want to give it a few days to allow some folks to try the tweaked files before uploading it to the download libraries.

I just finished two days of community activity (United Way Campaign and Agency Allocations) and been wanting to download this aircraft. It looks beautiful and I am late getting onboard. I will spend some time putting the pieces together and come back for the FM components.

Did you rename the attachment from pander.zip.txt to pander.zip? It won't unzip until the .txt is removed from the end.

I want to give the crew here a week or so to test the tweaks I have done before uploading them to the library here and Flightsim.com. I want some feedback on how well others find the new flight dynamics to work in case there are some additional tweaks that may need done or if someone with more skills in flight dynamics chimes in with some tweaks.

If you have trouble unzipping the file, after renaming it, send me a PM with your e-mail addy and I will send them to you.

Thank you OBIO for your efforts at making this gem fly again. First you get to do stuff with the Super Electra, now this. :applause:
BTW, I would have messed with the drag figures in the flight dynamics section in the airfile for the missing 30kts but what you did works great too.
I just find it so cool that everyone is coming together for this. It's almost intoxicating to watch. :ernae:
