NEW! FS2004 Pander S.4 Panderjager

You need to go to Folder Options, click the View tab, and uncheck the option to hide extensions of known file types. Then you can change the .zip.txt to simply .zip and it will work.

I know we can upload files...but I want to wait until these tweaks have been tested by a dozen or so people on a dozen or so different systems to see if they work as well for others as they do for me. And, with Milton Shupe getting into the picture, there may just be some additional improvements coming. No point uploading files and then have to upload updates for them a few days later. Test twice, upload once....to paraphrase a rather wise piece of verbage.

OHHHH...I see... did not know we could upload zips as attachments. That will come in handy.

True OBIO, I uploaded my latest prop for this as a zip, that way I am sure the Alpha will be there. I am assuming that was the .air file you uploaded, but it did not take even after renaming it. Good thing I did a BU. :icon_lol: Try doing it as a .zip.

Caz

Here's the aircraft config and air file in a standard zip folder. I did not do any changes to the air file...simply renamed it.

OBIO

Hi Obio,
thank you for the changes you made. The plane is now more comfortable to fly in my opinion. The exact configuration is tricky. For an example, at http://www.fliegerweb.com/geschichte/flugzeuge/lexikon.php?show=lexikon-239 the fuel capacity is 1,090 liter (approximately 240 gallons at all), but trying this I couldn't get the maximum range of 3,240 km. I had the same speed problems too and couldn't reach the specified cruise and maximum speeds using nearly real configurations, that's why I decided to publish the aircraft with my "wrong" configuration. It's possible to change the max_design_mp up to 72.0, this will give you a better maximum speed but also a unrealistic manifold pressure of 2.3 ata. But your configuration is better at all and I hope we'll get the maximum speed sometime.

You added navlights to the aircraft file. Navlights are built-in in the 3D-model and normaly there shouldn't be a need for additional navlights. Using your aicraft file the navlights are doubled now on my computer. The story at http://www.aviacrash.nl/paginas/panderjager.htm makes me shure that there were not landing lights, otherwise Geyssendorfer had seen the ambulance car.

I made a model update for those who wants to fly with american units of measure. You can download it at http://www.derbruchpilot.net/downloads/panderjager model update.zip
A readme-file for installation is included. The air speed indicator will show the indicated airspeed in knots. The altimeter will show the altitude in feets. The vertical speed indicator will show the vertical airspeed in hundred feets per minute (don't forget to adjust the indicator). The fuel gauge will show the fuel quantity in gallons. (Position 1 - Center, 2- Main Left, 3- Main Right, 4 and 5 - not in use.)
Please notice that you have to change both the model and gauge textures!

Regards R.

by the way: is exactly one of the reasons because I decided to quit my flightsim activities.

Thanks first of all for all of your great contributions to this hobby. Especially for doing a plane like this which is certainly not the first on that would come to mind when someone asks for airplanes missing from the sim.

SOH once again shows that the community as a whole does appreciate all your work and that together as a group can iron out what ever little discrepancies may be left or perceived in a release.

Ignorant comments such as the one you refer to are a pain to be sure but most often come from folks that have never taken a model from the drawing board to the skies and in turn opened themselves up to "critical reviewers"

I have read the entire comment made by this person and don't think he actually meant it be be as mean as it may come across. Quite often I have found that it's merely a poor choice of words....but it still is a hard pill to swallow after putting all the hours in and doing the best you can.

Maybe instead of full retirement you can just take a long vacation and then come back with recharged batteries. If not please know that 99.9% of us truly appreciate your work.

Hi,

Great improvements in it's flying ability with your cfg, Obio, so 'Thanks' for all your work on it:ernae:
Is it possible to fit a radio?

I don't understand how the panel cfg works in this case, but I am going to try to add the HP42 Autopilot/Radio in the cfg and see what happens.

Andy.

edit; that didn't work- I heard the radio signal but couldn't see the thing to change the station! The A/P in the Pander is all that's needed I know, but without any sort of radio how could they really hope to go anywhere to land safely?

I am working on a new panel set up...creating a 2D panel (not the prettiest in the world by far), pop-ups for Radio, GPS, Engine Controls, and a CD Player (I like listening to music while I fly). It's one of a million billion trillion zillion projects on my work bench...so don't hold your breath too long.

