New B-29 Fleet

So, does this mean I need to download the package again?

No, you're good to go. If you don't want the 29 on the fuselage, just delete fuselage_3_t.bmp from your texture folder, replacing with the same file from your texture.clean folder. Piece of cake.

Three cheers for the three mebers who went above and beyond the call of duty to make the B-29 and her bases such an improvement.

Ghostrider - B-29

Sopwith - All the new textures

Maskrider - Guam Island and all here new airfields

Way to go guys!

Thanks Jagd!

It was a privilege working with SC and MR.

Ok, thanks.

How's everyone doing with the B-29? Any issues?

Only a couple minor ones. That I seem to be missing wep_d4y2_60kg_gp, and whenever I use short range bombs, this happens:

Hi P51FAN,

those are part of the weapon pack created by Thicko for his D4Y Judy series. What I do not understand is why there should be Japanese bombs included in the B-29 payloads.....

Cheers!

The Jap bombs seem an odd choice. But on another note, technically, you should be able to load any type of ordnance up to the max bomb load for the bird without the tail dropping. That pic indicates that the CG may be a little too far aft or the contact points for the main gear is too far forward of the CG in the aircraft.cfg.

In this sim, the weight of bomb loads is typically skewed to the CG -- in flight or on the ground -- and if your CG is behind the main gear in a tricycle config like the B-29, the tail can drop on the ground when loading a heavy payload.

s?
Ok, thanks.

P51Fan,

I think you're referring to the Max Bombs Light payload, (the only one which uses that weapon) I used the Japanese 60K Bomb because it was the closes t I could find to a 100lb bomb. Perhaps someone can point me to a better choice.

Here's me on the tarmac with that payload: No problems - I've hauled that payload 100 times in testing and never had that issue. Hmmm.... Does that happen before you start your engines? That would rule out your trim. I'm at a loss to explain that. I would think like Bearcat said it's a CG issue, but I would think everyone would have it then. Anyone got any ideas?

Maybe I didn't clarify enough, as these were two separate problems. The reason why the 60 kg bomb came up is I keep getting a message that CFS2 can't find it in the library. Now that I know where to find it, I can fix that.

As for the plane tilting backward, from what I can tell, it only happens when I use Short Range Max Bombs Heavy. Also, it tilts back even if the engines are off.

And for what it's worth, I can take off with it.

Gotcha - That was an "old" payload I inherited with the original DP I started from. I just left it in "as is", assuming it was okay, and probably didn't test it. Will have to check it out later. I am just about to leave town for the weekend for a friend's wedding. Probably a matter of hanging some of the bombs on more forward hardpoints to move the CG forward of the main gear.

An issue I am having since uploading is I'm running out of gas again halfway back to Guam! After all of that testing, and having success, something went belly up. I suspect it has something to do with using both Airwrench and AirEd on the .air and .cfg files, as Bearcat and Rami have alluded to previously. Sometimes when you save, weird things happen. Exhaust effects go away. Fuel consumption rates change. Things you definitely never messed with.

Any thoughts from the guru gallery?

Ghostrider, if he reads this thread, i hope Dbolt won't mind me uploading this attachment here instead of posting a link to the SOH Library. This pack includes a U.S. 100 lb bomb option.

Hey Ghostrider,
I was finally able to load your update to Gnoopey's B-29 tonight.

That's an impressive job you did on the panel and its views. Nice...and she flies sweet too. I'm really impressed with how good she trims. With increased speed the nose will pitch up and this is where good trim comes in handy. Some other air files have an overly aggressive pitch trim, but yours is very smooth. Kudos on the flying characteristics.

This has been a very good week for CFS2 enhancements!

Thanks for getting this one out,

Dave

Thanks so much, Dave! Glad you're enjoying her! I just never thought the B-29 had been done justice in CFS2. And it was such a groundbreaking and important aircraft.
This project has given me renewed appreciation for all of the work that has been done by others - it's a ton of work, but hearing that others are enjoying and appreciating it makes it all worthwhile. I'm just glad to be able to contribute on some small level.

Okay, I've got the DP squared a way with US 100 pounders, and moved the 2000 lb GPs forward in the short range max bombs heavy payload, so no more low riders. Reworking .cfg and .air a little to regain the accurate range capabilities. Update soon!

Thanks, Bearcat, got 'em, v1.1 .dp, .cfg, and .air files soon.