1. It's a little bit difficult. All gauges are included in the VC, that's why you will not find any cab- or gauge-files. To add, remove or change a gauge you have to change the model in gmax. It's possible, but not easy.
2. You can use a radio in a popup-window. For the HP42-radio, for an example, copy the files Radio.bmp and HP42.cab to the folder panel.VC. Open the panel.cfg in this folder an add the following lines:

[Window Titles]
Window00=Main Panel
Window01=Radio Panel

[Window01]
file=Radio.bmp
Background_color=8,8,8
size_mm=275,330
window_size_ratio=1.00
position=0
visible=0
ident=20
window_size= 0.250, 0.350
window_pos= 0.000, 0.630

gauge00=HP42!AP, 0,220,275,110
gauge01=HP42!ADF_RADIO, 0,0,275,110
gauge02=HP42!comm_radio, 0,110,275,110

Close and save the panel.cfg. It should work now.

3. There's a hidden autopilot. You can switch it on /of with the shortkey you selected (usualy "Z" in my opinion) , turn on the Heading-Hold-Mode with the shortkey ("Ctrl+Z") and change the direction using gauge number 9 (see cockpit-layout.doc)

Hi,

Thanks for that info Ralf...I failed to put the bmp in the folder as well and got the Windows wrong:isadizzy: I'll try to find an interesting radio to put there and an ADI as well. I thought the Bank and Turn was one until I read the Manual :icon_lol:

The autopilot instrumentation is different from the usual but that makes it more interesting.

It's a great airplane and Thank you.

Andy.

I got all the component changes together .. very nice work Ralf, and thank OBIO for your tweaks. :applause:

When I get a plane with no 2D at all, I have a standard set of popups I use to fly it in 2D mode:

Code:
[Window Titles]
Window00=Blank
Window01=Com/Nav
Window02=GPS

[Window00]
Background_color=0,0,0 //invisible
size_mm= 2,2 //small
position= 7 //bottom-center
visible=0
ident=MAIN_PANEL

[Window01]
Background_color=128,128,128 //Only black shows up invisible, so this eliminates the need for a background bitmap.
size_mm= 359,313
window_size=0.45 //Adjust this number to fit your needs.
position= 0
visible=0
ident=RADIO_STACK_PANEL
gauge00=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio AP, 1, 2, 176
gauge01=bendix_king_radio!Bendix-King Radio Nav-Comm 1, 180, 2, 176
gauge02=bendix_king_radio!Bendix-King Radio Nav-Comm 2, 180, 67, 176
gauge03=bendix_king_radio!Bendix-King Radio Xpndr, 180, 133, 176
gauge04=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio DME, 180, 187, 176
gauge05=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio ADF, 180, 232, 176
gauge06=Extra-300!Pitch-Trim, 126, 104, 35
gauge07=Lear_45!Nav GPS Switch, 133, 59, 20
gauge08=Cessna208!Horizontal-Indicator, 1, 80, 113
gauge09=Mooney_Bravo!OMI Lights, 38, 56, 50
gauge10=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio Audio, 180, 278, 176
gauge11=Beech_Baron!RMI,32,195,113,113

[Window02]
size_mm=456,378
window_size=0.45
position=2
BACKGROUND_COLOR=0,0,0
VISIBLE=0
ident=GPS_PANEL
gauge00=fs9gps!gps_500,0,0

Just be sure to apply the needed changes to the autopilot and radio sections of the aicraft.cfg so that the parts will work.

Tom
Thanks for the 2D panel entries: this has now enabled Active Camera in the vc which wasn't working in this plane up until now - an added bonus!
Frog

Hi,

Tom, that is great..you made it too easy really:applause: !

As an aside, on this now elderly computer, over KSAE in the vc I get about 5-7 fps in FS9 with everything to the right. This tended to put me off a vc only airplane, but flying the Aeropostale route from Senegal towards South America in this Pander the fps is 20 in the vc! Of course there's not much autogen in the sea, which probably helps :icon_lol:.
But now there's radios and everything and in the immortal words of Del Boy 'the World is my Lobster.'

Thank you Tom, for this latest addition to this lovely airplane...and it's not just the thought of the crew alongside that make me say this, but a thorough reading of dry technical manuals and the wonderful 'Handbook Of Rivets' I got off e-bay last week which will increase my appreciation even more.

Andy.

CD Player?????? What a MAN!!!!! I won't hold my breath, but I am sure looking forward to it.:ernae::ernae::applause:

The 2D panel has been cleaned up and looks better...still not a work of art, but it ain't hurtful on the eyes either. Now I can begin adding the pop up windows. Could have the new panel setup ready for uploading tomorrow...but only if you kids behave yourselves!

Tim

As mentioned earlier in this thread, I "fixed" the doors so that they do not look like they have been left unpainted. Going to attach them here in a zip. Once I have the 2D panel set up all done, I will upload a comprehensive tweak package for the Pander that will contain the tweaked flight dynamics (still can't believe how lucky I got with it), the 2D panel and this texture fix.
